We found Westwood House by chance via the internet. It is a charming converted Georgian townhouse in the centre of the lovely old market town of Dorchester in Dorset. We were allocated a large and very comfortable en suite room (the Abbotsbury) on the first floor at the front. The breakfast served in the conservatory was excellent with a good choice of food, in fact the toast is the best we have had. Why is it so hard for hotels to serve good toast? We received a warm welcome from the two in house cats. Westwood House is very good value for money for the area and we will definitely return when next in the region as Dorchester is a good stopping off point for travellers going further West. The only down side was that as the hotel is on the road through the centre of town there was no adjacent parking.

We spent 4 nights here during mid October and found the location very convenient to explore Dorchester and the surrounding countryside. Upon arrival, a friendly greeting awaits, then with helpful guide around the tastefully decorated room with good facilities, clean & tidy. After a few tips on local eateries / facilities, you are left in comfort to relax. Our room overlooked main street, some noise percolated its way through the double glazed windows, however, we did not find it obtrusive even for country folk like us. A hearty breakfast is available in the conservatory, all of good quality, featuring local produce as available and served with the minimum of fuss.

Help & advice on local features, walks & recommendations is readily available if asked for.

A minor quibble is that a heated towel rail would be very handy, to dry wet towels and in summer we would try to book at room at the back of the house, as rooms at the front could become quite "stuffy" unless you open the windows then you will have to live with the street noise.
A couple of tips; arriving by car, there is street parking opposite but that's busy until later in the evening. "Top of town" car park is the best place to park (public& well lit) , long & short stay and a 5 minute walk and we had no problems during our stay. just "Google" Dorchester car parks for map & rates. Getting in & out of Dorchester use the B3147 (the car park is at the top of the road with the main street junction, turn right & right again to get in) which links onto the ring road, we found this the quickest & easiest way in& out of town esp at tea time / school run.
Overall highly recommended, Many hotel managers would do well to stay & learn about hospitality.
Final tip, book well in advance to get your choice of rooms.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back are quieter

A friendly and helpful welcome awaits you at the Westwood House.

Firstly the room - extremely well appointed with a fabulously comfortable and large bed. A bit short on floor space though.

The location is on the busy main street of the town. Our room was at the back and there was no traffic noise, but this might be an issue in rooms at the front. The hotel does not have its own car park, but there is meter parking further down the street, For overnight parking there is a public car park about 3 minutes walk away. Overall I thought the car parking situation was less than convenient and potentially hard to understand for someone whose first language is not English.

The selection at breakfast time was very varied with lots of options including some very fancy jams and spreads (possibly local produce?) The smoked salmon and eggs option that my wife wanted was not available. The cooked breakfast was disappointing - maybe it was because we were the last ones down and it was not as fresh as earlier.

We've had a better overall experience at other B&Bs and at £90 it did not represent value for money.

Can only confirm others' recently posted impressions. We appreciated the attractively furnished bedroom and the bathroom which had a modern, easy-to-operate shower. Breakfast, served in the light and airy conservatory, was first-rate, with a good selection of both hot and cold food. The proprietors contrived to be both friendly and attentive but also unobtrusive. Would stay there again in flash!

I booked a night here after reading the reviews. I was not disappointed. I cannot add anything to the excellent reviews except to say that it is the best accommodation I have ever visited, including 5 star hotels in many countries. All the reviews proved to be accurate especially the comments on breakfast, room, friendliness and courtesy of Tom and Demelza. I wholeheartedly concur with the comments made by NoholoRa.

Room Tip: ask for rear room but no problem if not available.

We (My wife and I) stopped here for one night whilst travelling along the south coast. Lovely room, very clean and the smoked haddock was a perfect breakfast.

Only giving it 4 out of 5 as I wouldn't want them to take the foot off the pedal.
