“GAG THE MOANERS!!!!”
Reviewed 29 November 2011

I booked two nights away and just wanted cheap and cheerful. B&B and got it for £30.50 per night for two....what a bargain! Did not expect much judging from the reviews. However, it has been my experience that you can pay a considerable amount of money and still have hotels that are a little shabby around the edges. It seems to be indicative of the UK tourism industry which often lacks attention to detail. Likewise the British public sometimes seem to be verging on the insane. If you pay Skoda prices you are not going to get to drive a Bentley and this applies to most services available in the UK.
The Celebrity has a recently refurbished ground floor (restaurants, bars and reception). I was on the first floor in room 123. The corridors leading to the room had scuff marks on the wall, damaged worn carpets etc but the room was fine. Very clean, generally, bedding, bathroom and towels with plenty of hot water. The room was not huge but was more than adequate for our needs.
There were several things I really liked about this hotel. Firstly the staff were excellent, not just the front of house staff but the cleaners and everyone else we came into contact were very friendly and polite/helpful. The waitress staff were exceptionally attentive both in the breakfast room and the restaurant. The food in the restaurant was good value and high end both from the point of culinary and presentation. The breakfast was very good.
I also liked the little pamphlets detailing the history of the themed rooms and the hotel as well as the story of the ghost (although I wished I had not read that on the first night). The owners also share with us their plans for the future 10 year plan and what they had achieved to date. I would like to see it in a few years time as I am sure there will be a huge difference in the hotel generally, for the moment they have it completely right, good staff, clean facilities and great breakfast..outstanding value. They have shown they are not resting on their laurels, so if they get the rooms and corridors updated it will be perfect.
Finally, having watched the trip advisor documentary where some of the saddest species of the human population were shown, I say get a life. The person that complained about this hotel on this website tells us that you could not drink the water in the bathroom, this is true, but what they omitted to tell you was that Bournemouth is a hard water area (and I know all about that coming from a hard water area). It is quite clearly explained on a notice in the bathroom that a softener treatment has been added and therefore the water should not be drunk or used for babies bottles (it can be boiled in the kettle however) AND THAT THERE ARE WATER COOLERS IN THE CORRIDOR AVAILABLE FOR FRESH UNTREATED WATER. So what was the point of their complaint?
Likewise, overheard in the restaurant, a guest asked for (and I cannot remember just what) something like ‘spuds’, the waitress asked her to repeat it and for about half a second there was some confusion. When the waitress left the room another guest said to her husband/partner ‘What do you expect when you employ Eastern Europeans’? HOW OFFENSIVE, firstly spud is slang and not the correct term, secondly the waitress spoke and understood English perfectly well, thirdly unlike our own indigenous population waitressing is seen as an honourable endeavour by other nationalities and not something you do between proper jobs . Lastly, people who complain should learn how to communicate effectively in their mother tongue before they criticise people speaking in their second or third language.

I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants good value and outstanding service and will be retuning when the weather is a little more sunnier!!!! AND NOW I KNOW I CAN GET AN EVEN BETTER DEAL DIRECTLY ON THEIR WEBSITE.

Have just spent a couple of nights here, was a bit doubtful after some of the reviews, we stayed in one of the recently renovated rooms, the bed one of the best I have ever slept in wish I could have taken it home ! Bathroom a little dated and shabby but clean plenty of hot water . I requested extra pillows no problem , an ice bucket , and glasses too. As we were staying to go to a concert on sunday night that started at 7.30 pm we asked if was possible to order some sandwiches in advance to have when we returned after the usual food available time , again no problem and when we returned to the hotel at nearly midnight the night porter said oh yes sandwiches are ready for you here you go . Eva and Roberto very chatty and helpful members of the team. The only couple of negatives is that as the building is fairly old the sound insulation between the rooms is not that good and for me some of the comunal areas were uncomfortably hot. The location is great seven minutes walk from the BIC and pavillion theatre, enough parking and for Sherlock Holmes fans an extremely interesting guest lounge. Breakfast hot plenty of choice and have as much or as little as you like, downside the coffee but that is only me being picky. We had supper in the casablana resturant one night very generous portions freshly made salads were great, starters of homemade fishcakes were delicious and the presentation was very pleasing too. Would we go back ? Absolutely !

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room eg 254

We spent two nights at Hotel Celebrity for a short break in Bournemouth. It's a 10 minute walk from the train station and a short walk to the East Cliff lift which takes you straight down to the beach. From your room you can be on the sand in 10 minutes.

Good points: Value for money, food, location.
Bad points: The rooms are a bit shabby and the single room my mum stayed in was tiny, our TV reception was bad and there was a very loud group down the hallway - but that was just bad luck.

There's also a ghost apparently!

This is the first online review I have ever written and it`s been prompted by some of the ridiculously negative reviews on this site. I have had three short stays at the Hotel Celebrity recently and have found it to be a great value for money Hotel. Firstly the negatives, the building is not attractive from the outside and the car park has been full by late afternoon on all my stays, the floorboards do creak and some areas are dated but not unclean. But the positives are, the staff were superb, particularly the manager(unfortunately I didn`t get his name) who was clearly incredibly hard working and really helpful. The room was a good size and clean and the beds very comfortable. The restaurant was first class with a two course meal and a glass of wine for less than £14. The bars are a great place to relax with well priced drinks and good bar food. We paid less than forty pounds for a twin room and two excellent breakfasts, for this money you don`t get a five star hotel but you do get real value for money and the character you don`t find with the big Hotel chains.

We were greeted by friendly staff on Reception. The room decor was tired, although the bathroom looked recently redecorated, apart from the Shower Head not working and very little hot water at 5.30pm so we couldn't have a bath instead.
We ate in the restaurant, food was fabulous and portion sizes huge.
Only downside, our corridor had noisy occupants who didnt care about others when they came in 03.44am.
Overall, very nice hotel, would recommend if you dont mind a 3 star thats a little tired in places.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Very close proximity to beach, pier and town. Room was lovely, everything clean and fresh. All the staff including receptionist, waitresses and housekeepers were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was buffet style and was very nice. We had a lovely stay, our baby daughter slept very well. We would definitely use this hotel again. :))

We booked this last minute so did not expect much for the low price. However it was fantastic, great room, marvellous staff, really quirky and different. Well done! Lovely atmosphere and far better than the more expensive Premier Inn type hotels. If you are looking for clean, large rooms and excellent personal service this is for you. Not luxery but more than makes up for this in price and individuality.
