“Great, traditional hotel with excellent staff and great central location”
Reviewed 12 March 2012

Great, traditional hotel with excellent staff and great central location. Very clean throughout the hotel. Lots of brass in the public areas and metal fittings (brass and chrome) in the rooms were shiny and regurarly polished. The food is good (no more, no less). Minor niggles were: the shower in our room was very weak (but usable), the pillows were quite hard and compacted and parking at £12.00 per day is steep. To be fair we were told about the cost of parking at the time of booking and we still chose to park at the hotel as it has secure underground parking, The NCP car park next door is similarly priced. Overall we were impressed and will happily stay here again.

Had booked champagne afternoon tea from Groupon. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were very fresh. I have to say that the scones were the best I have tasted in a restaurant and that includes at the Ritz! The tea was good and hot. However, there was no jam to go with the scones and cream. I had to ask for this and we were not offered more tea-again I had to ask. At no point during our tea did one of the waitresses come to ask if everything was all right.
So, I would have to say- good food but better service required!

Went there as part of a groupon promotion-price was £16 for two including a glass of bubbly. Instead of their 'normal' price of £39.00 for two. The hotel has a wonderful lobby and lounge area but instead, when we arrived, we were ushered into a 'conference style room with no windows - only natural light was from the skylight above. When presented with our afternoon tea the end sandwiches were stale which indicated that they may have been sat around for a while and we were disappointed that there were no salmon - as there are with many other venues offering afternoon tea. Good selection of cakes but not very fresh or of good quality. Very disappointed.

My wife& I stayed on a gold voucher break ( 2 nights ) in February. From the moment we arrived until we checked out the sevice ,food, room quality and amenities were excellent.
The hotel is in a very central position with good access to the shops, beach, public transport and entertainment.

We stayed at the hotel in January on a Golden Voucher deal recommended by my parents costing £109 for 2 nights DB&B. This was excellent value for money, the hotel was lovely, staff very friendly and accommodating, the room good for the price and the food absolutely excellent. The hotel is central and just minutes walk from the gardens and town centre. We requested a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the gardens which they were more than happy to arrange for us. Car parking is quite expensive so we managed to park residentially, about a 5 minute walk away. The only downside for us was the bed wasnt particulary comfortable and was two twins pushed together, however still excellent value for money and we will definitely be returning next year if they offer this deal again.
