“Good hotel but eat elsewhere”
Reviewed 17 November 2013 via mobile

Warm welcome with good reception staff. Excellent rooms spotlessly clean. Restaurant food very much below a good standard. Very rushed service do not expect a leisurely dinner. If given the choice have dinner in town if you want good food well cooked.

Thank you for your review. I am pleased that in the main you enjoyed your stay apart from your second nights dinner. I apologise for the service being rushed and have mentioned this to the waiter concerned. In response to your comments regarding dinner I would confirm that the fondant potatoes are cooked in chicken stock and butter with the top browned and bottom stays white. We do not use tinned peas and the second vegetable was roast parsnips.
We do hope to see you in the future.

Stayed this Saturday for just one night as a little family getaway. First impressions were good with a fairly welcoming reception. We were on the second floor in a 'family room'. We were a little disappointed with our room as it was pretty small with a double and single bed next to it. We brought our own travel cot and had to have it squashed in at the end of our bed almost up against the room door. It meant we had to squeeze past it whenever we went into the bathroom. Perhaps the single bed would have been taken out if we had wanted to use their own cot. We didn't think it warranted mentioning as we were only there for 1 night. The room was nice, slightly dated but clean (little bit dusty on top of headboard etc) but the bed was very hard and we both found it uncomfortable. It was quite noisy with our window open during the night but this obviously is not the hotel's fault. The bathroom was modern and spotless. The swimming pool was lovely and the jacuzzi was hot and very relaxing but it stung our eyes a little bit when the bubbles went on. The food was ok, decent portions but slightly tasteless. My partners pork was quite fatty and i had a piece of cling film on my plate from the cold meat salad i had, however staff were very helpful if a little bit hasty in asking if we would like the next course. Overall it was great for 1 night but i don't think i would stay here for any longer.

Firstly we are sorry that you were slightly disappointed with your visit.

We do have many large family rooms that can easily take a travel cot but unfortunately, as our receptionist explained at the time of your booking we don't usually take one night stays at the weekend but just had the one room available which you agreed to take as it was for one night only.

We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of the hotel and have spoken to our housekeeper regarding the oversight by the chambermaid. We received many compliments regarding the food that evening but can only apologise for your meat being fatty. Your waiter would have been more than happy to have replaced your meal if you had mentioned it at the time.

Customer feedback is very important to us so thank you for your comments. Please be assured that we always endeavour to meet our customer's expectations and constantly try to improve so only hope that you would consider visiting us again at some time in the future.

Myself and family enjoyed spending the weekend of my 80th birthday at Hotel Collingwood. The food was excellent ,generous portions with plenty of choice cooked to perfection.I had invited 42 friends and family for Sunday lunch the service was first class, staff were very attentive and friendly. The entertainment on Friday night was excellent enjoyed by all ages in my family. The hotel is very clean warm and welcoming. Good value for money.

We stayed with a friend for 4 nights 14th - 18th October. Rooms were very clean. The food was excellent with large portions and a good choice. Entertainment every evening was very good. The staff were all very helpful. Loved the pool and other facilities available. Pleased there was ample car parking without having to pay extra. Would highly recommend this hotel and will certainly stay again.

Exceptionally clean room. Room was comfortable and spacious. Great food with menu changing each day. The portions were very generous. Good location, near shops and sea. Staff are polite and attentive. This is the best hotel I have been to in a long time. In one direction it is a little hilly but I have a walking disability and still managed fine. I shall definitely go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a double or twin room do ask for the largest they have. Some are smaller than the room w...
