Overall a good experience.
Pros : Excellent Service , Awesome Location, Very Clean Bathroom, Nice décor in the Lounge.
Cons : Inadequate parking space, Small rooms, Very small lift

The stay was overall good. The service of the staff is excellent. Since I kept a "Do not Disturb" tag for the whole day, the room service kept a full set of replacement towels in front of the door. Having stayed in N number of hotels around the globe this was something of a surprise for me and a first time experience. The bathrooms are very clean. The location is perfect with a short walk from the beach.
The parking space on the weekends is a problem, though we were given option to park in the nearest Cliffside and Seacliff hotels it was still a very bad experience. Its more like we have to wait in the road and quickly enter when a car comes out of the hotel. We had to spend literally 20-30 minutes both times we took our car out. We even had to park our car outside in the road and come back later to get a parking space. The rooms are pretty small and needs some re designing. For the amount this was the smallest room I have ever got. Also there was some noise from upstairs and near by rooms. The lift is too small and three persons can squeeze in if there is no luggage.

Having said that we forget all the problems due to a very good service both in reception as well as in the restaurant area.

Dear Ashwin M,

Thank you for a good review. Your compliments regarding the staff and service, thank you. We do endeavour to provide all our guests with great customer service, which you experienced. We have great Housekeeping team, and our Executive Head Housekeeper is on top of her game, and I know she will be really pleased when she reads your review. Her team too!
Unfortunately, the nature of the building is inherited, and where we can, we try to make changes if plausible. Room sizes do vary, but overall they are all good sizes. Our lift, is cosy, but we do have service lift which is operated by staff for luggage ect. which does help the overall usage of our guest lift.
Car parking, is a premium in Bournemouth. We are lucky in our resort of 3 hotels together that we have 3 car parks. When its busy, yes it can be difficult to locate a good spot, but car parking is available on sea front for £3 for the entire day, and free overnight.

I am glad that these minor issues did not deter your stay at the Cumberland.

We hope to welcome you back soon!

Sean Nell

wonderful hotel, good food (six stars)and staff were extremely helpful. Bedrooms need a bit of refinement i.e. toiletries ,tissues etc. had to ask for toilet rolls twice. bathroom lighting poor and could do with more lighting in bedroom ceiling. plumbing and heating need sorting out also. we had to ask for an extra radiator and hot water would only operate if we put on bath taps!!!! apart from that we had an enjoyable four days but the weather was extremely poor and we couldn't go out without an umbrella. shame really because location of the hotel was excellent and we couldn't use the sun beds or outside pool. would definitely go again.

Dear avrils186411,

Thank you for your review. I have noted your comments regarding the room issues you described. Unfortunately with regards, very few our bedrooms, to the bathroom radiator the hot water for the basin and bath circulate through it, and is not connected to main heating gas boiler. This is the building unfortunately. Your comments are constructive, and we will obviously look into it, and will also mention to HK your toilet rolls. But I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us, which is reflected in your rating!
We hope to see you again soon.

I loved the art deco style of the hotel. The pinks and grey tones created a stylish and relaxing atmosphere. The reception area, lounges and restaurants were simply gorgeous, and I loved the black and white photos of old movie stars.

We ate at the Ventana restaurant twice. Not only was there a very reasonable 'deal' - the food was superb. On both occasions. Fish was perfectly cooked and the restaurant staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The only let down were the bedrooms. They were clean, but the interior design was a world apart from the rest of the hotel. I saw three rooms - all were very dated.

Room Tip: Do not go for 109.

Dear smithfamilyhols,

Thank you for your review. Great comments regarding the hotel public areas and the food. I think you ate the Ventana Grand Cafe, which is our 2 AA rosette restaurant, so really pleased that you enjoyed your meal.
We have a continuous maintenance and decorating programme, and I'm sure the rooms you looked at will decorated soon. Thank you for you comments.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Cumberland again soon.

Wished we'd booked a sea view room as they were full and we couldn't upgrade when we arrived. Our room was recently decorated and had a new carpet but overlooked the car park. The bar and restaurant areas are really nice and the outdoor pool area looked good too, but it was too cold to enjoy a swim or sunbathe. We had a very nice steak meal using the Thursday night deal which was great value.

Room Tip: The hotel has wooden floors which creak a bit and we could hear people walking above us from our roo...

Dear Liz15Uk,

Thank you for your great review. Our Sea View Rooms are just supberb. They are booked out really quickly, but I am pleased you enjoyed your stay anyway.
Thursday Steak nights are very popular, and they are really good value. Glad you took up the offer.

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding on Saturday 25th May. I have to be honest, I have lived in the Bournemouth area all of my life and was not familiar with the Cumberland, and presumed it would be just another tired Bournemouth hotel with dated décor and carvery lunches to the over 80’s.

Well I could not have been more wrong! I love the Art Deco theme, attention to detail was amazing, from the bar to the toilets. Staff were exceptionally attentive, food was great, what a breath of fresh air in this day and age. I stay in hotels all over the world from Hilton, to Shangri-la, to Grand Hyatt – what a brilliant effort from a hotel in Bournemouth, both my wife & I, plus many of the other guests were suitably impressed.

So well done to the staff for making such a positive impression and delivering such a good product.
