What an amazing weekend at the Cumberland , we stayed 15th,16 th march 2014 and the weather was a bonus but it would not of mattered as the service, rooms , staff and food was outstanding. The staff here could not do enough, the food was tasty and hot. We went to the st Patricks event on the sat , this isn't the first event we have been to as always good entertainment . We always come back to celebrate our birthdays here and will continue too, never a bad meal. The rooms were comfy, showers good pressure and temp, also the views amazing.
The breakfast was hot and we were not rushed out once finished.
Sunday lunch what can I say, again superb and the birthday cake was bought out by a few staff who sang happy birthday out on the terrace. Even the general manager made an appearance and spoke to us, where else do you see this happening on a Sunday. So glad we live here and able to return frequently.
A week later I return for lunch for Nan's birthday and the Brie starter, lamb shank and choc cheesecake was perfect. Well done Cumberland hotel keep up the good work.

Celebrated Diamond Anniversary lunch with family in the Mirabelle Restaurant. The service was exceptional from originally booking the day through to the end of the meal. Nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were extremely polite and helpful. The lunch was lovely and very good value, there was more than enough for everyone, and the cake that was provided was absolutely gorgeous. The hotel surroundings are lovely and I can't wait to sample the Ventana cocktails and restaurant. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and I'm looking forward to returning to sample some more delights.

I stay in many hotels worldwide, most are 5 or 4 star. This was a last minute booking and I was very pleasantly surprised. As a 3 star hotel the staff were very good. The Restaurant Manager was very friendly and hands-on and the buffet was re-filled efficiently without the need for a long wait for eggs etc. Something many 4-star hotels could do better!

As the hotel does attract some parties, we had to phone down to complain about the noise coming from the room next door as although it was only 9.15pm, we had a child in the room and therefore the loud cheering and banging of doors was not good. This was politely acknowledged by the man on reception and within 5 minutes it was sorted. Excellent!

The family room had one king size and one single bed and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and the decor clean and fresh looking. The shower worked well although it did suffer from temperature fluctuation which could be dangerous for children as the taps were not marked.

The bar was good and well serviced. For booking direct we had a free Cava which was a welcome surprise.

We did have a look at the hotel from the same Oceana chain next door and were not so impressed with the decor there. The carpets looked worn and tired in the reception and ground floor areas. They do however have the indoor pool so it is useful to know if not to stay in.

Overall very good and would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Balcony room is a must.

Booked one night to celebrate our anniversary. Lovely top floor room with balcony which had amazing sea views. There was a lovely 'Happy Anniversary' card with some biscuits and a voucher for two glasses of Bucks Fizz. Really nice touch. Room probably could do with a little TLC but the bed was very comfortable. Dinner in Bar Ventana was excellent and the staff were very attentive. Breakfast in the morning, although buffet style was lovely.Again the staff were very professional. Parking is very limited. However you can use the neighbouring two hotels in the chain and a parking permit for this is provided. Road parking is also available but only for a maximum of 8 hours.

We stayed here for just one night for a voucher dinner, bed & breakfast. The acid test is, would we go back to this hotel? And the answer is certainly yes we would. However, there was a little disappointment with our room - but that is not to say that all rooms would be the same as ours. (Room 102). I am sure they are not. But it was too basic for such a fine hotel - rather like one of the chain budget hotels. The TV was tiny, the furnishings were budget, the bed was double rather than king-size, the shower was over the bath from a tap-mixer and was extremely difficult to adjust for temperature, there was no grab-handle to assist getting in and out of the bath, nor anti-slip mat, the mugs for tea/coffee were more suited to a building site, and the walls and ceiling were thin. We were a bit disturbed by the noise of other guests - we could hear the sound of the TV in the room next door and the people above came back to their room rather noisily at 1:30am. But, as I say, we would certainly go back but would definitely ask for a higher standard room next time.

The public areas - Lounge, Dining Room, Bar, and all other spaces including meeting rooms and reception rooms etc., were absolutely marvelous - real 1930s. We kept looking around expecting to see Poirot. And the outside pool and decking area were splendid. (There is a heated indoor pool and sauna in the hotel next door which Cumberland guests can use.) The staff were gracious, polite and very helpful. The food was good 'hotel' food, not fine restaurant food. But that was what we expected and were very happy to have it. The location is absolutely terrific - right on the cliff facing out to sea.

All together we were very pleased. I have given a rating of 4, but if the room was a little better I would have given it 5.

Room Tip: Ask if the room has a double or king-size bed, and if it is the basic or higher standard.

Recently stayed with my mother for one night. The hotel is nicely decorated inside & has lovely views of the sea. The lift is very small though and only fits 2 people. The room was clean but everything looking worn & dated. The two single beds were hard and uncomfortable and we both had a terrible nights sleep. On the plus side, breakfast was help yourself and the food was good. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We did speak to the manager in the morning about the beds and he said he would have upgraded our room had he known. We didn't like to complain though at 11pm at night. The most important thing to me is a good nights sleep so I won't be staying here again.

Room Tip: If you have uncomfortable beds, complain and ask for a room upgrade.

Dear JSP20,

Thank you for your review. Some good compliments regarding the hotel and the service. Thank you. My sincere apologies that you found the beds uncomfortable. What we try to do, if a guest has particular issues with a room, is to try and find an alternative. We will investigate the bed situation, and if necessary replace.

We hope to welcome you back soon.

Best Regards,
