“A great place to stay......”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

We were part of the group of 13 plus dog (see Cheekyface27 review) and echo that we only have positive things to say about Kingcombe.

We rented the whole place as a self catering holiday let (rather than b&b) and it worked very well. My initial doubts on how it could work were soon put to rest as the lets are cleverly designed to be to be used individually or in adjoining pairs - perfect for families wanting kids sleeping safely close by yet with no compromise on privacy if let as individual units. Really well designed.

Accommodation is very good quality, really well appointed (we were really impressed) and spacious. Rooms had tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits as well as TV's. Bathroom (some had wet rooms) were big and the showers were hot and very powerful - brilliant.

Location, whilst slightly remote, was still good and didn't impact our holiday. You need a car, and a short (sub 5-10m) drive would take you to a handful of villages for shops, pubs, petrol stations etc as well as only being 15/20m from Weymouth and Dorchester.

The fishing lakes were used by some locals (including fishing clubs) but they were so quiet you didn't know they were there unless you actually saw them, and even then the maximum number of people were c5/6 -and we stayed over a long weekend. We used the fishing lakes daily and all caught plenty of carp (mostly 7-10lb range).

Andrea and Paul were incredibly friendly and helpful - without being intrusive - and were always on hand for advice and recommendations if needed. They were confident in their product and It was reassuring!

Would definitely stay here again - perfect for large parties.

We stayed here as a family of 13 plus a dog. We opted to rent the whole lodge rather than individual rooms as a B&B. We chose to go self catering to give us flexibility with our plans.
We were all incredibly impressed with the lodge. The rooms were spacious and modern as was the main living area and kitchen. Everything was clean and in great condition and we couldn't have asked for more. We are keen on fishing so being by the multiple lakes was a great selling point for us. We have a number of carp up to approx 10lbs although did see some bigger ones in there.
The lodge is slightly remote so you must be willing to drive through the lanes to get around.
Both Paul and Andrea were very friendly and were wonderful hosts. They were always on hand should you need anything.
I have only positive things to say about the lodge and would highly recommend for a group stay!

I love this place. Andrea and Paul are fantastic hosts - nothing is too much trouble and I have been back several times now. Accommodation is clean and bright and two of the rooms are fitted out with wet rooms for those with reduced mobility. Andrea is a great cook both for breakfast and evening meals. The setting is in a valley well away from the main road and there are plenty of places for you and your dog to explore on foot. Fishing in the ponds and small lakes resulted in me catching carp, tench, rud and roach, and there is plenty of birdlife and wildlife too. Spent a day just wandering around with my camera. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: If you want to use wifi in your room the signal can be quite weak at times due to the very thick wal...

We've stayed at the lodge a couple of times and cannot recommend it enough. Andrea and Paul are very accommodating and make you feel incredibly welcome. We stayed for a wedding in nearby Hooke Court and Andrea even offered to pick us up from the reception at midnight. Then she looked after our dog when we went to the sailing at the Olympics. She is amazing! And she cooks a lovely breakfast too. The rooms are light and spacious. We particularly like room 6 with the wet room. The views from the lodge are fantastic, it's in a great spot looking over rolling Dorset hills. This is truly a hidden gem.

We spent a weekend late in September with all rooms booked by friends and family of Bob for his 70th birthday. Splendid spacious rooms with pine furniture and wooden floors, wonderfully decorated and comfortable. Our hosts, Andrea & Paul, were very welcoming and helpful. Clearly aiming to please. nothing was too much trouble. Paul recommended a good drive along the coast. since we wanted to visit Portland Castle. I got up early and went to the dining room to read and have a cup of tea and found Andrea busy cooking breakfast for some of our party, while others of us chose to self cater. Such a super relaxing fun weekend. For a little extra Andrea is more than happy to cook an evening meal if pre arranged.
We would recommend KIngcombe Lodge to everyone.

We stayed for 3 nights in August and we were impressed with everything - the rooms were very well designed, private, clean and pleasant to stay in. The disabled-adapted room had been very thoughtfully designed and was easy for a wheelchair user to manage. The hosts, Andrea and Paul, were very warm and welcoming and helpful. Breakfasts were wonderful and we bought some of their Kingcombe Valley cider to take home. A really great experience!

Room Tip: They are all good!

We hired out all the rooms of Higher Kingcombe Lodge for my 40th birthday party and chose to have the owner Andrea cook a three course meal for us in the evening. It was everything I had wanted and more for my party. Everyone commented how homely and relaxed the atmosphere and how amazing Andrea was. She provided the most sumptuous meal (after we had discussed my requirements weeks before) which was served by her engaging sister-in-law, Jess. We partied until the very small hours and again Andrea came to our rescue at 10:30 the next morning with a fabulous selection of fruit, cereals, full english, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, tast etc. The rooms themselves are very light airy and spacious with huge en-suites, with the whole lodge looking over fields of sheep and lakes stocked with carp. It really was a truly idyllic landscape to wake up to. I would definately recommend Higher Kingcombe Lodge to everyone!!

Room Tip: Room 3 is really large with a great sized bathroom.
