Stayed May bank holiday with daughter and partener. Was offered a room the size of a broom cupboard. Was offered an alternative but the room was old and worn and needed a a good lick of paint. The tv was an old 12inch with 3 stations. The newley decorative lounges were very nice but when we came back in the evening we couldn't sit anywhere as there was a wedding taking up all the seats. So we left to go to the room and read a paper. No tv lounge, no sky, internet and wifi has to be paid for. Never again.

As a frequent traveller, I would expect not to be allocated the best room in the house for a low rate paid. Your single room which was charged at £45 for a bank holiday Saturday with breakfast, is standard 3 star hotel singles room size with all the facilties expected. With customer service in mind, you were offered as soon as you requested, a larger twin room which you chose not to accept.
All TV's at Cumberland are being gradually replaced. We will have freeview but not SKY channels. We also unlike many hotels, offer a complimentary WI-FI facilty in our bar lounges, room WI-FI is available for a nominal charge from bedrooms.
The hotel does not have a TV lounge and is not the type of hotel that would ever offer this facilty!
Regarding the wedding, we did have a small wedding on the OCEANA suite, guests of the hotel had plentiful seating during saturday night in both the Del Mar lounge and Ventana. We also offer the Tropicana and Palm lounges at the adjacent Suncliff.

Even though the staff and the facilities are good, we had a nice room for the price, but not clean. Hair in the bath, very dirty cups, lipstick marks and dusty. Bathroom floor quite slippery, but the worst thing was the location of the room itself. First foor, just above, what I assume was the kitchen because we could hear chef screaming for service, and all night woken up by the people upstair, litterally could hear every footstep. Ended up with no sleep at all, bad headache in the morning. Maybe other rooms are better, but I would never allowe anyone to stay in this room, unless they dont mind not sleeping at all.

Thank you for your recent comment and your compliments on the service and food. Unfortunatley on this occassion I find I cannot respond to your review properly. The dissapointment with your room could have been dealt with during your stay, as you chose not to alert the managers during the stay there is little I can say at this moment.
All rooms are cleaned to very high standards, and then checked by one or the Hotels four houskeepers before being released for arriving guests. If this proceedure was not carried out effectliveley I can only apologise. We also offer a guest satisfaction policy with our rooms, and had you requested we could have looked at reallocating you another room. We do have a small number of rooms above our main Kitchen, however service does cease at 10pm and not begin till 7.30am which normally means there are not normally noise issues. Once again thank you for your comments and they will be discussed at the weekly Head Of Department meeting.

Friendly staff seemed polite and well informed, the room was very good with balcony looking onto the seafront, clean and well furnished. The public areas are very nice with the art deco theme continued all around the hotel. The breakfast was good with a wide range of choice, although its totally self service i am not sure its a good idea having guests wandering around with trays of boiling tea and coffee, an accident waiting to happen

On the downside .....TV reception in the room was dreadful....Expensive drinks at the bar.....Parking can be difficult although it has 50 plus spaces, move your car and the race is on to fill that space within seconds!!!......i am not keen on paying in full at check in, never been asked to do that before at any hotel....very very small lift

But the niggles aside, it is a very nice place to stay

Thank you for your kind review, I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope you return again soon. Regarding our car park, we do only have 55 spaces, however we do have 997 seafront parking spaces available in fron of the hotel which are free overnight and only £3 for 24hours. The elevator as you say is small, although we do have a staff elevator which carries laundry, luggage and room service. These means that the passenger elevator is available just for geusts. Breakfast is full self service and very varied, we have found that most guests do like the facilty to prepare their own tea and coffee at their pace, and also to their liking. We do provide rubberized black trays for transportation, and also offer a full service of breakfast on requests. We are currently 35% into replacing all TV's with plasma screens, this has weakened the signal and this issue is currently being addressed. Thank you for your constructive comments and we look foward to seeing you again soon

We enjoyed six nights at the Cumberland. The superior sea view room was well worth paying extra for. The food in the brasserie and breakfast in the dining room was excellent, and the staff in those areas were very friendly. The decor in the hotel is grand, with chandeliers and cushions everywhere, which gives a homely feel. Overall, we felt it was extremely good value for a 3 star hotel, and we would definitely recommend it. We would also return without question.

One or two downside points. We did find the lift a ridiculous size for the number of rooms (3 people at a time in a 102 bedded hotel). We also found the car park quite difficult to park on, but you can park at adjacent hotels, so you can usually secure off road parking) - sometimes the parking was difficult due to guests taking two spaces, and we did see one guest bump into another car on there (our car has been scratched). Also, we found the fact that our room had only one power point quite awkward (with a camera, camcorder and two phones to charge).
