This is a gem of a restaurant in a rather unfortunate setting. It is in Boscombe, Bournemouth, which frankly is not the most salubrious part of the town, so I would never have considered this restaurant had it not been for an unusual set of circumstances. A friend who wasn't familiar with the area stated working nearby and suggested lunch here. Well, what a find! The food is amazing. I would describe the cuisine as Morrocan/Sicillian/North African style. Also the restaurant appears very clean.
The very nice owner talks you through the 9 of so dishes of the day and when you have chosen, he makes up the most fantastic meze style plate of food to complement the main dish. The dishes are typically a couple of different curries, a lemon marinated chicken tagine, a fish dish such as salmon baked with spices, aubergine parmigiana and meatballs. He then makes up a plate with around 10 different little yummy side dishes, such as saffron rice, marinated artichokes, tabouleh, pureed cumin sweet potato, tomato salad, dressed new potatoes, marinated red cabbage and grilled dressed peppers to name just a few. All for £6.50.
Its a positive explosion of flavour and so different from anywhere else I have eaten. My friend and I visited again with our partners and the lads loved it too. Its now become a favourite for a weekend lunch. If you visit in the summer, his home made lemonade is a must. Its completely GORGEOUS! Its quite grown up food, so to be honest, I wouldn't take kids here unless they have a sophisticated palate. Give this place a whirl for lunch-I think you will be amazed!
