“Not So Bad”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

Booked through Boogaloo Promotions for a half board dance weekend and found the hotel to be a bit dated but otherwise ok. We had a smaller room I think, which was clean and tidy, there may have been a little black mould on the sealant around the bath, but so what? The walls are a little thin but we weren't disturbed particularly, maybe we were lucky with our neighbours.
Buffet style Dinner on the first night was rather cold, and the staff were told by lots of us, they corrected the situation by placing more little heaters under the food dishes, which solved the problem. Food was ok, odd combination sometimes, but perfectly edible and tasty.
The hotel is undergoing refurbishment so the pool is unheated. The dance floors were great.
It is quite a walk into Bournemouth and Boscombe, no little shops nearby.

Room Tip: We had 104, on side of hotel, smallish but adequate and away from dance floors.

It was more or less clean but walls were paper thin and so was woken by the guy snoring next door, bed was like sleeping on the floor it was so hard, dining room closed when I arrived after 9.00pm, nowhere local to walk to for food, bathroom was OK for midgets and I had to park miles away as not enough space nearby. They were selling rooms for £35 when I arrived at reception to check-in too and we were charged £65 a couple of days earlier. I know you get what you pay for but this was not worth £65. Also if you are claustrophobic you will need to walk up the stairs as they are only made for 2 people at a time. I had room 329. Corner room but still grim

Room Tip: I had a corner room 329. Shower cubicle door was broken and replaced with a curtain though which clu...

Stayed here last weekend with my husband and 2 friends. Chose it because they allowed dogs in the room and our friends have 2 dogs. Having previously read reviews we expected to be staying in a giant, crumbling kennel!! We were delighted to be booked in by a lovely friendly receptionist (who spoke perfect English, like all the staff we encountered). We booked 2 twin bed rooms and even our friends room which was going to accomodate the dogs (the pets, not our friends), was spotless. Rooms had crisp white bedlinen, a modern bathroom with fluffy towels and even complimentary toiletries. OK, no flat screen TV and no satellite TV but is that really an issue whilst away from home?. I am sure everyone has Sky plussed everything anyway! Meals were buffet style so you helped yourself to whatever you fancied, with plenty of choices to suit everyone and eat as much as you wanted - the man in front of me managed 3 pork chops at once (now known to us as Mr. threechops). I am diabetic so had to refuse the selection of gateaux and cheescakes on offer but the waiter very kindly came back with cheese and biscuits just for me - another example of how helpful they all were. Breakfast was delicious with a choice of cereal, toast, jams, yoghurts, eggs, scrambled or fried, bacon, mushrooms, hash browns, black pudding, sausages, tomatoes, unlimited tea and coffee etc etc. Fantastic value for money all round. Yes, parking is an issue as car park is way too small for hotel and spaces are limited, but parking is an issue wherever you go these days. We also had the 99p bar from 6-9pm which meant all drinks were 99p, including spirits. Considering we only paid £59 per person for the entire weekend, it was an absolute bargain. My advice - get a cheap deal from UK.Breakaways.co.uk website and ignore the odd bit of worn carpet - life is too short. Have just booked another weekend away in May at the Britannia Folkestone and we are going to ignore the reviews for that one as well. Watch this space!!.

We went on a National Holidays package. Hotel is tired in places, but our room was very nice. Others on the trip were not very satisfied. Food was very good and the entertainment was good. On the night when there wasn't entertainment the happy hour was extended. Heating and hot water sometimes not on in the daytime, but not a problem for us. Overall we felt we received value for money.

Room Tip: Try room 208 not brilliant view but large room good wardrobes and nice bathroom with separate shower...

Just had one night in this horrible hotel. The fact I paid £78 for the room and while I was there I heard them at reception quote £45 for a night was bad enough . But it gets worse .The room was shabby,, unkempt, bed sheet didn't fit bed and the bathroom was a health hazard ! I feel sorry for the very elderly coach parties that were staying there. I would of walked out on finding the place so bad but we were pushed for time and had to stay .We checked out by 8.30am !! Don't go there ..... ever !!!

Room Tip: Don't go there.

We booked through UK Breakaways but had to phone the hotel to ask about bringing our dogs. Had no problems booking and was done in a matter of minutes. We took our 2 dogs with us for the weekend which was great - pets only allowed in reception and our room but that was enough for them as loads of places to walk them. Hotel was so clean - food was absolutely brilliant (some guests ate for 3 people at the help yourself buffet!). Lots of choice food wise and all cooked beautifully. Staff couldn't do enough to help us. We couldn't understand why some people went out of their way to find something stupid to complain about. For what we paid it was outstanding value. They wanted clean mattress protector (as seen on Hotel Inspector!!!). Rooms weren't huge but then you don't expect that. Extra pillows, duvets nd banklets available. Even had an extra heater in our room but we didnt need to use it. Bathrooms were a good size and really hot water so plentiful. We found everything so spotlessly clean. . Even smoking rooms - how often do you find them?? A lift to all floors - some floors had a few steps but if this was a problem just phone before going and they will change your room. The staff were brilliant and try to accommodate everyone - even though some guests could moan for England!! Had a swim In the pool which was warm as was the Jacuzzi. Friends tried the steam room which was also good. Only a few minutes walk from the beach. If not fit enough, there is a lift to take you up and down to the beach more or less opposite the hotel. Plenty of shops in Bournemouth too. Prices are really cheap and you get a lot for your money. What more could you ask for??

So bad is Britannia, that I have logged in here just to warn other people about it.
My wife is wheelchair bound, so when I needed to attend a funeral in Bournemouth, I contacted Central Bookings and explained very clearly that we needed a Wheelchair Accesible room in a hotel relatively near to the crematorium. Not only were we booked into the one of three Britannia hotels in Bournemouth which was furthest away from the crenmatorium, but Central Bookings definition of a room suitable for someone confined to a wheelchair had a bath, not a level access shower!
Fair play to the staff at the hotel, they apologised profusely that they could not get us booked into either of the other Britannia Hotels in Bournemouth, apparently only Central Bookings could do that, and they offered us another wheelchair accessible room when it became available two days later. So we stayed in the hope of getting the "better" room, this turned four not only to have no real wheelchair access, but a stand in shower with a six-inch step to it.
Having asked the hotel off the contact derails of someone to complain to at Britannia, I wad given a compliments slip, that helpfully had no contact details other than a website and the Central Bookings details. So I sent a complaint using the "Contact Us" section of the website, as they are very careful not to give any email addresses. Five months later, I have not heard so much as one peep from them.

Personally, after this, I would avoid any Britannia Group Hotel at all costs,

Room Tip: Try and avoid the ground floor, they appear to have squeezed rooms in places that were never intende...
