“Ok for the price”
Reviewed 22 February 2014 via mobile

Stayed here with my son for two nights as a half term trip. We were given a nice room which had a balcony and a partial sea view (we had upgraded for that). The room smelt of new carpet so I got the impression it had been newly refurbished. The bathroom hadn't been though and could probably do with it. They were clearly struggling with water pressure though as there was barely enough to come through the taps for much of our stay. Also on the second night there was no hot water. The room did have a nice spacious balcony with sating and a table. It was however near the function room below and was quite noisy on our first night as there seemed to be a large party going on below. We used the pool twice during our stay, it was nice and warm but tiny cramped changing facilities right on the pool side. They do provide towels free though.
The main restaurant seemed fairly deserted at night and I think people tended to just eat in the bar. We only ate breakfast in the end in the hotel which was fine although it's advisable to get down early as some pastry items run out quickly. My main issue was parking which is very limited. If you leave the hotel at night you will struggle to park on return. We ended up having to park some way from the hotel and when I went to retrieve the car in the morning it had damaged. I guess all in all the hotel was ok and reasonably priced for the facilities and location.

Well what a lovely welcoming hotel ! Checking in was super quick and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The room was lovely, with a smashing balcony and lovely bathroom. It was scrupulously clean and had everything you would want in a room. The bar area was spacious and the staff again very friendly. Breakfast was first class and the hot buffet was in abundance as was the tea, coffee, toast and the cold buffet, the fruit was so fresh ! In fact I would say this was the best breakfast I have had in a number of years ! The only thing wrong with breakfast were those guests who thought it appropriate to come down to breakfast in onesies, pyjamas and slippers, this was nothing to do with the hotel but more the bad manners of certain guests ! All in all I can thoroughly recommend this lovely hotel, and I will defiantly be coming back very soon, well done to everyone who works in this hotel for making it great ! Many thanks

Room Tip: 124 lovely balcony with a sea view

Just returned from an over night stay. The check in was good and the manager extremely helpful.
Our room was very small and dark (room 213) we needed to put lights on during the day. It was difficult to pull chair out at the dressing table as it was right at the end of the bed.
We had booked dinner and were told by the manager it wasn't in the restaurant but a sectioned off area of the bar, although the area was very pleasant it was spoiled by children screaming and shouting in the bar and running up and down while there parents did nothing about it.
We weren't the only people affected by the noise. A lady dining on her own ate her starter and when her main course came got the restaurant staff to put her meal on a tray so she could eat somewhere quieter. I did mention the problem to the assistant manager and she just said 'oh sorry'
Breakfast was ok, nothing special and all over cooked.
While the Rivieria offers good value, it's more 2 star than 3 star.
I will give it another try in the hope it was a bad day.

We were part of a party of about 80 for the weekend. The rooms were very clean and with comfortable beds. Food was very good. Plates were very hot and vegestable were served as a side order for each person. Great when you were sharing a table of 8. Only one lift that was a little tempremental, if you wanted the first floor, it insisted on going to the second floor before the first even when nobody was in the lift wanting 2nd floor, or waiting for it on the secon floor.

Room Tip: Not very accessible for less able if utilising the a function room, have to go outside and then in t...

We have just come back from a 5 day mystery coach holiday. It was a lovely surprise when we checked in to this hotel. Lovely big reception, lounge and dining room. They even laid on cream teas for us in the lounge while the suitcases were being taken off the coach. This also made it easier to check in at reception when we were ready, instead of trying to do it all together. The rooms were clean, bed comfortable and a good sized TV on the wall. Breakfasts were buffet service, hot and ample to choose from, cereals, porridge, fruit or full English . Dinners were hot, waiter/waitress service well cooked but not so ample quantities. There is a games room downstairs and we used the pool table and dart board. Also indoor swimming pool. All the staff we met were very friendly and so was the manager. The hotel location is on a hill and some rooms look out to sea. For the less mobile travellers it's not an easy walk down to the beach but once there you can get a bus back up that stops near the hotel road. There is a lovely wooded walk, once you get down a lot of steps, along Alun Chine either to the beach or the other way. Buses run every half hour into Bournemouth or Westbourne which is nearer.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a balcony that looks out to sea but haven't tried them.

Very friendly staff. Swimming pool was a bit run down but still fine for a splash about with the kids. Rooms were clean and nice area with the beach down the road. Breakfast was a help yourself and wasn't great quality but filled the kids up. We will stay again.

Visited for a weekend, Friday to Sunday. Well located for access to the west beaches but a long walk for little one into Bournemouth. With good weather however it isn't a chore.

The hotel is popular and all rooms are en-suite. Our room had a balcony and sea view. The room was a fair size and had flat screen TV, kettle and hair dryer. The en-suite was serviceable but a little dated in decor. The bed was comfy but only a small double.

The room did have a few drawbacks which although did not affect us directly could cause problems for others. These were:

The door to the room when opened gave full view of the bed to anyone in the corridor.

The balcony was obviously located next to others but you had full view into the other rooms as the was no modesty screen ( it would block the sea views).

The shower over bath was erratic with scalding water being delivered even when the hot tap nearly off. It would then switch to cold or very cold.

The staff on the main we're very helpful and chatty but not intrusive. The waiting and bar staff had the knack if remembering you which gave a welcoming atmosphere.

The General Manager (Jonathan) was always around and very attentive and approachable.

All in all, a well run hotel with what you would expect for a 3 star venue in Bournemouth. . It's outside of a national chain which is rare these days for a larger venue and this adds to its character.
