the elstead ....a stay on the beach for the night or here ? Well if it was 3 below I would have second thoughts about the beach at 3 in the morning.
The top and bottom of it is as stated in the reviews below .Dated decor and in desperate need of a face lift .
Blistering brick work and rust runs to the name down the rendered wall welcome you.
The knotted pine funiture and wallpaper to the bedrooms are not as expected for this class of hotel .
The bathroom although reasonably decorated, the obligatory 70's soup dispensors, give the game away as to the last date it was done.
Although the rooms were tidy at the rate of 109 pounds per night during August we expected better.
The staff obviously have difficulty with the english language and have customer services as a non essential requirement.
Ever paid up front at a hotel? You will here .Your card is charged prior to you ever seeing the room or the facilities.
Breakfast is run by an ex camp commandant and he needs a sever dose of chill pills.
Tables for breakfast are allocated to each guest room ,sorry i refer to guests there, inmates might be a better description.Woe betide you if you sit
at the wrong table at breakfast Eddie will track you down and read you the riot act and make sure you understand the unpublished hotel rules.A heanous crime!
This hotel is most definitely a summer season only facility .Service, accomodation and rates well below parr.
Our room was at the rear of the hotel ,directly above the noisy ventilation and airconditioning equipment .Dont get too excited aircon is not provided in
the rooms. But you do get a Punka fan and and equally bad taste central light fitting.
Sky TV was off during our stay so you get 4 TV channels and radio only.
The customer is right? Not here ,this is their hotel and they make you know it.
Parking? Every space full. Try the road no go there either. The hotel is not as near to the centre of Bournemouth as made out.Expect a decent walk .
The swimming pool and change facilities need a damn good clean with the mens showers riddled with mould and in a poor state.
Our advise stay elsewhere .There is so much better in Bournemouth on offer.Better rates ,better decor ,better staff ,better everything.

This sort of place will put you off staying again at what is a beautiful town .

The Elstead proved to be a comfortable hotel for a brief stay. Our room was at the front of the property and we had a twin room. It was nice and quiet and we were pleased with the location on a nice quiet pine tree lined road.

The bathroom was spacious, modern and clean. The decor was fine and we had comfortable beds too.

We didn't get a chance to use the pool as it was a flying visit, though we had a look downstairs and it looked ok.

The breakfast was fine. The lovely restaurant manager was witty and made my mother laugh: always a good thing! Was it worth the money we paid - probably and I would go back there when we visit Bournemouth again.

The bar area looked a bit old fashioned, but that is the type of hotel and normally I would be travelling with my hubby not my mum, hence the choice of hotel this time.

The Elsted is a victorian hotel that looks to have been extended in the 1970s. The decor is probably late 70's, early 80's and could probably do with a refresh.

The food in the restaurant is of a good qulity and well worth a try - usually a good stable english menu.

Staff are friendly

Small well equiped gym and swimming pool with sauna.

Handy for the town centre and travel interchange (5 minute walk).

Plenty of parking.

  • Liked — Good standard
  • Disliked — Some rooms used are geared up as diabled rooms - no good for the younger traveller

Just got back from a weekend at The Elstead. It is a charming hotel. The staff are really friendly and the rooms are well decorated and furnished, and everything is beautifully clean. The breakfasts were fresh cooked and delicious, and we ate in the bar both evenings and the food was very good indeed.

  • Liked — Friendliness of the staff and the food
  • Disliked — Busy roads between it and the Sea

Good points: quiet location in a residential street, plenty of car parking spaces, clean and comfortable room, numerous satellite tv channels, plentiful tea/coffee/biscuits in room, pleasant bar and veranda, varied bar/restaurant menus at reasonable prices, good breakfast choice and staff were polite and friendly

Not so good: the room was quite small but we did have the standard room - larger rooms are available, the hotel is about 10-15 minutes walk from the beach and town, ok if you're fit but might be a bit far for some elderly people, you can't see the sea from the hotel, the hotel's website booking didn't seem to be on a secure website!

Overall: would recommend this hotel as a good base to stay to visit Bournemouth and local area if you want reasonably priced and comfortable hotel accomodation.

  • Liked — Fairly priced, clean, good breakfast, quiet location
  • Disliked — Nothing in particular

Myself and my partner and 18 month old baby stayed here beginning Sept 07 on recommendation from the travel agents.

On arrival we were greeted with a couple of older ladies having a cigarette- was a hint of what was to come.

Room (which was a family room) was very spacious and clean and well equiped.

However decor was not to taste and could do with some moderniations in places.

Staff were friendly but hotel wasn't really geared up to young families and was more suited to older/retired people visiting Bournemouth.

Pool was nice and we took advantage of the free pool usage.

Overall a good basic hotel but feel it was overpriced for what we paid- £117 per night.

we have just returned from the Elstead Hotel, Bournemouth
Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice, clean room, but bathroom on small side, bit noisy at night with doors slamming
great idea to have iron/ironing board as it was in good use.

Eddie, head waiter was very proffesional, seem to work long hours.
Hotel too quiet in the evenings could do with some entertainment.

Would make a return visit some time
