“Worst hotel”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

i always try to find a positive in any hotel but this one really is the worst hotel i have been.
The hotel first need a big update, room and toilets are look very old, service wasn't great, we arived at 2pm and they strictly told us that check in was a 3pm, they even look if was any rooms available, and if you think the check out is a 10am they take lonf time to clean the rooms, plus the rooms are not clean at all........our bathroon towel was so dirty that we need to call the reception.
please don't book this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't book this hotel

I don't know what hotel people with positive reviews have been to because this is a terrible place to stay. Stayed there in August and could only manage 1 night- room smelled awful, reception staff were unhelpful, bathroom was stained and bath was rusted, shower wasn't working. It was noisy and must have been furnished somewhere in the late 20s. No internet- reception staff advised me there are too many users right now and there isn't anything they can do about it! For all this pleasure I paid £95 per night!

I just felt that I had to make the effort to make sure that things were in place for my stay. For example, I had to catch the attention of the lady who was at reception so that she could check us is. Then, after looking aimlessly around the lobby, I had to ask for directions fromt he same lady to find my room, it was a new room and there were no signs to point me in the right direction.
First thing I wanted was to shower, frustratingly the shower was poor. There was no pressure, might as well not have bothered.
After the shower, I wanted to use the hotel's "free wifi". I was asked for login details. Searched all my paperwork, could not find it. I had to go to reception, and they then give me obscure login details.
Tried to login with these details, but I was presented with the message "maximum users logged in". I therefore had to tether to my mobile phone at my own cost.
The room was very clean and tidy, though it had no windows, and was quite muggy. A fan is provided.
Bed seemed comfy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window, that way you can let fresh air in if needed.

We stayed at this hotel this June with our two grandchildren for a 3-night break and were v disappointed. We previously stayed 2 years ago and it was great then. We found the lack of waiter service, the £10 meal deal was rubbish and our granddaughter, who enjoyed croissants and melon for breakfast last time, was disappointed that these fresh fruits were no longer available. We asked for the table tennis bats so we could have a game but the cloth covering them was ripped so much we had to decline. Our worst experiences were the fact that the hotel took £20 off our credit card for something we didn't have and our grandson left his mobile phone in the bedroom and although we have contacted the hotel on numerous occasions, and also emailed britannia hotels who own carrington house, we have heard nothing! What a disappointment. Now there are 2 rooms which aren't going to be booked by us next year - do they not want guests???

We booked this for the bank holiday weekend.
The hotel is old, dirty and nowhere near the coast.
The bar was overpriced and noisy with single all male groups.
We didn't even attempt to use the indoor pool as everything else in the hotel looked so dirty and old. Paint coming off the walls and the doors/door handles were absolutely filthy. The room we booked was overpriced. We paid around £300 for 3 nights which in my opinion is overpriced for a place like this.
All in all a huge let down. Don't go here if you want a relaxing stay, we certainly won't be coming back.

We decided on a last minute booking and found the Carrington House Hotel. We were accommodated in one of their newly refurbished rooms and were very impressed. Very clean, stylish and comfortable. The hotel is obviously making an effort with different parts of the hotel undergoing refurbishment and we understood their desire to make changes. The leisure area was great and the pool was a delight.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly refurbished room!
