“First Visit”

We stayed here on Saturday for two nights, as I was visiting my Son who lives in Bournemouth.
Yes it is a bit dated, but it is being renovated as this was advised when we booked.
Other than an initial wait with the check in, everything was great.
Very impressed with the staff they were very attentive at all times.
We stayed in room 204 which had a zip bed ( downside) and the bathroom did have mould around the shower screen,
The breakfast was very good and fantastic quick service.
Overall we had a lovely stay and would come here again, when I visit my son

Stayed overnight at this hotel. Had no fault at all. Hotel is located close to all amenities. Staff very friendly. Rooms were clean. Small problem as shower door was sealed, found it difficult to adjust water temperature. Breakfast variety was good. We had full English which was excellent. Look forward to staying here again!

I like this hotel and often use it when visiting my son in Bournemouth. It is quiet, clean and perfectly sited for parents visiting their kids at University. It is also close to sand and sea. Or a short stroll to O'Neills for a pint of stout! Parking is free and easy. The rooms I have been allocated have been comfortable and sensibly priced. Breakfast is hearty and the poached eggs benedict are scrumptious.

The staff members are welcoming too but above all it is the best value for money in town and I have stayed in nearly all the budget hotels!

Room Tip: The quietest rooms are away from the road

We live locally but just love a night away in a hotel and are working our way through Bournemouth just for pleasure.Arrived in the Orchid early at 1.10 and were surprised to be told byfriendly receptionist that our room would be ready in just ten minutes. Beautiful sunny day so just got ourselves a drink from the bar and sat in the courtyard. Room 206 was allocated as we had asked for top floor with view. A bit like a students apartment rather than a hotel but nevertheless spacious, clean and everything we needed. The only problem I had was that the glass shower door was glued onto the bath! I could not adjust the tap settings without physically getting in the shower first therefore getting either soaked with clothes on or scalded then frozen without. Also there was no hand rail to get in and out which was certainly a safety issue and really needs to be addressed before our next stay. Yes! Of course we'll go back. Breakfast was tranquil, very well organised and most enjoyable. Location was superb. Thanks :)

Dear arm1964,

It's great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Room 206 (similar to our room 306) has a bit of a different layout than most of our rooms and is slightly larger than the average room.

We will look into your concerns regarding the bath panel and rail, and we are looking forward to welcoming you back to the Orchid hotel.

Kind regards,

The Orchid Hotel

Have recently returned from a staying at the Orchid Hotel. We mainly chose the hotel for the price that we was offered for a two night stay with bed and breakfast. I was a little concerned about going due to the reviews.
As we arrived at the hotel there was no parking due to a function going on but later parking spaces where available. We stayed in room 202 and was clean and well presented, we was on the lower floor and had a view of the courtyard. The room was cosy but got hot at night so turned the radiator off. We would have ask to move if there was an evening function happening due to noise levels. The bathroom was clean but there was a few issues with damp on the ceiling due to the extractor fan not working and there was a hole in the bath panel, which needs replacing.
The bed was okay, but not the best night’s sleep we have had. Could feel the springs in the mattress. The pillows for us where very hard but could be okay for someone else.
There was plenty to choose from for breakfast. Plenty of cercal, juices, fruit, yogurts ect. The cooked breakfast was very tasty we choose the Full English which was with pork and leek sausages. Only complaint for breakfast is that some food has been standing under heaters and wasn’t very hot but was still a very good quality breakfast.
The staff where pleasant but English wasn’t their first language so was sometimes found it very hard to understand what you were asking. We asked for advice on where they could suggest for somewhere to eat as celebrating an anniversary and they were unable to suggest any thing, which we found a little disappointing.
The hotel is currently have a re vamp but there are workman around but we didn’t mind this.
The location of the Orchid is a 2 minute walk to the cliff top and around a 10 minute walk into town. If we was visiting Bournemouth again we would stay here again.

The hotel was gorgeous from the outside and the lobby and eating area was very nice too. Room was slightly outdated but I know that the hotel is currently going through renovation. The WiFi worked perfectly from the bedroom and so did the shower. Breakfast was great - choice of hot breakfast and/or a buffet of cereals, yoghurt, croissants etc. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Can't understand the bad reviews - its great value for money! Would stay here again and recommend it, unless you are expecting a luxury room.

Very dated but clean. We booked two rooms both of which had such dim lighting which I assume was to disguise the grotty furnishings. On first look the bed was large, we then realised it was two singles pushed together. Mattresses are so old they have permanent dents in them. Covers clean but tatty. No spare pillows or blankets. Pillows as well worn as the mattresses.
Air con not working. Rad in bathroom not working which left bathroom like a fridge. Heater in room hanging off the wall next to the wonky wardrobe.
Bathroom clean but dated, scruffy and mouldy in places.
Beds and mattresses left in corridors.
Breakfast took ages to arrive although not busy then was tinned tomatoes. Milk and juice left in full sun. Bar and waiting staff very good friendly and smiley dispute being on night and morning shifts- well done.
Receptionist not great on arrival then capped it off by leaving a message accusing us of taking one of the room keys. Eventually after I rang back to say we left them both together on the desk she rang to apologise saying she found it on the floor. Why we would want a room key for such a hideous room is beyond me but this just finished off a very unsatisfactory stay. Totally overpriced for what we got.
Most staff good and place was clean but avoid unless everywhere else booked up.
Pictures on website must be for a different hotel or for just one room. To describe this as a boutique hotel puts a very different meaning to the one I understood. Budget would be a better description but below travel lodge quality.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere

Dear Edders2907,

We appreciate your feedback regarding your stay with us at the Orchid Hotel, which seems to have left you very dissatisfied. I admit there are some valid points in your review of the hotel and will be sorted over the next few weeks with the ongoing refurbishment.

I will not go into too much detail, but we do have several ZIP link rooms (2 single beds pushed together). The Air con is not working yet as they are in the process of installing them. We do not serve tinned tomatoes, in fact only the beans are from a tin and we pride ourselves in cooking everything fresh hence it sometimes takes a little longer for the breakfast to arrive.

I’m very sorry to hear you found you were being “accused” as my receptionist merely wanted to check what happened to the key. Unfortunately it happens that guests forget to drop of the key in reception.

We encourage any guest staying with us, unhappy with the room they are given, to let us know right away. There is not much I can do days after departure and anything I would do now will not change your previous stay with us at the Orchid Hotel.

Kind regards,
The Orchid Hotel
