We have just had a three night break at this wonderful hotel, having stayed at other hotels in the area which we found to be anything but clean and comfortable, we did not have any reason to expect this hotel would be any better, how wrong we were, we had a wonderful stay, we booked on hotel special offer rates for three nights dinner/bed /breakfast, we found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and professional, the food was perfect, the hotel is Art Deco, the public areas, inc toilets, and guest rooms are very clean and comfortable and our room had a great sea view, the only negative comment would be that the room above us had a loose floorboard, this did not cause us a problem, overall we had a great stay and we hope to return sometime this year.

I stayed at the Cumberland in one of the Superior Rooms - the room was very ample and the bed was huge and extremely comfortable. The rooms facilities were good, tea and cofffee, great tv and bath room. The view of the sea was outstanding and certainly one of the highlights.

I enjoyed an evening meal in the bar area downstairs. The food was delicious and I was made to feel welcome by staff and felt extremely comfortable being there on my own.

It was a pleasant stroll into the centre along the East Cliffeside - bit harder on the way back as it is quite steep.

All in all I would recommend this hotel for the view, food and staff.

Arrived for 2 nights 17/18th and the food ,staff and presentation was as good as our stay in Monaco (Fairmont Hotel) however the room was extremely small and required a lot of work in decorating , to be fair I think the decorators are at present in the building. I was concerned about warning that any spillage from shower that leaks through to below client would be charged? also I dont know if room 322 is the only one but a smell comes up the shaft and out through the panel which keeps falling off in the wardrobe which is quite handy if you want to know what is on the menu that night. Regarding cleanliness I would say it could be better but not filthy having said that on our last day I managed to tread on broken glass in the bathroom which I assume had not been cleaned from last visit? Whilst this was a special offer I would think everything should have been at the highest standard to encourage re bookings? but for the price we paid I think it was extremely good value and worth putting up with the faults but I would have to complain if I had to paid full price

Thank you for your candid review, I was over the moon to have the Cumberland service, food and presentation compared to be as good as The Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo, a true achievement of my staff and one we do work hard at perfecting and maintaining. Your comments regarding the damage charge for over spilling showers serves as a deterrent for people who do not use the shower curtain inside the bath( which leads to damage and unsightly decor below). You are correct that we do have 10% of our rooms to complete and are continually snagging rooms that are redecorated. The issue with your bathroom floor is in hand and I can assure you this problem is being rectified as I write this reply. Once again thank you for your comments and we hope to see you back here soon

We got a cheap deal through lastminute.com so it was ok for what we paid. We had gone for a superior seaview room and the view was amazing. We did however see some of the interior rooms and they were very very small. Service out of hours was not good as they only had one receptionist who couldnt leave the desk so we were continuously going down to get coffee and milk as there was none in the room. Breakfast is good and plenty and the staff were helpful

I am delighted you enjoyed your few days at the Cumberland, and that you recogonised the unique atmosphere The Hotel has created. I am not sure which other rooms you saw but most of Cumberland rooms are indeed quite large, there is one corridior of the hotel that has smaller rooms and these tend to be booked for one person only ( Club Doubles), 90% of our rooms are now redecorated, only internal rooms (10%) are not and maybe it is these which you saw. I am glad you chose to upgrade to a sea view superior, and look forward to you returning soon

We stayed in The Cumberland Hotel for one night on a special deal, at a very reduced rate. I must say that for what we paid, we thought that the hotel was great, and we had a lovely couple of days.

The public areas (bar, reception, restaurant) were smartly decorated and created quite a unique atmosphere for the hotel. Unfortunately, from the ground floor up, you could see that the place was in need of some renovation. Although our room obviously had been decorated recently, some additional attention to aspects such as the electric sockets, the light fittings, hospitality tray and the furniture would have really improved the quality of the finish.

We requested a large-ish room because we were taking our daughter's travel cot and we got a very good sized room - probably bigger than we should have got for the rate we paid and I really appreciated that.

The breakfast was pretty good, though the house wine was terrible! Overall, the service was good too, though we did have to wait a long time for tea/coffee at breakfast. We used the pool in the next door, Suncliffe Hotel, and that was clean and warm, though the changing rooms were in need of modernisation.

All in all, this is a nice hotel in a lovely location, and because we paid such a great price we were delighted. However, if I had been paying even half of the rack rate, I would have expected more from the bedroom.

Thankyou for your candid review regarding your stay at the Cumberland, I am very pleased that an the whole you enjoyed your stay with us, and thought the cumberland was " Loveley". Regarding the house wine, It is a Chilean wine that has been most popular, we do have many other wines including Organic, Fair trade and English, also wines from around the globe and if you do visit with us again i will be happy to facilitate tasting the wines first. I am glad you enjoyed your room, the finer details like sockets etc are works ongoing within the hotel. We have spent millions in the past two years and are continuing to do so and keep the hotel maintained well, but I do appreciate your thoughts,

Regards

Kevin Wood
