We spent a lovely weekend in Bournemouth and found the Ullswater to be a reasonable place to stay. The reception staff were very helpful, the waiting staff hard-working and the bedroom clean, tidy and OK.
Certainly the short walk to the beach was very convenient indeed and reception provided a free map to help us get around.
If I were to point in a direction for attention, it would be the food quality. Don't get me wrong, it was generally fine, but one meal was overly greasy and another overly salty. We politely raised our concern that the milk smelled a little off, but we were politely told that we were wrong (!)
Hmmmmm.
Anyway, overall, things were nice. Oh - and a table tennis table and a MASSIVE snooker table available for guests too. Splendid.

Was greeted as soon as we entered the hotel by friendly staff, everything was explained to us- including what entertainment we could find in the local gardens. Our room was nice and big with a travel cot provided for the baby.
The food was lovely, and plenty off it. The staff were all friendly, always happy and quick to serve you. I would recommend this hotel and would definitely consider returning !

Second stay for me at this hotel,Visited with my partner,daughter,son-in-law and three granchildren,I have to say the sevice was always with a smile. All staff speak very good english (sorry but your very wrong bdf bobby, 16th july ) we were made to feel very welcome. the rooms (30 and 42) were comfortable and clean. The hotel is a little dated but for a 2 star hotel and the money we paid for bed, breakfast and evening meal we certainly got value for money,The bar is well stocked, quiet and comfortable but the entertainment is aimed at the over 65 age group so is not for the stag and hen do parties.(when you have children holidaying with you this is a bonus not a negative) And i will just add that you really must try the cheese cake it is delicious

This was the first time my Husband and I had stayed at this Hotel and enjoyed every minute of it. We booked for 2 weeks and our room was very nice indeed and the bed was comfortable, the cleaning staff were very friendly and our bed was made every day and towels were changed if you needed them. The waiting on Staff in the dining room were excellent and if you had a problem they sorted it right away, they were very friendly and good at their job. The Management and Reception Staff were very nice and if you had any problems they sorted it. I must comment on a previous review about the not so friendly Dog comment, I was there at the time and wondered how on earth someone could leave a dog in a room and it clearly was distressed at being left in a strange place it was barking and really howling. If the dog was happy at being left then it would not have kicked up a fuss, this person must ask themself a question are they themselves Dog friendly. Didn't let it spoil my holiday, the hotel is ideally situated near to beach and a short walk to bus route if needed. I can highly recommend this hotel, only wish we could have stopped longer still we know where to stay in the future. Thankyou Ullswater

Many thanks for your kind review, and taking time to write it!
Its always nice to receive nice positive feedback as so many people get on with their lives after having a good experience whether it be a restaurant hotel etc. which is fine as that should be the case.
It would be good to hear other positive points such as yours as we are (after all a popular hotel.
Unfortunately, we do find that most negative reviews are from people who book via the internet and expect everything for a low amount-best rooms, 5 star service, a la carte, huge breakfasts etc. without paying 5 star prices. When we are are compared to a lot of other hotels the value for money aspect is always high as we are only 250 yards from the beach, provide free parking and free wi-fi ( that a lot of 4star + hotels charge for!)close to town, have excellents chefs etc etc.- but still people want to find something to have a good moan about -luckily others amongst us have better things to do!
Once again , many thanks and we are glad you had a great time -and look forward to seeing you again.

Am so surprised by the very negative comments from "Dog Friendly" I Have stayed at this lovely hotel on several occasions. The owners and all of the staff very welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Food is excellent and plentiful. The rooms are lovely and the beds are comfortable. The cleaning staff maintain a high standard keeping everywhere spotlessly clean. The owners really care about their guests and do all that they can to ensure that each guest's stay is a happy one. I can only surmise that as the dog was barking and possibly disturbing other guests that the suggestion to" put the dog in the car" a familiar place, until they had finished their meal, was made from wanting to ensure that everyone was kept happy. I will certainly be returning to the hotel to enjoy everything there. I would suggest that the "Dog Friendly" people should be staying in a 5 star hotel for the services they require. Ullswater is a 2 star hotel and for the rates charged it is superb value for money.

I booked to stay with my husband a little doggy as it was supposed to be a dog friendly hotel. Well how wrong was we. Our first night we left our little tettier in our room to go for dinner only to be asked to go back upstairs as he was barking. We were told to put him in the car. Room service was pathetic. WE had to go down to collect our sandwiches. The room was grubby, smelly with stains all other even the roof.....made us want to sleep in the car with the dog ! Most of staff dident speak english.
If you have to stay here then i feel so very sorry for you. Better still ....'STAY AT HOME'.

Many thanks for your review, which we found "interesting"
Prior to arrival you rang my wife to discuss your intended stay as you were reticent about taking your pet (your little tettier as you refer to him) away as he had not stayed anywhere before and you were uncertain how he would adapt.
My wife explained that whilst we accept well behaved dogs, they are not allowed in the public areas ( restaurant, bar etc) as this could be construed as unhygenic and is also standard practice.
Your little tettier was barking loudly the whole time whilst you were in the restaurant to the extent we were getting complaints from other guests, and we have also found that dogs that are unhappy to be left alone cause damage to the rooms by scratching the doors and ruining the bed linen. That is why certain large rooms are kept aside for dog owners.
Our Manger suggested putting tettier in your car on the third evening due to more continued loud barking whilst you ate dinner, as that may have calmed him down.
In addition to this you will recall that the staff you also slated for not speaking english which is total fabrication as they all do ( albeit with accents) had to continaully clean up your dogs no 1 due it continually passing water as soon as it reached the front door.
May we point out that our staff -whilst being of differing nationalities besides english, all do speak good english and can also write very good english unlike some!
We accept dogs weekly and would honestly say that your experience was most likely caused by the stress of having a dog that was and probably ever will like being left alone.
However. if you want future holidays then a kennel is best recommended!
