While in Bournemouth, we looked for something cheap to sleep and come across this property. What a good surprise! A tiny and clean room for 3 people in a historic building for a ridiculous price! We do recommend this property for its closeness to the main atractions of the city, a real gem.

Booked this late but based on a certain web site which said it was three stars but self classified, whatever that means. TIP - book direct through the hotel as Laterooms were asking us to pay a discounted price which was still £10 more than the hotels' maximum price! The price was very cheap for a three star (the Best Western Hotel Royale just up the road costs two thirds as much extra per night so in hindsight that should have been a clue.

My wife wasn't too impressed on first impressions and this was made worse when informed politely by a lady the room wouldn't be ready until 1500 when prior to arrival we were told it would be ready for 1300.

After a short walk to the beach, we returned and went to our room. It was a large room with a double bed, single bed and a fold out bed but these were suitable for our children aged eight and four. The room had an old fashioned character (with sash windows and old furniture) but it was clean and must have been decorated with new wallpaper fairly recently. The TV wasn't working so a quick word with a member of staff meant a message was left with the owner. We went out for a walk and on our return it had been fixed. We were a little disappointed in that it only had BBC1 and 2, ITV1 and Channel 4 which meant the kids couldn't watch cBeebies and CBBC which could have been useful if the weather was bad. The bathroom was small with a shower cubicle. Unfortunately, the hot tap at the sink didn't seem to offer anything other than lukewarm water but the shower was fine? Although the weather wasn't fabulous, the room wasn't cold.

Breakfasts were basic but suitable for most with a choice of cereals, toast on demand and a full English if you wanted it.

The staff were very helpful and Alan the owner was super.

My wife and I have mixed feelings because we thought we were expecting to stay in a more upmarket hotel. As a budget hotel, it's great and the location is super, literally less than ten minutes walk from the beach and town centre. If we'd have booked knowing it was a budget hotel, our expectations would have been a lot less. Our children loved it and as long as they're happy, that's good for us.

It makes it difficult to give a review as we've not been in a budget hotel for a while. It certainly wasn't awful, the staff were good and took an interest in the children, it has a great location and the food was ok. If we were on a tight budget, we'd return but at least we'd know what to expect a second time.

The first thing to state is that the only reason the Gervis Court "Hotel" can call itself a hotel is because there is a carousel of tinned nuts and sweets in the entrance hall. Basically, this is a large B and B which calls itself a hotel to charge hotel prices. They do not offer any extended hotel services including evening meals, reception etc. If you are looking for a traditional hotel experience, this is not the place for you.

However, this does not make this a bad place. What makes it a sad place is the lack of care that is going in to the running of this place.

The outside area is very disorganised with general garden flotsam all over the back car park. The signage is very dated and part of the sign is snapped off. Not a bad thing and quite superficial but the first sign that there doesn't appear to be any love in the running of the place.

The entrance hall is gloomy, dark and old fashioned. The general decor is very old fashioned with attempts to update it with stylish modern pictures making it very confused.

The room I stayed in was a good size but again an attempt had been made to update it. Again it came across very confused. The bathroom has varying degrees of mold on the ceiling, floor and shower area. As mentioned before by another reviewer, after coming back to the room after a clean there was a very overpowering smell of bleach and disinfectant.

The bed was clean looking and comfy but again the general furniture was very old.

Breakfast........in all the hotels I stay in for work I have never been able to read exactly what I will have for breakfast....very poor. The "many" cereals consist of loads of boxes of Frosties, Rice Krispies, muesli and Weetabix. The cooked breakfast is quite a let down. Cheap beans, 1 piece of bacon, one small and cheap tasting sausage and cold toast. Even the coffee was awful. Even the crockery is old fashioned and quite tacky looking.

There are some good points.......it is free parking, quite close to the front and there is free WiFi...although it is very slow.

Personally there are cheaper and better value places in Bournemouth that The Gervis Court Hotel. It could be great but the feeling it that it is simply a cash cow.

We payed £120 for 2nights.Rang spoke to Alan booked over the phone. It looked bit tatty on arrival. The front garden was tidy, Half dead pot plants leading up to front door. The staff seemed polite, but I didn't meet Alan till I pay'd to leave. Our room was dated, odd lamps that were stained. Just all a bit dated and old. The kettle was on the floor. We were not very exicited about unpacking. The bedding was clean and fresh. The whole look of the place really felt more like student digs.If you do decided to stay here re-new your towels daily bacause they don't dry very well. Lot's of old plastic flowers in hallways!! Breakfast was served well, but we can't brush over the fact that it was cheap too. The beans and toast were cheap rubbish. This must have been a once lovely place but now just a money cow! location was great, parking was available and free. We will return to Bournmouth it seemed a great place but definatly not staying here, far too over priced and not very welcoming.

We stayed here for two nights while vsiting Bournmouth & other places around the area. The room is about average size with charming furniture, but its old & can't put nothing in them as the drawers as too small & wardobe diffcult to open. The bed was uncomfortable & carpet had seen better days. The bathroom was also a big as the bedroom with a good shower & nicely done out.
Breakfast was fine & nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the beach, bars & shops.
Overall this hotel was okay & would stay again.

Booked after looking at pictures an reviews on Internet, Pictures are deceiving.

When we arrived the door was locked we rang the bell and a girl came and let us in the hall was dark, grubby and smelly no reception, she took us to a very small room with a three quarter bed jammed up against a wall room was in need of redecoration she gave us a key and left.

We requested a change of room and for £12 extra given a was bigger room with a double and a single bed the room had at least been painted cream with a new carpet but the en-suite was the smallest I have ever seen, the shower was mouldy, shower head was broken the tray dirty ( had to put a plastic bag in to stand on) and the smell from the shower drain was unbearable and we could not use until we had purchased a very strong bottle of disinfectant. There were two small towels, not big enough for a shower and you had to step out of the en-suite because it was to small too dry yourself.

There was no hairdryer and the TV was a small portable (same in the first room) although the Internet picture shows a flat screen on the wall. The light switch for the light over the bed was loose and looked as if it was about to fall off.

There was four maltesers on the floor under the radiator these were still there when we left.

I suffer from arthritis and did not know what to do with myself during the night the bed very uncomfortable and the springs stuck into you. I had to get up in the end due to the pain.

The breakfast was poor 1 sausage poor quality (did not eat) 1 slice of fatty bacon 1 undercooked egg (although I said I did not want one. A few backed beans (cold) and half tomato also cold and toast if you can call it that it must have been in and out of the toaster in seconds and it was obvious the cheapest bread you could get.

We we booked over the phone the man that answered was very friendly said they did not have single sex groups. I was horrified when we arrived and under the hotel sign it said contracts welcome.

I am glad it was only two nights any longer we would have moved some were else.

Stayed at the Gervis court hotel for two nights and I'm glad it was'nt longer...

We were greeted at the door by one of the staff, who I have to say, are friendly and welcoming. We were shown to our family room which I would imagine used to be a reception room when the house was first built.

The first thing we noticed was the smell, not particularly strong but it definately had the odour of an old people's home.

There was a double bed, a single bed and a made up matress on the floor. The matress on the double was very uncomfortable.

The shower room (i use the term loosely) was grubby and the shower fitting was broken so you had to hold it whilst showering.

The full english breakfast was nice but a bit small (1 sausage, 1 bacon, beans, fried egg and a tomato), I had to supliment it with a couple of rounds of toast!

Decent location (5 mins walk to the cliff which also had a lift). The beach is great, golden and sandy. We had some lovely weather so it got very busy.

I will definately be returning to Bournmouth, but I will look for alternative accomodation. I'd rather pay a few extra quid for more comfort.
