“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

Difficult to find any negative points regarding all aspects of The Winter Dene Hotel. Our room was very comfortable, very clean along with a superb power shower. Breakfast was not only very tasty but also served extremely promptly. A good sized easy to use car park is a real plus in Bournemouth, leave the car and enjoy an easy walk into the centre of town. The Winter Dene is clearly run and managed by very experienced people who have balanced, in my opinion , professionalism and hospitality perfectly.
Would certainly recommend a stay and have no doubt we will return.

We stayed here for just one night but wished it could have been longer. Our room was on the top floor and was very spacious and comfortable. It was spotlessly clean and the shower was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and we had an excellent nights sleep. The owners were great hosts. The breakfast was very good. We will certainly stay here again when we next visit Bournemouth and will have a longer stay.

I booked a family room for myself and two daughters age 8 & 14.
We arrived and were met by Renzo who gave us the choice of available rooms, which isn't something I'd experienced before.
We stayed in room 12 on the top floor and it was clean, comfortable and warm on such a chilly day.
The beds were comfy and bedding was a good quality...definitely no brushed nylon sheets here!!
Breakfast is served in the basement which has been converted into a lovely dining room with views of the garden. There was a good choice of breakfast items and the poached eggs were perfection!
The only thing I would say is that the shower was a bit of a let down ( but then we do have a power shower at home, so probably spoilt in that department) and the room would benefit from having a dvd player.
Apart from that, a really lovely little hotel brilliantly positioned for both the town and seafront of Bournemouth.

The room was clean and comfortable, and very spacious. The staff were lovely and really took care of us. On Easter day they gave us Easter eggs at breakfast which was a nice touch. It's hard to believe how little it cost.

We were switched to this hotel at the last minute due to an over booking elsewhere. What a stroke of luck! We were met at the door and welcomed in, shown to our room which was very spacious, two en suite shower rooms and a lovely view of the garden. Good parking and a short taxi ride to all the good restaurants. Breakfast was freshly cooked and the service was friendly and relaxed but quick. We would certainly book again!

Room Tip: Room 2 has 2 ensuite showers, a family room with double and a single bed but great size for a couple...

Well, Renzo ( owner) was waiting behind the (locked) front door when i arrived. He gave me the key, had a very brief chat and that was the last time i saw him. Can't say much about the service, except there was no service front of house.
The room was ok - VERY clean and tidy, but the bed itself was a little tired and it sagged quite noticeably - not the best night's sleep I have had by a long way.
The decor generally is a bit dated and the prints of "old masters" hanging everywhere don't help. It really could be much better than it is.
Breakfast was reasonably good, but starting at 8.30am to 9.15 on a Saturday & Sunday is firstly a bit late and secondly far too short. Likewise dinner was from 6.15 to 7pm only, which makes it a bit rushed.
All in all it is a reasonably average sort of place that really could do with modernizing its decor, and some training in how to do customer service properly.

I've been waiting to answer this review until I could say we have replaced the bed, which has now been done.

When guests have checked in they are given a key and are welcome to come and go as they please - the front door is kept locked for the security of everybody. Winter Dene is a guest house and typically of this sort of establishment does not have a manned reception desk, however there is a bell to summon assistance at any time.

The meal times mentioned are the times of first and last orders, not the time within which you must enter, eat and leave the dining room. We know that meals are a very important part of a holiday.

When guests sign in and then don't take a meal or summon assistance during their stay it is not easy to give any service, other than to hope that they are happy with their room. We appreciate the chance to have a little chat with guests when they settle their account. Guests who have booked on line with a bank card sometimes take advantage of being able to leave very early in the morning so we don't always have chance to say goodbye.

The decor is quite traditional in the public areas in harmony with the Victorian building and the "old masters" are just that - original oil paintings.

Had a really loveley weekend - room was very spacious, and was clean and very well appointed. Lovely shower, wanted to take it home with me. We were able to walk to and from the town centre and the beach with no problems at all. Breakfast was excellent. Will definitely recommend and would come back if we are in Bournemouth again.
