“Good traditional b&b/ hotel”
Reviewed 22 March 2009

A real old-school traditional hotel. Rooms nice, functional (quite a lot of chintz). Breakfast good and plentiful. Owner polite but not overly friendly (fine by me!). Feels a bit like staying with your grandparents!

The new owners: Jean and Brian Hart, were very welcoming and friendly and have updated the hotel slightly: still dated in the hallway and owner's lounge though. They accomodated my son's scrambled egg with very much friendliness. There was a good selection of food I was glad to see that the breakfast was at 8 which meant that we had a full day ahead of us to enjoy the beach!

The location is good: we caught the bus into Bournemouth one day but otherwise we could have walked along the front. We also walked to Sandbanks which was no further than Bournemouth in the opposite direction.

Every effort had been taken to ensure cleanliness. The bathroom in our family room had a power shower which was fabulous, however the kids preferred to just take a bath. While we watched the news on the TV, the kids were downstairs in the owners lounge playing on the xbox.

The hotel was full of varied guests from retired couples, to middle aged singles to whole families like ourselves. It's such a traditional hotel.

However, we could not fit our car into the drive so had to be careful not to let the kids cross the road without us

The Glenbourne Hotel advertises itself as 4 diamond guest accommodation. I’m not sure I would call it 4 Diamond, but if you are looking for a clean traditional seaside bed and breakfast, in a good location, it meets the mark.

The furniture is dated, varied in style and not of the highest standard, but it is in working order. The carpets are a bit tired, the breakfast tables are “cosy”, and the breakfast adequate.

The host Jan is friendly and helpful and has on hand a good selection of information on the local area. She also kindly recommended some local restaurants, and the area has a good variety.

The highlight of this hotel is it’s location close to Alum Chine (a beautiful wooded walk), and the few minutes walk to the sandy lovely beach, where you will find a fantastic Italian restaurant “Vesuvius” right by the beach. We spent a lovely evening here, watching the sun go down, whilst having a fantastic meal.
