“DONT STAY HERE!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2010

The first thing that greeted us was the smell! I was staying here with my two daughters aged 24 and 14, it was a girly weekend going to see Peter Andre in concert. The cost was £75 b&b. The room was very tatty and tired, the shower room had expanding foam everywhere and was grubby, the shower mat was disgusting and going from white to brown! We decided to check in to the Travel Lodge which was just across the road as it was only £59 + £6.50 for eat as much as you like Breakfast KIDS EAT FREE. We got £45 of our money back from the Safari and legged it out of the Hell Hole. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not stay there if you hyave any standards at all. My daughter is also leaving a review with photos, have a look!!

Just returned from the Safari Bistro Hotel and it's an excellent budget hotel. Fantastic location within a five minute walk of all the centre of Bournemouth. The hotel is brilliant value for money at only £50 for a Friday night stay. The owners are friendly and made us feel welcome when we arrived. On site free car parking was a bonus as Bournemouth is not an easy place to find parking.
The rooms are basic but very clean and tidy. The shower lacked a little power but that was the only minor gripe I have.
The breakfast choice was better than many I have seen in much bigger hotels. Choose between Spanish, American, English or Dutch breakfasts. I went for the Spanish one with chorizo, spanish ommelet and tomato sala. It was yummy as looked the American version which my wife had waffles, streaky bacon and maple syrup.
All in all a real find and one we will use again when we go to the area.
the Safari offers budget accomodation with excellent service and a friendly smile, BRILLIANT

We stayed in the safair hotel on a friday night and had a lovely time. The beds were comfortable (which takes a lot for me to say!) As we were near the town i expected it to be a little noisy but was pleasntly surprised with not much noise at all! The breakfast was very unusal as we had choices from all over the world, i had the american breakfast with waffles and maple syup and bacon and it was beautiful but you can choose from spanish, dutch, english and american.
The owners were extremley friendly and made us feel very welcome.

I would reccomend this hotel as it is very close to the town and some lovely restaurants and bars as well.

This hotel was advertised as luxury with tastefully decorated rooms! Well there was nothing of luxury about it and as for the decor, when was it done last, it was awful!! Our double glazed windows didn't shut properly as they needed attention, so we found it very noisy until the early hours. The food wasn't up to standard. We were so disappointed we checked out after one night (having paid for 2) and booked in elsewhere.
Be warned it's cheap and chearful, don't expect much for your money. Definately not recommended.

Dirty little hotel. On arrival the place looked small and a bit unkempt, but i have stayed at hotels in Bournemouth before and they all look a bit worn in places so we decided to give the place a chance.

The reception was dusty, old fashioned and very tiny. It was literally a cupboard under the stairs! The hotel owner checked us in (we paid upfront - first mistake) and then gave us the key to our room.

When we opened the door to our room we immediately notice the awful overpowering smell of stale cigarette smoke. It was so bad we had to open the window. The smell must have been embedded in the carpet, which was in an horrendous state. I would not have dared to walk barefoot on it as it was so filthy.

The furniture (two old and very stained office chairs and a tired chest of drawers) was very uninspiring. We actually pulled down the bed sheets as we were worried at what we might find! On inspecting the bathroom my partner retched in disgust as the sink was absolutely full of what looked like hair and fluff emptied from an electric razor. We immediately decided we could not stay in this filthy room and reported it to the hotel reception. The excuse was the carpet had been cleaned and the dirt emptied into the sink but had not been rinsed away. We found this hard to accept as the carpet looked like it had never been cleaned before and felt that if it had been cleaned, it would have been much more hygienic to empty the dirt into the toilet rather than the sink. The gentleman at reception was horrified at the state of the sink and immediately gave us a key to another room.

The second room, on first inspection immediately looked much cleaner and smelt fresher than the first. However the bathroom sink was filthy; stained with a red substance that looked like rust. As I filled the kettle to prepare a hot beverage the tap spurted out discoloured water which we believe must have come from rusted pipes. After several minutes, the water in the hot tap still hadn’t run clear and was only lukewarm. A similar test with the shower proved our water would be too cold and dirty to have a comfortable shower in.

Another cause for concern was the rather nice modern pine double bed, which actually cracked under my weight as i sat on it. Im not light but im no elephant either! On inspection under the bed we saw the wood on the main support beam had split and we decided to report this to reception as we were worried the bed collapsed on us during the night. The lady in reception gave us a key to another room. We asked if we could inspect the room first as we had been so unhappy with the condition of the first two. The bed in this room was much more stable (2 singles pushed together), the bed sheets and general living area (carpet and chairs) were reasonably clean (for Bournemouth). We checked the water, which appeared ok and were reasonably satisfied with the room.

However, later that evening when we came to run the water for a bath, the bath filled up with discoloured, light brown water. It was too disgusting to bathe in so we did not wash properly for the three days we stayed in Bournemouth, and didnt dare drink the water. The toilet seat and, indeed the floor in the bathroom were uneven and the light switch for the bathroom was hanging out of the ceiling which concerned us for safety standards.

We would have looked for alternative accommodation had it not been a busy Bank Holiday weekend (hard to find anywhere available in Bournemouth on a Bank hol) and if we had not already paid for the room we might just have gone back home.

I have never stayed in such a dirty, unkempt hotel and was unsurprised to find it has actually appeared on the TV program, "Hotel Inspector". They have obviously not been listening to her advice, thats all i can say!

  • Liked — The fact i'd only booked 2 nights
  • Disliked — The dirtiness, uninspiring decor and tainted water
