“Not overly impressed”
Reviewed 22 January 2011

Room extremely small, not as viewed on their website when I picked it. But clean and tidy. Went to bed at it became apparent that the walls were extremely thin and you could even hear the people in the room next door breathing!!! It was like there was no wall their at all. Asked to be moved to a different room, which they were very forthcoming with and advised that they had had problems with noise in that particular room and that they had recently had more sound proofing installed but with little effect - this by the way was the Maya room. So we moved room to the top floor. Much better room, lots more space and a bigger en suite, but the bed was very soft and uncomfortable and yet again you could hear most things going on in other rooms.
All in all not the peaceful, relaxing weekend I had hoped for.
Breakfast was very good though and plenty of choice.

We were greated with the sight of a flowing chocolate fountain! This was great and started our weekend off with a smile.

Throughout the weekend there was plenty of chocolate in the lobby however not that much in the rooms! This was a little disapointing as i was expecting chocolate everywhere! regardless of this the atmosphere was great and the couple who ran the place were very helpfull and chatty.

on our way out in the evening we had a drink in the bar which was nice and the barman made us a great chocolate cocktail.

we only ate breakfast in the hotel which was also nice. there was a good selection and the service was fast.

The bedrooms were warm and comfortable with lots of space.

i would stay in the hotel again if i was in the area however the chocolate theme might not be to everyones taste.

The Chocolate Boutique hotel was the destination for a weekend getaway for my sis and I and we had a lovely time! We were greeted with a cheery welcome from Julija at the reception desk and proffered marshmallows & wooden skewers to dip in a little desktop, milk chocolate fountain, before we'd even had time to put our suitcases down!
More milk chocolate was waiting for us in our room in the shape of a house - the C.B.Hotel logo; mini ones in a dish and what I discovered were coaster sized logo choc blocks when I nearly put a cup of tea down on one! The usual hotel-sized room was simply yet comfortably decorated with a chocolate theme; rich chocolate-coloured bed linen, cushions, carpet, wallpaper, chair etc.. and chocolate-themed prints; nice that the rooms were therefore 'unisex' in terms of the tastes they'd appeal to. We'd booked the twin room (Cortes) and found the beds very comfortable and the little ensuite bathroom had a great shower. We girls really liked the bathroom / make-up mirror with little in-set lit squares all around it for a good flat, flattering light, rather than the usual unhelpful, overhead, severe lighting which makes even super models look hideous! :-D
It was nice and quiet at night without traffic noise or bright lights outside. The location was perfect to stroll within 5 minutes to the cliff top promenade for panoramic views of the sea and Bournemouth beach stretching across to Poole. Another few minutes and we could be down on the beach via the zigzag, stepped path close by or the other way took us straight to Bournemouth pier and gardens.

On saturday morning, after a delicious, beautifully cooked, full English breakfast, (and all manner of other breakfast options besides), we took part in a chocolate-making workshop learning how to make Belgium Chocolate Truffles. There were 20 people there and it was a good mix of ages; young couples, family, friends, a hen party, retired couples, you name it, but all were very enthusiastic and game for some chocolate crafting fun! The workshop gave a brief history of chocolate before embarking on the fun practical. In case we weren't immersed in enough delicious chocolate (up to our elbows literally) there was another milk chocolate fountain to feast from too. We worked in pairs/singly to create each stage of the chocolate creation, even learning how to temper the chocolate. An excellent host/ teacher guiding us all, to transform, what initially looked like a mass 'Generation Game' style chaotic endeavoring, into professional-looking and tasting, delicious choc' truffles. The chocolate ingredients used were high quality 60 or 70% cocoa solids, of a single source which I was delighted to learn of (and taste!). We even got to gift wrap our own 30-40 truffles to take home, with choices of ribbon and decorative cellophane wrapping for the final chocolatier flourish!
Later after a refreshing, long afternoon walk along Bournemouth beach towards Poole and back, that evening we enjoyed chatting with owner/hotelier Gerry, in the cocktail bar whilst he conjured up some delicious chocolate cocktails for us (and the bar top snacks also included dishes of Belgian Chocolate Truffles). We then popped out (around the corner) to a local Italian for dinner but even the centre of Bournemouth for retail and restaurants was just 15 minutes walk or so down the road.

Sunday we spent sight-seeing, shopping and even had morning coffee on the Pier, on a cafe terrace in brilliant sunshine. Hurray! The weather was amazing, lovely late autumn sunshine all weekend, despite the actual weather forecasts for heavy rain! Go figure?!?

All in all a very enjoyable weekend. The best bits being; the chocolate workshop, the hotel location and lovely beach walks, the tasty breakfasts, the convivial host Gerry, the chocolate fountains & cocktails, oh and the comfy beds - because a bad nights sleep can ruin everything lets face it!

For anyone who likes chocolate, easy to reach long recuperating beach walks with the odd cafe to dive into along the way, a relaxing location, coastal promenade gardens and shopping, this is a great autumn/winter venue. For a true-blue, perfectionist connoisseur of strictly pure, high cocoa content, single estate grown, gourmet chocolate, this hotel's populist milk chocolate bias and thus complimentary chocolate, may not be exacting enough for you. However, the chocolate workshops would, I think, cater to every chocolate fan as being a fun, creative, delicious and thus very satisfying experience, even for the chocolate purists!
Apparently the workshops also run in several places around the country and I for one, am toying with the idea of a girlie, birthday treat get-together at a Bath-based workshop sometime! Would definitely like to do the class again.

My main suggestion for improvement would be to have a choice of plain chocolate fountain as well and a choice of plain and milk chocolate in the rooms (or you choose ahead of time, upon booking maybe?). During summer months it would also be fab' to have fruit as an option to dip into the fountains but the hotel may do this anyway; this autumn being my first visit.
It would also be great to see an even more specialized chocolate-making workshop that catered to the non-dairy amongst us; to learn how to make non milk or non cream-containing, plain chocolate treats with non-dairy alternatives and more cocoa butter perhaps?

Having read some reviews on here I was actually put off of the hotel, but sorry you are wrong!! I emailed the owner and asked to upgrade my room and it was no problem, as was putting some champagne in the room, it was all waiting perfectly when we arrived. The owner helped us with finding a place to eat. Also the maps on reception are very handy. The bathrooms are of a hotel standard. I was very happy.

This hotel is fantastic, the decor is amazing, chocolate from top to bottom. Chocolate topped up in your room daily and chocolate pancakes for breakfast !
The staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms are cozy, clean and welcoming. Gorgeous bathrooms, and if you have a room with a bath, the baths are huge !
We have stayed twice in the last year, in 2 different rooms and both have been lovely. The location is a good distance away from town and the beach. This is ideal for couples, young or old and of course you need to love chocolate!

This is not a reflection on this hotel itself, but the only downside to this hotel, is the awful chavy hotel opposite, we were woken up in the night a few times by drunken people. Its a shame because other than that its perfect!

We booked the Chocolate Boutique Hotel for our hen party as the bride to be is a dedicated chocoholic. The hotel really didn't dissapoint! With so many chocolate eating opportunities all of the hens were delighted, and Gerry was the most wonderful, accommodating and attentive host. Not to mention patient with our large and disorganised group! All of the rooms are beautifully decorated and every hen in the party complemented me on the choice. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend for anyone looking for a memorable break.
