“Not good.”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 via mobile

We booked this for the bank holiday weekend.
The hotel is old, dirty and nowhere near the coast.
The bar was overpriced and noisy with single all male groups.
We didn't even attempt to use the indoor pool as everything else in the hotel looked so dirty and old. Paint coming off the walls and the doors/door handles were absolutely filthy. The room we booked was overpriced. We paid around £300 for 3 nights which in my opinion is overpriced for a place like this.
All in all a huge let down. Don't go here if you want a relaxing stay, we certainly won't be coming back.

We decided on a last minute booking and found the Carrington House Hotel. We were accommodated in one of their newly refurbished rooms and were very impressed. Very clean, stylish and comfortable. The hotel is obviously making an effort with different parts of the hotel undergoing refurbishment and we understood their desire to make changes. The leisure area was great and the pool was a delight.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly refurbished room!

We stayed here for the one night and was disgusted at the state of the place and the lack of communication the hotel has with the people that take the bookings. The hotel staff managed to get everything wrong and I mean everything. Apparently when we checked out, we were down as not having turned up. This explains why they didn't want to let us in for breakfast.
The room smelled of sewers, there was holes in the walls and wallpaper was ripped on every wall and the toilet wouldn't flush. It was basically just unclean. We actually paid for a late checkout but just couldn't wait to leave. I wouldn't put my dog in there.

Stayed 1 night as our stopover heading towards the west country. Photos on the website very deceiving. Booked a family room. Paid £135 for the privelage of staying in a complete hellt hole. No mention when we booked that it's a building site with no where to park because of tradesman's vans taking up the parking spaces. Went to the bar for a drink with my wife and 8 tear old son and all you could hear was non stop swearing by about 10 builders on a stag do and this was at 4.30 in the afternoon so we left. The state of the room was disgusting and the view outside was worse. To think that we paid £130 to stay in this hell hole begs belief. We decided to eat out as the hotel was so warm and we did not want to be there. We were tempted to cut our loses and try and find somewhere else. The bedding and mattress were terrible so we slept fully clothed on top of the bed. We were booked for breakfast but decided to skip this and were ready and left the hotel just after 7am.
Would we stay here again or recommend this hotel to anyone? Most definitely not. It says its a 3* hotel. We did not find 1* about this hotel. The reason the staff are rude and could not give a damn is because they are forever apologising for the incompetence of the management of the Brittania Hotel group. Finally arrived at our holiday destination in the West Country feeling relieved that our ordeal with Brittania Hotels is behind us. We stayed 15/08/14. Please read other comments before you book. Pay a bit more and get more.

We booked in advance a room with this hotel (on booking.com) for a weekend in June 2014 when we went on a tour of the South coast.

When we arrived at the hotel we were told that they are fully booked and that they reserved for us a room at a different hotel in Bournemouth (Royal Bath Hotel). They printed us a map and bye bye; no apologies, no explanations how this happened -- we found this a little bit rude.

Anyway, we did not seem to have any option but to go to the other hotel as it would have been to late to start looking for another accommodation, as well we were very tired at that time in the evening.

Surprises were still to come... Carrington had free private parking, the new hotel was asking us £20 for their private parking. After several discussions we got to a solution where Carrington finally agreed to refund us what we had to pay for parking at Royal Bath.

More over... Royal Bath had nice rooms, however the one Carrington booked there for us was in a basement area, probably where employees were sleeping. There were some rooms there with windows near some back yard storage area, windows were blocked for security. The room was tiny, bed very small for 2 people and the ventilation hose on the wall was not blowing enough air, after taking a shower we suffocated in the room all night.

Royal Bath was fully booked as well, so we did not have any options. Going through all this, we would not recommend to anyone to book rooms at Carrington House Hotel as they might end up in a similar situation.

Room Tip: try another hotel

Had a nice stay at this hotel, pleasant staff, pool nice, food ok, not gourmet, left feeling happy, then got home and saw that £13.45 had been taken from my bank account, never spent never signed or consented too. Trying to get through to them impossible. Quick to take booking, not interested in after service.
