“Avoid room 323”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2013

We have also just returned from an 8 day holiday at this hotel with Shearings and thought the food and entertainment good. However don`t go by the pictures of the rooms shown on the home page.We were in room 323 whose bathroom was very poor. We had reqested a bath which we were given but to wash my hair was VERY difficult as the rubber hose attachment provided would not attach to the taps. The water just rran down the back of the bath and on to the floor. There was no plug anywhere for an electic shaver. The bathroom floor was badly stained. The bedroom itself needed a net curtain at the window as we could be seen from the properties opposite and the wardrobe had dirty lagged pipes running down the inside and a strange lino floor. It was nothing like the room I had seen in relation to this hotel. The lift was horrible !!Supposed to hold 3 but really only 2 with dirty carpeted walls and a large broken area at the bottom. We did enjoy oursleves on this trip but not the room and would reccommend avoiding it

Room Tip: See above comments. Also the room was at the side where the bin lorries came early in the morning and...

Hi michaelm 187048
Thanks for your comments I am glad to see you enjoyed your time with us. We do have an ongoing program of refurbishment here at the hotel and bathrooms are high on our priority list of things to do. As you said some rooms have just a bath some a walk in shower and some a shower over bath, I am glad to see we met your request for a bath maybe next time give us a call and ask for a shower over a bath as it sounds like this would have been more suitable for you.

We just returned from an eight day holiday at the majestic, we could not have chosen a better hotel, nothinng was too much trouble for tracey moores and her team, The room was kept clean and tidy, there was a good choice of menu and amanda jane made sure we were well entertained at night. The service in all areas was first class, especially david our waiter who was very quick and efficent. On our experience i can highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back.Thank you shearings for a great holiday.

Just been on a trip with Sheerings to this hotel for five days. They just could not do enough for you
Food very good, and plenty of it. If you required more of anything you could certainly have more, but we found it more than enough. Rooms clean, towels changed at ur request. This hotel is not a five star hotel, but, your not paying five star prices. For the money it cannot in our opinion be beaten . Entertainment good, Amanda Jane worked her socks off and ŵas very good.we have also stayed at many hotels of Sheerings and rate this as one of the best.

Room Tip: High floors are good for us .not a lot of noise on the front of the building. The only down side to...

I must have been unlucky reading reviews, because the evening meal every night was
badly cooked badly prepared and somenights inedible, there was certaintly no chef oreven anyone could call acook.. I agree with other reviews about the staff one came intocontact with all pleasant and coach and driver and transfers and excursions excellent entainment was good if
a little patronising towards older guests,we are not all mentally and physically dysfunctional.
In the last eighteen months I have stayed at 3 shearings hotels the County in Llandudno,
Norbreck in Scarborough and never had a problem.

Hi bernard5631
Thanks for your comments about the staff I will make sure I pass them on. As for the food I am a little confused as to what you were expecting. We have a great chef and we have loads of fantastic comments about the food. I am sorry if you feel we didn’t meet your expectations on the occasion.

Arrived friday about 6,oclock check in very smooth. Not too impressed with the room ,needs refurbishment especially the bathroom.Food choice was good and quality acceptable.Drinks were expensive ,deals on spirit doubles but mixer prices too dear.Entertainment was adequate for the clientel i am 60 and was probably one of the youngest men there!Overall the break was good as the sun was shining and just love bournemouth ,would go back if a cheap deal came up.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a balcony ,and request a bath if needed because we just had a shower in a cubicle

We were struggling to get in anywhere in Bournemouth ahead of the bank holiday - well unless you wanted to pay prices that would cover a fortnight in Orlando. And so we came across the Majestic, clearly a haven or heaven for those of an older age. Was unsure what to expect but, as you might see from reading some of my previous hotel reviews, we are not picky and quite benevolent. However, our cheery smiles faded when we turned up ten minutes to check-in to be told, rather too gleefully, we could not access our room for more than an hour. A glance at the lounge showed everyone was in the same boat. There were boxes everywhere and staff darting around with furniture from beds to chairs. Someone had decided the Friday of the bank holiday weekend was good to take a delivery and sort the refurb. After 40 mins there was relief for some when it was announced those on the first floor - and names were read out - could check in. When it got to 4.20pm I politely asked when the work was done what floor would I be on. Oh joy, I was on the first, except we were left off the list and were spending our valuable time twiddling our thumbs when we could have been in and out! The room was such a surprise.... everything from chairs, bed, wardrobe, table, carpet was brand new and it was the business. Top class. The bathroom, I assume it is next to be worked on, had an ancient bath with ceramic peeling off and stains around the plug hole that left me agonising on whether to use it. No shower. Not good. But you cannot have everything. The food was of good quality, always piping hot, choice of three of each course, and rapid service. Entertainment was not high on our agenda, but low key and unspectacular, ie bingo, quiz and usually a singer. Overall, we really liked the place, and it came at a bargain price, too. It is located a mile out of town but you can be on the cliff tops in five minutes. They charged £5 a day for parking but you need to be quick and book. Alternatively we parked yards from the hotel on the road. Pay and display is in use Monday-Friday but it is free over the weekend. 1b and 1c buses to Bournemouth and Poole (£2.90 return) run from very close to the hotel, on the nearby Christchurch Road, which is situated in a quiet area. So first impressions were not great but we were very happy to be there, and would not hesitate to go back. Oh, must mention we did get an unsolicited apology for the check-in delay and vouchers for four free drinks per person which went down very well. Nice gesture.

Room Tip: We were in room 112 overlooking the front of the hotel, no noise at all. Main room was excellent.

Hi Christtheblueboy
Thanks for your review sorry about the check in delay our contractor was a week late. I am pleased the new furniture met with your approval I must admit it does look good. We have started on the bathrooms now but this will take some time to do. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us and took advantage of what the majestic and Bournemouth has to offer. We hope to see you again soon.
