“Very nice rural Inn/Pub/Restaurant”
Reviewed 28 March 2010

We spent two nights at The Fox Inn while visiting Monkey World, Stonehenge and Bath.

We had a very nice stay at The Fox Inn. Beautiful room, good (full English) breakfast. We enjoyed the Dinner in the Pub both nights. Good atmosphere, friendly staff.

we stayed in this hotel for just one night and we found both rooms and food of good standard.lovely little bar which was used by locals and guests alike
lovely restaurant which served good wholesome food.
i think the owners have only been at this hotel for 2 years and im sure that they will keep improving
I would definately stay at this hotel again

My husband and I spent a weekend at this lovely Inn the week before Christmas, and despite them being busy with the local's Christmas Parties (always a good sign if local's use it) the welcome we received was amazing! Rooms were very comfortable, staff really friendly, nothing was too much bother and the food was so good that we ate all our meals there!

I have just read the other reviews of this pub, and just wish we had seen them before wasting time and money at this pub! My husband booked three nights at the Fox as a birthday surprise for me. We arrived at 6.30pm, to an unlit, unwelcoming building and finally managed to get in just after 7pm after hammering at a side door. While the bedroom was acceptable, the bathroom left everthing to be desired - the loo had not been properly cleaned, the bath was disgusting (hairs in the plughole, green slime from a dripping tap, and just generally grubby). Downstairs, the dining room was bleak, badly lit and festooned with cobwebs, the lightshades were burnt and decrepit looking, the paintwork was dingy and dirty. The evening meal was reasonable but not exceptional. Breakfast was served in the charming but filthy back kitchen by someone who seemed anxious to leave as quickly as possible - understandable, I suppose. We did the same ourselves - checked out immediately and will certainly never be going back. The pub appears to be a drinking club for locals - the din from the bar finally ended about 12.30, and the landlord was very much the worse for wear the next morning. We booked into the Acorn Inn at Evershot instead, just up the road. What a difference - fantastic service, great welcome, everything sparkling clean, and just for about £10 a night more.

We had a lovely stay here in The Fox Inn. Beautiful, spacy room for the three of us, good (full English) breakfast. Dinner was fine too. Good atmosphere, friendly staff.
In reasonable distance of Monkey World and the Tank Museum. We'll certainly come back here for a short stop when traveling to Land's End next year.

This is a fabulous place in a great rural location, off the beaten track and the Sunday carvery is always delicious! The staff are friendly and attentive and it is excellent value for money.
There are some lovely walks nearby if you are into exploring the countryside.

I spent ages looking for somewhere to stay near Dorchester, and final found the Fox Inn had availability, and snapped up a room.

I am so pleased that a lot of the other places I'd picked out were fully booked, as this place was so lovely. It really is tucked away down windy lanes, but when you find it, you are made to feel very welcome. The room we booked (a superior room at £105 for a Saturday night), was on the top floor, and very nicely decorated - just like the pictures on the website. The bathroom was a little tight, but it was newly fitted out, and very clean and tidy.

We ate in the bar area in the evening - both the restaurant and the bar have the same menu, but we preferred to sit in the bar. The food wasn't so good - much of what we ordered had come out of the freezer - e.g. fishcake starter (which was also half burnt), and brie wedges. The vegatable cous cous main course I ordered was homemade, but was stodgy and far too wet, and I only ate about 1/4 of it.

In the morning, we weren't expecting great things from breakfast after the night before...however, it was very good indeed. Everything was very good quality (the ham that came with the ham and eggs was amazing!), and plentiful.

All in all - a great place to stay, breakfast fantastic...but evening meal not so good.
