Reviewed 23 September 2013

Just returned from spending a weekend away in this hotel,We stayed in a different bay hotel last October and had a good time so thought we would do it again.
Hotel wasn't as close to the beach and town as we hoped, but cliff walk into town was far better than the road way.
First impressions when we walked into our room was very disappointing, in fact for a good few minutes I thought I wouldn't be able to stay in the room as it was so small, smallest hotel room we have ever stayed in, but after going out for a walk hubby talked me into staying by saying the room is only for sleeping.
Room and hotel were clean, Nice friendly reception staff, shame we couldn't say the same for the restaurant staff, never once seen them smile.
Food was ok, no shower gel or shampoo in the bathrooms which would have been nice, but plenty of milk, tea and coffee in the rooms.Oh and bad creaking floors in the bedrooms.
Nice size concert room, we saw two entertainers which were ok,
Looking around the hotel at the other hotel guest, you would have thought it was a Saga Hotel, we are in our sixty's but the others were or seemed a lot older.Dont know if this was because of the time of year!
At the time of booking this weekend away we were asked if we were celebrating anything, which we were, Our Anniversary and my Retirement, so we sort of thought we was going to be given a card or bottle of wine from the hotel but we received nothing, so couldn't understand why they would ask this question??
We were lucky with the weather, beach is very nice and town good for shopping.
Not sure we would stay in this hotel again, but we did enjoy our time away.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms at the side of hotel,(108) coaches leave engines running, Avoid the lift if you Can...

Hi Glenvile
Thanks for your comments I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us and apart from the size you found everything met with your expectations. I am not sure who you booked your holiday with as no one either told us or put any comments on your booking about a celebration. We have many people travel with us who are celebrating and we have a verity of packages we can offer to cater for you needs. We hope to see you again at some point and if you give me a call when you book we can deal with it all here and I will make sure we find you a room that will suite your needs.

We went on a five day Shearings coach holiday to Bournemouth, staying at this Hotel, which is in a residential area with a walk down to the seafront. The roads are quite busy and noisy, especially in the mornings, so keep the windows shut at night if you want peace! Buses are very frequent, and you can use your bus pass! Maps of the area, and bus times, can be obtained from reception. Just beware there is one lift, that can only accommodate two people!!!

Rooms were already allocated, we had Room 305 which overlooked the coach park and road. The room was clean, the bed linen spotless. Bathroom small, but had the advantage of a walk-in shower. Unfortunately the shower doors took ages to close, as they kept sticking! Shower pressure was good. The bed was a standard double, far too small for someone over six foot. There were two chairs, but these were ‘dining room’ type ones, and not at all comfortable. Television was a small portable which went out with the ark, and you could only receive four channels. The floor was very creaky, and there was no part that didn’t creak!!!!

Breakfast was from 8am until 9.30am every morning, evening meal from 6.30pm, with no deviation. It would’ve been nice to have breakfast earlier on the departure morning, as putting the cases out by 7am meant hanging about until 8am. Dining Room is very crowded with the tables quite close together. The buffet table was in a corner, and everyone had to queue between tables to get to it. This was particularly annoying when some people just wanted fruit juice. Although there was a good selection of cereals, only grapefruit and prunes were the fruit on offer! You had to ask for yoghurt. In saying that, the food was excellent, with a choice of menu each day.

There is a large lounge/ballroom with adequate seating, which meant our party of 12 could sit together quite comfortably. Entertainment on each evening, and Amanda Jane was excellent, she should get onto cruise ships, as she's much better than some of the acts on them! She inter-acted with her audience by telling jokes, singing and playing the clarinet, all of which she did superbly. In between this, she hosted bingo and quizzes. We were also entertained by Neil Scott (singing) and Christopher Gee (impressionist), both of whom were also excellent.

Room Tip: Try to sit near the back of the restaurant, and you won't be disturbed by people lining up for b...

Hi Handmade71
Thanks for your comments I am glad to see you enjoyed your stay with us and took advantage of our fantastic bus service here. I will pass your lovely comments on to Amanda and the rest of my team. I will get maintenance to take a look at the shower door in 305 I expect it wants a bit of adjustment. As for the TV we have updated most of the rooms now with new flat screens and hope to get the rest done as soon as we can. We hope to see you all again soon.

We were concerned after reading some of the reviews that our planned stay was going to be awful but we were pleasantly surprised. The main rooms of the hotel are good with friendly and helpful staff and our bedrooms 301 and 302 were of a good standard for what we paid. The only down side was the creaking floors. The lift is small but we were happy to use the stairs.
There was plenty of choice both at breakfast and dinner with food being hot and adequate, again not 5 star but much better than we anticipated. The evenings entertainment was bingo and quizzes followed by singing and dancing if you wished. On the Friday night Neil entertained us with a voice that would not be out of place on the West End. The couple we went with we're impressed that it was better than the cruise they had been on.
The hotel is ideally situated to walk down to the front and either to Bournemouth or Boscombe and it is easy to catch buses everywhere, we went to Poole.
Overall the hotel was just what we needed for at short stay and we would return.

We have stayed at this hotel several times over the last 8 years and at all times of the year, all the staff are so helpful you couldn't ask for any more.
We have watched this hotel being refurbished and prosper and can understand why it is nearly always fully booked.
It used to be a hotel for mature people but we have noticed the young are staying there many with children.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor are quieter

We went on a Shearing's Holiday, the trip was fine, but the room was poor.
We had room 308, the bedding was clean as were the towels, but the room could have done with a thorough clean. We have stayed in may different hotels this has to be the one that the cleaners have forgotten how to clean effectively. By the end of our stay we could write our name on the top of the TV (it was an old portable type - 6 channels only). The shower cubicle needed to be de-moulded, the base was cleaned every day, as was the shower room floor - except behind the bathroom door, under the sink and behind the loo - in other words just the bits that you could see with the door open. The room was otherwise ok, except that there was only one chair! We had a double room!!

The public areas and the dining room were always clean, the entertainment was ok. But the price of drinks - take out a second mortgage - nearly £4.00 a pint (and not nice either) we ended up on Soda Water and Lime!!.

Nice walks, and great local bus service to Poole and Swanage (at a much cheaper cost than Shearing's)

Room Tip: Don't choose room 308 unless they have cleaned it properly, you also need to close windows at ni...

We are a family of four, and had two twin rooms210/211 at the hotel. Both rooms were clean and tidy and were kept so Michael throughout the five days we stayed at the hotel. The food was good, sufficient and varied. The staff were all very friendly. The entertainment, quizzes and bingo sessions meant that we didn't have to go out in the evening. The only set back is the 3 person lift, although it did not inconvenience us too much.We will be back.

Room Tip: We were not in convenienced by noise on the second floor
