“Super relaxing countryside retreat”

Situated in a tiny village in Dorset, the Lodge has everything you need for a weekend of escape. I was there with friends and we made the most of the large living room, good kitchen facilities, and numerous bathrooms. The friendly pub is a 20 minute stroll away, perfect! The hot tub was brilliant but the sauna wasn't so efficient but that would not put me off staying again. Some of our group used the swimming pool and said it was great. I'd like to come back in warmer weather to make more use of the gardens which were well maintained. The only thing I would like to see added to the Lodge is Wi-Fi please!

“Fantastic stay!”
Reviewed 29 November 2013 for a stay in November 2013

We rented Houghton Lodge for a girls weekend away in November and it was perfect! The house is fantastic with great facilities and well decorated, it had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend (hot tub definitely helped with that!) It's located in a small, pretty village with some nice walks on the doorstop and a great local pub.

I would definitely recommend a stay here!

“If your looking for a large rental in Dorset, look no further!!!”
Reviewed 27 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

We have just returned from spending a Hen weekend at Houghton Lodge and I have had to leave a review to say how impressed we were following our stay.

Firstly, the setup to book is very straight forward and the website gives you all the information you need, excellent photos of the Lodge, details of extras you can add to your stay (which you don't often get with rental properties), its a very professional site and contact with the owners is prompt and professional. The property itself is set within a very tiny village, great if you want to be out in the country and peace and quiet, its bliss!!!

The Lodge itself is part of a two property setup, with another property and yourself sharing the use of the indoor swimming pool. We had use of the pool in the morning and the other house has use in the afternoon, pool is fantastic, large and indoor which is a bonus in cold weather but with large doors at either end for Summer use, separate changing and shower facilities within the pool building and very clean and tidy. Separately we had our own outdoor hottub and sauna and even in February's chilly weather and snow flurries we made very good use of both!! Again both hottub and sauna were well maintained and clean and the garden area is of a suitable size for the property with modern outdoor furniture.

Our property also benefited from being totally wheelchair friendly, so would suit a large family with older relatives or less able bodied famiy members. Adequate parking for 3-4 cars, I would agree for wheelchairs probably not the best choice of ground at the front with the gravel but overall not a problem or an issue for us, the gravel lends itself to the area and the property's overall look.

All the rooms were exactly as portrayed on the website, one very large reception room, with woodburning stove (but also central heating), 2 large sofa's and chesterfield chairs and poufees, flat screen TV and all the requisite CD/DVD players, speakers etc. I read the prior review and would agree that we weren't allowed to plug in the Wii that we took with us, but in the grand scheme of things... we didn't end up needing it anyway so it wasn't a big deal. Its a great space and we mostly spent our time in the lounge whilst at the lodge, its very comfortable, homely but with a modern feel. Woodburner is amazing and keeps lounge very warm.....its novel also to learn how to start a fire properly!!!

Other receptions consist of a large sunroom with pool table (great for kids), a large dining area and a huge kitchen with breakfast bar and all the facilities you need whether your there for a weekend or a week's stay (including a full size drinks fridge), modern appliances and clean and plentiful crockery, cutlery and glassware. We greatly appreciated the hot cross buns were waiting for us on arrival, which after a hike in the car down to Dorset were much appreciated.

The property has 3 bathrooms, one an ensuite to the master (with a bath and shower attachment), one large bathroom (set up as a wetroom - primarily for less able bodied people but well used by all the girls due to how good the shower was!!) and a further large bathroom in the side wing of the house, with large shower cubicle (again amazing water pressure ensured a great shower morning or evening). All bathrooms were clean and uncluttered.

The property sleeps 11, with 5 bedrooms, all good spaces, one smaller twin room but all the same at the end of the day you spend half your life in a bedroom with your eyes shut... and believe me you will sleep well as every one of our hens commented on just how comfortable the beds were and personally I could not fault the bedding, it was new, soft, clean and exactly the quality you would get in a 5 star hotel. All bedrooms were tastefully decorated and modern with adequate wardrobes and drawers.

About a 20 minute drive into Bournemouth it is a little out of the way, but if all your looking for is a central location then this probably isn't the place for you. If however your looking for a beautiful property with everything you need to have a fantastic weekend away or a great family holiday with a large group coupled with the tranquility of staying in a rural position but still within a half hour drive of the beach and seaside towns....stop looking ....and get booking....you have found the place you should be staying in!!!

Our experience from start to finish was a breeze and contact with the landlord has been an absolute pleasure. I couldn't believe more people hadn't been in contact to thank the landlords after their stay, I could positively rave about this place all day....it is my pleasure to help them promote this property as it was a treat to stay at Houghton and if I find myself needing a large property in Dorset again, I will input their number onto speed dial!!!

“Fantastic Girls Weekend”
Reviewed 28 June 2012 for a stay in June 2012

Had a fantastic stay at the Lodge for my hen weekend with the girls, great facilities on site hand for both abled and less abled people, and we loved the hot tub!! Driveway a little hard work for a wheelchair user as stones rather than tarmac but we managed and all other facitilies were spot on. Beautican came to lodge to give us treatments and taxi firm recommended on website were great picking us on time both ways to and from Bournemouth on the Saturday night. Only thing that we were a little dissappointed with was that we couldn't use the wi console on the TV as not allowed which we took with us, but not sure if we would have had time to play it anyway, but would have preferred that to have been highlighted on the website. Lovely homely touches on arrival such as fresh cake and flowers. Would recommend and book again.
