Just back from a short stay at this hotel. We had bought an excellent deal on Travelzoo which included dinner. We paid extra to upgrade and have a sea facing room with balcony which was well worth it. Our room was light and airy with great views across the sea. The public areas in the hotel were spacious and very comfortable and in the Art Deco style and all the staff were welcoming and very helpful. The hotel would benefit from a little tlc in places but overall it was a very pleasant stay and we would be happy to return one day.

Room Tip: Pay for an upgrade to a sea facing room it really is worth it!

We spent two nights here and were generally very impressed. The Art Deco design was lovely, especially the wonderful mirrors everywhere! The hotel was very clean, the rooms well-appointed and the staff both friendly and efficient. We had one dinner in the main restaurant and this was really our only negative point. I started with a pear, walnut and rocket salad, which was nearly all pear and much too cold, followed by a hake dish with a sun-dried tomato topping. The fish was very overcooked and dry (it had clearly been sitting under the lights in the kitchen to keep it hot and should never have been allowed out with the waiter). However, when I complained, it was speedily (very apologetic and polite) replaced with a freshly cooked one where the fish was perfectly cooked, although with far too much sun-dried tomato (very overpowering). My partner was very happy with his food, though did comment that the roast lamb was overcooked. The cooked breakfast the following morning also did not impress - everything is kept warm in trays on the counter and had clearly been sitting there for some time. However, the following morning it was much better as the hotel was much fuller and the trays were constantly refreshed.

we stayed for one night so as to see a show at the bic. When we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful. Are room wasnt ready, and we were given the choice to upgrade to a sea view for an extra £40.i did this, and as that room wasnt ready, they gave us a glass of bubbly while we waited.they then gave us the honeymoon suite which was lovely,(bit dated) but had fantastic views. We had our meal on the balcony and a bottle of wine,it was really nice. The hotel is a bit dated, but we found it clean and comfy, and all the staff we met were super friendly and really helpful.i would go back.so well done all at the cumberland.

Room Tip: if you can,pay a bit more for the sea views, its well worth it.

We stayed 2 nights at the Cumberland in the teeth of the February gales to attend a 60th birthday party.

The hotel, the staff and the party were first class and I thought prices generally were very reasonable.

When the sun finally broke through the views over Poole Bay were super.

Room Tip: Always get a sea view. The rooms are a little extra and a lot more exciting when the wind gets up!

My wife and I arrived at the hotel on Sunday 2nd March 2014 in a force 11 severe storm, with rain lashing the hotel. Parking the car was a bit of a problem as there was a Wedding Display on which had created quite a few more cars. Once parked up in the sister hotel next door, we were treated to two nights of luxury and very attentive staff. The food was superb, both in the main restaurant and in the 2 for 1 deal in the second restaurant. The car was relocated to the Cumberland later after the function had departed. We had two walks into town which was within easy reach even for two old biddies like us. We had a taxi back on one occasion in view of the rain at a cost of £4, which was probably cheaper than trying to park the car in town for a few hours. There is a local bus service route 33 which runs infrequently. We left on Tuesday 4th March, pancake day, and yes the hotel produced an abundance of pancakes with our breakfast. Personally I would stay there again... well done to all the staff.

Room Tip: 3rd floor with sea view, and watch the sun rise each morning.

We have just got back from a Fri to Mon break at The Cumberland Hotel. We have been several times before and again could not fault it. From checking in at reception, our room and the food and service in the hotel, all was great. Our room was a lovely sea view terrace room, but we have stayed in other rooms and they are all nicely decorated and have everything you need. We had some lovely meals in the Ventana Grand Cafe food and service is always good and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The breakfasts in the hotel are plentiful and you can have either continental or full English or order from a menu.
We would recommend this hotel, and do so often, and we will be back again in a few weeks.
See you soon.

Excellent break. Friendly helpful staff in all areas of the hotel. Clean comfortable room on the top floor, this had no view but as it was a budget break we did not mind. The hotel is in a lovely location on the cliff top almost in the centre of the wonderful bay, this gave us good walks in either direction. The food was very good with a self service style breakfast and waiter service in the evening. The choices of food were good with generous portions .
We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
