“Okay hotel, could do with some updating”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 via mobile

I was a little dubious after booking this hotel because I read a lot of the reviews on trip advisor and it was not looking good!

Firstly, parking was fine. The hotel has it's own private parking area, which was a little full, but someone in our group parked on the road directly outside the hotel without a problem for 3 days.

I was surprised with how nice the hotel appeared, the reception area was clean, welcoming and well looked after. There were two members of staff on the desk, we were seen to immediately. There were 6 of us in the group, each of the rooms were booked under different names, which we weren't aware of and it wasn't explained very well at all to us. We thought the booking was under the person who booked it all... So there was some confusion there. We booked through spa breaks and had the girls night in package, which included wine, popcorn, pizza, chocolate and DVDs. I explained this to the manager
on the desk, who asked what time we would like the Food and that the DVDs should be in the rooms - brill!

We went to our rooms, executive doubles, which were lovely, huge beds, flat screen telly, bay windows, but absolutely BOILING hot!!! Even with a ceiling fan! And asking for a free standing fan which the hotel were happy to give us.

No sign of DVDs in any of our groups rooms, so went back to reception.. We were told, if they're not there, it'll probably be too late now..?! Which wasn't acceptable as we had paid for them, and it was only 19.30pm! Having double checked the rooms, I asked another member of staff who was very friendly and gave us a good selection of DVDs. The food was amazing! Huuuuge amount of pizza, huge amount of popcorn, yummy chocolates and a large glass of wine each!

Breakfast was gorgeous, great selection of food, juices and tea and coffee. Drink prices at the bar, quite pricey, but it's a hotel, you come to expect it.

The spa is in need of some updating... The main swimming pool was nice and clean. The surrounding changing rooms a little grotty, ceilings crumbling, not a lot of space, clean enough... The main spa was nice, another pool and 2 jacuzzi's which were nice. A steam room, which was small and could do with some TLC, a small sauna, ok aromatherapy room and a chill room. Again, the nearby changing rooms were small, only one shower which meant huge queues, but had free lockers which was handy.

All the girls on the break couldn't speak highly enough of the treatments, some had nails done, others back massages and facials. The staff who procided the treatments were friendly and professional. It was divine! And having had some issues with the booking of the treatments, which could have meant we didn't all have the treatments we actually requested, I have to say, the spa manager (I can't remember his name!!!) was very very helpful and tried to do his best to make up for the mistakes that were made... It was eventually all resolved thank goodness.

Location is good and walkable to the city centre.

Overall, the hotel is nice, needs some improvements and there is a definite need for improvement in communication, both between staff and outside booking agents, and particularly between the staff and clientele!

Do not write this hotel off, but I do hope they make some much needed improvements, because there is potential...

What a hateful shower the management (Racheal) and staff were. Miserable, unwelcoming and abrupt when asked simple questions. I witnessed so many people complaining about hospitality and the state of the place it was laughable! Tiny rooms not suitable for two people at all also boiling hot, stuffy, dated decor, dirty carpets, everywhere thick with dust and bathroom filthy. Electricity failed leaving the whole floor without use of kettle, hairdryer, fan ect. I could wee faster than the shower pressure! Cold water tap runs warm then hot! Floors in Pool and spa areas very dirty. Grit in both pools. Garden area dirty. Delapadated place in need of a huge facelift. Light fitting outside our room fell down missing my head by an inch! Reception laughed when I reported it! Totally overpriced food, drinks and definitely rooms. DO NOT .... I REPEAT.....DO NOT STAY HERE!

If I could rate "0" then I would. It's allegedly a 4* Hotel, more like a 0* Hostel

- Extremely rude Manager (Namely Rachel - hard faced sour puss whos in desperate need of basic training in customer care and people management)
- Unpleasant and miserable reception staff
- Boiling hot/stuffy rooms with fan that didn't work (I could blow on you with better results)
- NO COLD WATER AT ALL FROM COLD TAP!!!
- Old, tired, dirty & scruffy decor in rooms
- Tiny double rooms with a single wardrobe for 2 people
- Filthy dirty (full of grit) pools and spa areas also dirty unkempt garden area to the rear
- Pushy staff ringing rooms selling spa treatments then asking again when you pass reception 10 minutes later
- Bar staff ignorant left waiting an age for a drink even though the hotel was practically
empty

****THIS HOTEL NEEDS CLOSING DOWN ASAP****

Room Tip: Just don't stay here...stay anywhere else...in your car even just NOT here!

This hotel is absolutely beautiful and clean, the staff are friendly and helpful. The spa facilities are wonderful, with two pools, aromatherapy cave which is so relaxing!! Relaxation lounge, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The room was very clean as well with a big comfy bed. At first it seems like the hotel is a bit far from the sea front but its about a 5 minute walk to town and a 10 minute walk to the sea front which isn't bad! It has free car parking and Wi-Fi which is excellent for Bournemouth as a lot of hotels charge for parking! Will be going back :)

We arrived on a sat afternoon to an incredibly grumpy Indian gentleman at reception. I understand that people can be busy with work but he distinctively made us feel incredibly unwelcome and was not a good experience.

The room needs updating a little but slightly modern...however the bathroom was old and very unmodernised and horrible. Disappointed. There were odd humming noises and banging and on Sunday morning there was a band practising in a dancehall which must be situated above room 2??

Breakfast was good.

Despite there being a party of 30 with us the staff were incredibly unhelpful in opening the late bar at 12.30 and one gentleman was rude to my father in law.

I would avoid this hotel like the plague. The only positives were that is is close to shops and beach and that the breakfasts were nice.

Def not worth the money of £250 for 2 nights

Staff were very friendly, hotel was very shabby and needs investment. Spa wasn't great, work men traipsing in and out. Grouting all black showers extremely low water pressure not great when you have long hair! Indoor pool cold and full of builders sand. Luckily didn't spend too much on accommodation otherwise I'd have been extremely disappointed. Breakfast was good but I wouldn't rush back.

We had the misfortune to stay in this hotel for two nights. Having read the reports on Trip Advisor, I knew not to expect too much and was not disappointed. The room was exceptionally small, hot and stuffy although there was a fan. The decor was depressing to say the least, and as for the bathroom, it was archaic, like something out of the 60's! The sink was blocked, the hot tap on the bath did not work, the shower head was broken and soaked the room when used. The bed had only one bedside light, where was the other? We did ask to change rooms but apparently the hotel was full so it was not possible. The whole hotel is tired and in need of complete refurbishment. How it has 4 stars is beyond my comprehension. Breakfast was actually very good. Credit where credit is due! All in all, not somewhere I will ever return and certainly would not recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here! There is much better available elsewhere for the same money.
