just got back with my partner after staying for two nights. For the price it was rather good. Didn't eat there so can't comment about food but staff were pleasant, room small but clean and adequate. we were lucky, weather on Saturday was fabulous so left room early and spent the whole day out. which is good as it's not a hotel i'd like to spend the whole day in. it's not a walk to the beach but with a car, no more than 5 minutes. if you just need a place to stay and not looking for fancy, then this hotel is more than adequate.

Room Tip: i can't speak for other rooms but it seems that hotels not facing the sea tend to have very warm rooms. this room was exceedingly hot and we had to open all 3 windows wide!

We stayed for one night at the hotel in a family room. First impressions were good. Contemporary furnishings, modern and open dining room and bar. We had a great sea view with a balcony which was a nice surprise given how much we were paying. I did feel the standard of decor downstairs had not been applied to the room which had very dated pictures, lampshades ect but the room was clean and the beds comfortable.
We used the indoor pool which was lovely and warm and had a tasty meal at the bar early evening. The staff were very accommodating. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice and a lovely sea view from the dining room.
The hotel is a five minute walk to Alum Chine beach which was perfect for our pre school children as it also has a playground there. It's a steep climb back to the hotel but good for burning off all those ice creams!
My one little moan was that as we were on the 2nd floor we had to try and get all our bags and two very young chldren into the lift. An offer of assistance at that point would have been well recieved but the receptionist stayed behind her desk.

Room Tip: 208 is a family room with a balcony and great sea view. Not big enough for a cot bed though.

I stayed with my girlfriend Tuesday 4th September for one night with my girlfriend. The place looks really nice, great looking entertainment/bar area, great looking room and a balcony over looking thed pool and with a sea view. Great location near the beach, we enjoyed a nice walk down to the bar at the pier. However, the floor boards in the corridor are extremely creaky, as are the ones in the room. Almost any movement anywhere is very noisy, especially annoying when people are going past your room. The worst bit though was the amount of bites we woke up with. I had three myself, including a very large painful one on my back, whereas my girlfriend had four on her foot alone.

Room Tip: Rooms were also very hot as there is no a/c

We have stayed at a number of hotels in Bournemouth but our favourites were all booked so we gave the Riviera a try as it was quite highly rated. We favour the West Cliff area so the Riviera at Alum Chine was perfectly located. However, first experience was not good. Parking at the hotel and in the road was extremely limited. We had to tour round the nearby roads for a space to park! When we arrived at the reception we were met by a very helpful and cheerful member of staff and I have to say that all of the staff were very good, cheery and helpful. Our room, 229 was quite a disappointment for a 3 star not cheap hotel. We have stayed in less expensive hotels and guest houses in Bournemouth with much larger rooms and ensuites. Even though there were only two of us we were constantly bumping into each other. Then there was was the bed! Standard size and rock hard! Again for the the price and the star rating I would have expected much better. I had trouble getting a good nights sleep. The walls are very thin so everyone has to wake up at the time of the earliest riser! The all of taps in the bathroom didn't work properly so it was impossible to get the water temperature right for the shower and the shower attachment was loosely attached to the wall resulting in it spraying everywhere. However, the rooms were clean. We had breakfast which is a buffet and therefore no better than average. Others will cook to order. The common areas are well presented but a single lift causes frustrations. The hotel is DOG friendly so watch out for owners and leads walking through the hotel.
