“Another Excellent Stay”
Reviewed 2 April 2014 via mobile

We visit Bournemouth regularly and always stay at the Royal Exeter. It offers great value for money, secure car parking, excellent freshly cooked breakfasts, friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable accommodation. We ate in the 1812 restaurant and can thoroughly recommend the quality of food. The hotel is also across the road from the BIC and a 5 minute walk to the sea.

The purpose of our trip was to attend a concert at the BIC so we required a hotel close by and this is just across the road. The Hotel is magnificent and we had a wonderful room on the first floor in line with the 1812 Bar. We had been warned that as it was a Saturday, and they have music in the Bar until approximately 1 a.m., it could be noisy and we were given the option of swapping rooms, although the alternative room would not be as grand. We thought we would be okay but on returning from the BIC at about 11 p.m. discovered the noise was a little louder that we had anticipated. I went to Reception to ask if the offer to swap was still open and the young gentleman accompanied me back to our room and carried our luggage up to the top floor towards the rear of the Hotel. It was a smaller room but just as comfortable and afforded us a good night's sleep. Breakfast on Sunday could not be surpassed with cooked and continental breakfasts on offer, and the cooked portions were more than generous. The croissants were larger and tastier than any I have eaten in France. The Hotel arranged a taxi and help with our luggage down to Reception and when it came time to pay the bill this had discounted by the sum of £25 to make up for having to change rooms. We could not fault this hotel at all and would love to return - perhaps not on a Saturday night, though! They also have a gym, sauna and jacuzzi available to all guests for free.

We visited this hotel midweek using the Travel zoo offer which was great value for money . The greeting at reception was excellent and the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful . Our room 110 had a wonderful Kingsize bed and was spacious and clean . The hotel is old but has been well maintained and kept its character . It is well positioned in the centre of Bournemouth opposite the bic centre and within easy reach of the pier and town . It has the added advantage of free parking and Wifi . You must try one of their excellent cocktails prepared by professional bar tenders and take advantage of the great value during happy hour.
The breakfast is extensive and the staff went out of their way to see that all your requirements were met . The set dinner menu only changed by one item from one night to another whilst we were there limiting choice .
Overall this is an excellent hotel and well above the standard of many other Bournemouth hotels we have stayed in .

This was our 2nd visit to Royal Exeter Hotel our 1st day was good but think this was better.
We had a nice room, very clean with everything you needed.
Check in was very good and staff very friendly and helpful.
We was told it could be a little loud late at night, but we had our window open all night and didn't hear anything.
Only down side we found the room a little warm even with the window open during the night.
Breakfast was good and plenty of it if you wanted.
Free parking as well.
We had a great weekend and would go back to this hotel.

We too stayed 16 March on the Travelzoo deal £69 for bed breakfast and 3 course evening meal. The hotel was old but majestic. Our room was above the bar terrace and were not bothered by any noise. Every one of staff were very friendly and helpful. The evening meal was delicious and the ambiance in the restaurant was lovely. Breakfast was hearty with plenty of choice. We could not fault our stay and would definitely return even without the fantastic deal!

Room Tip: We had a corner room with double aspect.

Stayed for one night. Having read previous reviews we did ask about bar noise as our room was above the bar and told No there was no music that night. The music actually went on till five to one so obviously the reception did not know about the bar area during the evening. The windows were single glazed so a lot of road noise plus the central heating was very noisey. The food was good and staff very friendly. If you do stay ask for a room away from the bar area although that will not help with road noise.

We also stayed at the Royal Exeter Hotel on the Travelzoo deal. What unbelievable value! Eva on reception was extremely helpful when we booked by phone and even remembered speaking to my partner on the phone when we booked in. The meal in 1812 was fantastic especially the belly pork and my honey and rosemary parfait dessert. Also in the cocktail bar I had a fantastically mixed Mojito which, it has to be said, would be hard pushed to beat the ones that I've sampled in Cuba. The breakfast was also very good with plenty of choices. Al staff that we encountered were very friendly, helpful and courteous. You couldn't wish for a better location with also the added bonus of parking being included. We will definitely be returning to the Royal Exeter!
