“Still Searching for a Great Hotel”
Reviewed 10 November 2012

I've been to Bournemouth several times and I'm still searching for a great hotel. The Menzies is not that hotel, but it has many good points that made my stay enjoyable.

My room was on the second floor facing the ocean. The room was quite large, with a small desk, and couch. The view of the ocean from the bay windows was wonderful. The room also had a small porch, but the weather was rainy and cool, so I didn't make much use of it except on the day the Olympic torchbearer and parade came by! (It was a surprise to me.)

I was there for pleasure but also had to get some work done. The Internet connection proved to be quite adequate although it is set up to drop every two hours and requires a login to get back on. A charming feature of most British hotels is the tea service in the room. The Menzies setup included coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and cookies which were refreshed each day.

The room was very clean, although the furnishings and rug were a bit worn. The cleaning staff was some of the best and most efficient I've seen. However, the bar and restaurant staff were some of the most inefficient I've seen.

I was reminded of Fawlty Towers one day as I stood waiting to order lunch at the bar only to be passed over by the server when three local business men in expensive-looking suits showed up. The server ignored me and jumped to attend to them. I ended up walking to another hotel for lunch. This wasn't an isolated incident. The bar staff routinely were either nowhere to be found or if there, didn't seem to want to work.

Great location (close to town and beach) with stunning views.

It was clear that the room we were given had been recently refurbished to a high standard, making the room extremely comfortable, in particular the huge bed.

The staff at Menzies were extremely friendly and did everything possible to ensure that we enjoyed are stay - will definitely be going back!

My partner and I had a four day holiday starting Friday the 26th of October. We love Bournemouth and area and wanted somewhere nice to stay as our base. Via telephone we shopped around a number of hotels and chose the East Cliff Court because of the very attractive deal offered and the person we spoke to was very polite and helpful. We were not disappointed! On arrival we were greeted and booked in by a very nice young lady who made us most welcome. The bedroom was delightful, obviously recently refurbished with mirrors everywhere, and a lovely flat screen TV. The bathroom was spacious with a nice strong shower for a change- I always seem to have bad experiences with hotel showers! Breakfast was to die for and what a range! Buffet style, we always went for full English with lovely lean bacon followed by loads of toast and marmalade. However you could also have crossoints and pastries, cheeses, ham etc. The bar was a delight in the evening, great atmosphere, meeting other guests and great service. We only had one dinner as we enjoy going out to restaurants but the food was excellent. Hotel staff were helpful and attentive throughout our stay. To conclude, this was a great short break for us with the East Cliff Court Hotel playing a major part in this memorable holiday. A Hicks

A wonderfully fresh, spacious room, recently refurbished and a great place to relax as part of busy schedule; very impressed. We were able to meet informally within the hotel, prior to attending appointments elsewhere within Bournemouth. Love the complimentary 'sweet rock'!

We only stayed one night to attend the Neil Sedaka concert, and chose this hotel because it offered a great rate compared with others. Our stay was excellent, the room was luxurious, very spacious, warm and clean, with above average refreshments - water, biscuits etc., included. Oddly, the deep ledge of the skirting in the corridor outside was very dusty - only notable because it was clearly visible! Maybe from recent building work as it was certainly not the case elsewhere!
We had drinks in the bar after returning form the concert and ordered sandwiches, the only negative in this review! One sandwich of tuna and red onion had almost no tuna and no onion at all, its replacement, with many apologies, still had no onion included. Sandwiches where served with salad and crisps and presented nicely, but given the excellent attention to detail and service elsewhere was a suprising disappointment.
Breakfast is buffet style and the choices are amazing, even two types of bacon! Excellent service despite the hotel being full and very busy, staff are obviously well trained and happy, always smiling, courteous and friendly.
The hotel is very easy to find and has its own car park, its close to most of the main attractions including the seafront and the BIC.
Highly recommended!

We had our Wedding at the here last weekend and the hotel was faultless. The staff could not have done any more for us and they worked tirelessly to make us happy with smiles on their faces

We had a small lunchtime Civil Ceremony with 18 family guests and a buffet/disco in the evening for 140. The function rooms were great, particularly the one for the ceremony with fantastic sea views. The food at lunchtime and the evening was excellent and we had many complimentary comments from our guests

Overall our party took about 25 rooms on the Saturday night and all seemed very satisfied with the quality for the rooms and price

Highly recommended for a stay or a special function

I visited this hotel with my students as part of a learning exercise and could not have been more impressed. The hotel public areas and rooms were spotless and well appointed. The staff were most helpful and extremely knowledgable about the hotel and local area. My students received a very warm welcome and staff were passionate about the work we and they were doing.

The hotel has a modern feel with additional touches of elegance that make the guest feel very special. I was impressed by the conference facilities and would highly reccomend this to businesses. The location is superb, overlooking the Bournemouth Bay, great place to be. The Menzies Carlton is right next door and so guests can benefit from all their facilities as well which is lovely.

We did not eat this time but I will be soon because we did look at menus and they were very tempting. I have every confidence the standards here will be equally high.

Natasha and Stephanie assisted us this time and were so helpful and obliging, I am extremely grateful for their expertise and enthusiasm.

Well done to all

Room Tip: All rooms very high standard and many recently refurbished.
