My husband and I stayed for two nights in January on the ‘gold voucher offer’ (you just call and ask for it). This gave us an Executive Double Room for 2 nights with dinner, bed and breakfast at a cost of £129. Car parking was an additional £13 per day. In terms of value, on this deal, you really can’t knock it for a central Bournemouth location and, overall, a reasonable place to stay.

However, if paying more than this, you’d certainly want to be aware of some distinct pros and cons of the hotel.

Pros:

Arrival – The latest sitting for dinner is 8:45pm but we couldn’t arrive until around 9:30pm. We were immediately greeted at reception by someone who offered that the kitchen was still working and they’d be happy to prepare us something to eat in the bar, e.g. a burger. Very good service.

Food – Breakfasts are delicious. They limit the amount of food sat out under the lamps so what you get is quite freshly cooked, and it’s all very tasty. For dinner the £27.50 the food on the Table d’Hote menu was pretty good value and our food was well cooked and good portions. One afternoon we had cream tea – two large scones with jam and cream – which was also delicious.

Toiletries – Molton Brown, either small bottles or large pump dispensers, depending on room type.

Cons:

Room 314 (the worst) or nearby on that floor – Very loud sound of a generator or fans or similar. Would not have been able to sleep there. We asked to move and were upgraded to a Deluxe room. Why give us that room when they know it’s a problem and there are other rooms available?! The hotel definitely wasn’t full the week-end we were there.

Bed Sizes – The exec double rooms are described as having a “Queen size” bed but we’re pretty sure they’re actually a King Size. The Deluxe rooms have super-king size beds (they are either selling themselves short by calling them king size on the website or we got lucky with our Deluxe room).

Key cards for the rooms – Rarely work. We kept on not being able to access the room and had to get replacements from reception. We stayed as a group of 10 and all experienced the same issue.

Rooms – Most are looking a bit tired and in need of deep cleaning and/or refurbishment. Even where bathroom fittings look quite new, cleaning is not keeping on top of small amounts of mould around bathroom tiles / windows / etc.

Wifi – Good that it’s offered free (password from reception) but doesn’t reach many of the rooms, so was of very limited use.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms for decent sized bed. Avoid 314 or close by on that floor. Check room as soon as you ar...

We bought our daughter a Gold Card for this Hotel to celebrate her 40th birthday 3 years ago. On her advice we decided to stay here ourselves in January 2014.
We found the stay very disappointing, the check in staff were quite bored and unhelpful as though they could not be bothered. The 1st room we were given (304) was absolutely filthy as it looked as though it had not been vacuumed for months and was very dingy and dirty.
We were then moved to room 314 which was much better apart from the constant noise of the kitchen extractor fans which droned all night resulting in no sleep for 2 nights.
The bathroom was very small and the non moveable shower head was only suitable for tall people, small people like me could not reach it to adjust it.
The swimming pool was closed, much to our disappointment, the parking fees were a disgusting price(£13 a day) and it appears only people with a Gold Voucher were charged this.
We found the food quite good and generally the restaurant staff were nice.
We cannot see how this Hotel has received a AA 4 star rating as it is quite tatty.

Room Tip: Do not choose to go on floor 3 between rooms 304 -316 as the noise of the extractor fans will keep y...

We stayed as a couple in January 2013 using a "Gold Voucher" offer and liked it so much we returned this January with our family. Six adults and a 3 year old were royally looked after - the lounge and bar areas were very comfortable and the food very good (especially the Sunday evening meal). We were disappointed the pool wasn't in use, but we were able to use the facilities of a local country club free of charge. Our rooms on the first floor were fine with Molton Brown toiletries provided and the beds were very comfortable. The rooms are in need of updating, which I understand they have already started on the second floor. The hotel is ideally situated for a short walk to the town centre. Very good value for the money - we will certainly return again.

This is was our 3rd visit to the hotel. We have been very happy with previous stays but this time felt a bit let down. The previous manager was very friendly and co-operative but felt the new manager was very officious when checking in. We had no toiletries in the room and had a faulty hair-dryer. The room also needed a good hoover throughout and the headboard was very sticky, the bathroom floor had not been cleaned in some time which was also disappointing. Generally the place could do with a good clean, the corridors included. (Coffee stains on top of radiator covers, chipped paintwork etc etc) The pool was also closed for maintenance, which we had not been informed about before booking. All this apart, the food was lovely and the rest of the staff very friendly and helpful. We would like to visit again but this has put us off. Hopefully some improvements will be made.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room facing the side of the hotel. Very noisy road with cars etc...

Stayed in this hotel for the second time and it was even better than our first stay. Staff were lovely and could not do enough for you. We stayed with the gold card deal and thought it was excellent value for money. The rooms were amazing. Huge TV, very comfortable and ensuite facilities were fab. The food was lovely, could not fault it at all and cannot wait to come again next year. Keep up the good work.

Room Tip: We stayed at the front of the hotel which is probably slightly noiser than the back as you face the...
