“no welcome, poor attitude”
Reviewed 26 February 2013

On arrival of our large-ish party not one of us was offered a smile or a welcome. The manageress barely opened the door for the party only demanding to know who was in charge, immediately making the guests feel like a group of school children and not paying customers. The next demand came of £25 per person deposit, the amount of money for such a hotel is not only unreasonable but made the guests, again, feel like children of whom they expect to do damage.
We made our way up the 3 flights of scruffy, dated carpeted stairs holding onto the broken handrail which was falling off the wall;a worrying health and safety omen. On arrival into the rooms we found them freezing, with missing lightbulbs, dirty crockery and hairs from the previous occupants shave in the cup in the bathroom. Unfortunately the lack of cleanliness didn't end there, one of our rooms had a broken toilet which had caused quite a smell throughout the room and landing, the bedsheets (duvet, pillows, mattress) were spotted with stains, the water in our bathroom ran yellow and spluttered and finally no soap was left in the bathroom. Having no soap in the bathroom is truly unhygienic and does not help relieve the unease one felt in the hotel.
Onto the bar, we were joined watching the match by expensive drinks and the landlady who also enjoyed watching the game and reclining in front of her customers.
The icing on the cake was that although the staff could be completely rude to us the stag party who shouted and shouted til 5 am were left to there own devices while the other customers suffered. ( we heard it be mentioned but other parties at breakfast). Which was fine and hearty.

Difficult to find any good or even adequate level of cleanliness or customer service, which I regretfully have to admit. I would not recommend.

I recently had the misfortune to stay at the kensington hotel in bournemouth on a coach trip staying 4 nights in room 22 which was not a large room but was of adequate size. This hotel was typical of some (but not all)you find on coach trips being a bit tired and in need of some TLC.On arrival day my wife took a shower, put hair conditioner etc on and the shower packed up (tragedy)which took another two days to sort out with floorboards and carpets being lifted and us being kept out of our room for a time. The lady owner informed us of what was happening but offered no apology. The bathroom itself was small and the shower cubicle tiny.there was a three course evening dinner which was disappointing with most people starting with what was it soup followed by a child sized main course with roast potatoes and stuffing balls resembling golf balls, you had to queue for desserts which were dished out by the everpresent owner.I tried a bottle of the house red wine(£11-50)and it was awful, the label on the bottle said wine of the european community(UGH)other guests trying the the white wine found it unpleasent also.Everything at the kensington is done for cheapness from the food right down to the loo rolls.Although i only paid £200 for the four day coach trip I expected better.I heard that some rooms have been refurbished but mine was not.A plus point was that the hotel was clean. A good idea would be to send for the hotel inspector(alex politese )as a few senseable changes could make this hotel a reasonable place to stay.RG great yarmouth.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

I was on a coach holiday with my sister. We had a lovely large room at the front of the hotel.
Other people on the trip on the second floor said their rooms were quite small, which seemed a
shame as we all paid the same price for the holiday. Could not fault food and service. Would
stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms on lower floor are larger. We had a lovely large room at the front of the hotel.

My friend and i just spent 4 nights at the Kensington and had a lovely time. Our room was lovely, clean and light with plenty of space for all our clothes. The meals were excellent, and the staff were so happy and very friendly. The hotel is just a short walk from the town and beach, so for us it was ideal. Many thanks to Joan and her staff for making our stay very enjoyable,. We will be back.

Semi-disabled, no ramp to entrance, no grab-rails in bathroom, thin duvet on bed. Shower unusuable, cubicle to small, no hot water or heating sometimes. English breakfast every morning, preferred continental-diabetic. Evening meal usual out of the freezer into the oven, no diabetic type meals available. On the plus side clean and well furnished, but the manageress was miserable, seldom if ever spoke to you, and very, very anti-social. Two staff could speak very little English, treated like dirt by the manageress time and time again. Wihtin walking distance of town centre if your fit and able, taxi's essential-and expensive too. Typical 1970's seaside hotel with no thought or consideration for the older less able person-but that's universal in England,

Room Tip: Ring tourist office for advice, ask for information about hotels, and disable access, Very, very hel...

The welcome was OK, the room smelt of damp; however it was from the bathroom (Carpet in the bathroom - not good as the vent wasn't working either) once I opened the window and bathroom door it soon cleared the smell.
The room was clean but a bit tired (in need of updating in some of the fittings & fixtures).
The Bed was a bit hard for my liking; that said most Hotel beds are to hard for me!!!!
Nice Bar with fair prices,
Breakfast was very good and the staff good.

Safe off road parking.

There is a 10 - 15 minute walk to and from the Town centre / seafront (Beach) down and back up a big hill!

I noted a odd set up as all the room keys are left at reception area on a board (Open to all) as there is no 'manned reception' and the manager is very busy and not always in or around her office or in sight of reception. (In theory anyone who knows the pass number to the front door or other guests could take your room key unseen and pop in and rob your room)!
Even though there was a few Stag Parties staying on different nights there was not to much noise on their return late night / early mornings.

Would we book here again - Yes it did the job.

Room Tip: We had room 2 which was fifteen feet from the reception area, so easy to get to.

I've been staying at the Kensington for one night. Large single room, fairly clean, carpet in the room. Large bathroom as well. Decent breakfast. I would be back because this hotel is fair good value for money.
