First time visit to the Collingwood in a party of 20 in town for a Conference at BIC. OK we managed to book a Superior Room but as a 3* establishment it was well up to scratch and room size. OK no fridge and biscuits to have with the Tea/Coffee available in the room cost "extra" but the room was a good size had a couple of Arm Chairs and a good TV and Bathroom with an excellent shower.and we could see the sea over the top of the West Cliff. While we did not get time to use the pool the Breakfasts, evening meals and Sunday lunch were of very good quality well cooked and served by cheerful staff in a nice tidy and clean restaurant. The car park was amply big enough which is more than can perhaps be said for for some other more expensive establishments.

MY on gripe was that having asked on our Thursday evening arrival for a blown ceiling Halogen lamp to be replaced and another flickering one to be looked at NOTHING was done during our stay albeit over a long weekend otherwise this would have been a 5* review. Very happy to back should the need arise in the future.

We stayed here for 3 nights while we went to see Miranda Hart live at the BIC. I chose this hotel as it was close to the BIC and had a swimming pool - our two top requirements for this weekend!

We were impressed by the frontage of the hotel when we drove up and the fact that it is literally a few minutes walk downhill to the BIC. There is a car park at the back which also has an underground section. Access into the hotel is easy from the car park without having to go round to the front with all of your bags.

The hotel (bedrooms and public areas) were spotlessly clean and very welcoming. There is a bar with entertainment in the evenings which was a nice treat. There is also a quiet lounge if you want to read or be out of the main bar for a bit. There is a games room, snooker room, gym, sauna, steam room, pool and Jacuzzi. The pool opens until 9pm in the evening and was a welcome place to wind down in the evenings. We had it to ourselves most of the time.

The breakfast was fine (choice of continental or full English) and service was quick. Drinks at the bar were averagely priced.

Only a couple of minor negative points affected our stay but these were mentioned to the receptionist and noted/sorted out:

1) Our bed was so soft and you could feel every spring of the mattress. Every move that the other person made, made the bed feel like a waterbed. We didn't sleep well for the first two nights and my husband slept on the floor for part of the second night. We asked for a board to be put on the bed which made it a bit better but I think next time we will get a family room with two beds in case we need another bed next time! We are used to a king and the bed was a small double so it would be great if the mattresses could be looked at in the rooms - maybe time for a change?

2) The chlorine in the Jacuzzi was far too strong. It was fine before you started the jets but as soon as we did this, we both felt a strong burning sensation in our throats and lungs and coughed for the rest of the night. My husband was nearly sick in the pool area due to the coughing. We mentioned it to the receptionist who said that they would look at it in their meeting but almost tried to pass the blame onto us for spending too long in there! It happened the very first time we sat in it so I don't think so. Exercise caution in the Jacuzzi is my advice. The pool was fine though (if a little chilly!)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would like to return later in the year when we return to Bournemouth. We will ask for a different room where the bed might be different, hopefully. This aside, the hotel was excellent and we were overjoyed with the facilities and entertainment. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the car park and are generally quieter.

A Monday to Friday break to brush away the winter blues this place was absolutely perfect. This has been our third visit at this time of year and this hotel never rests on its laurels. They are always busy keeping up the standards. The hotel staff are all very friendly hardworking and nothing is too much trouble from the management downwards. The whole ambience is very welcoming and the rooms are all immaculate. Breakfast and evening dinner are first class. Lots of choice and all cooked to perfection. Will definately visit again.

Room Tip: Dont be afraid to ask the management for help to choose a room to suit you.

Stayed middle of February and chose this hotel as it is dog friendly and we had our two Golden Retrievers with us. We requested, and were allocated, a room at the rear as the rooms on the front overlook a busy road. Our room was nicely furnished and very quiet. Breakfast was lovely (yes the plates are not the largest but the food is fine) and the dining room was first class. Dogs are not allowed in any public areas but we knew this and it was not a problem. The nearby dog friendly pub "the Goat and Tricycle" is a 5 minute stroll, serves good food and also has lots of real ales. You don't have to have a dog to enjoy it! Also a nearby park was great for those early morning pre breakfast walks. This is the third dog friendly hotel we have tried in Bournemouth and is by far the nicest. We will return..

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter

We did this as a late deal on Booking.com and it was certainly a good choice. We had a double room with ensuite,it was compact but had everything you needed. The room overlooked a flat roof to the rear of the building but I didn't come to look out of a window for any length of time!
We were booked in B&B,but there was a menu for evening dinner which we could have had for £20 each for 3 courses. We wanted to have a wander round the town and decide whether to eat out or back at hotel. It was nice to stroll down to the beach&pier which took us about 10-15 minutes ambling. We wandered around town getting our bearings then back to hotel for relax and tea.We brought back some biscuits to have with our tea&coffee as these were not supplied(not a problem but usually hotels do put them on hospitality tray)We decided to try out a restaurant in town which was very nice Funchal by night(Portugese)On our return to hotel we had a lovely comfortable nights sleep we did leave window open a little as the room was warm.Breakfast was served in a lovely restaurant nicely laid out.You helped youself to cereal&fruit juice and the waiter took our order for cooked options. We went for the full English, bacon, egg sausage mushrooms beans &grilled tomatoe.Only niggle was that the plate could have been bigger, the amount was fine but it was served on a smaller plate so everything was fighting for space. We were brought toast(brown&white)tea coffee all hot.All in this was a very good hotel that we would use again.

Really enjoyed this hotel. Lovely small swimming pool with very hot jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Breakfast was great, excellent service with polite and effective staff. Room was also very nice although road view rooms, were due to another hotel nearby could be fairly noisy. They allow dogs to stay at this hotel and I saw many customers with theirs in tow, so would be worth considering this before booking if you are not a dog lover. That said I never saw any in communal areas, therefore thinking they must only allow them in rooms.

Room Tip: Higher level away from road side as quieter
