An absolute gem. Tried hard to find a fault, but couldn't. Room was great, the guest house is run by Tom & Demelsa who are absoultely fantastic, making sure guests are made welcome. Food is a major issue for me, as it is for the owners here! They don't offer anything but breakfast, but have a host of restaurants within a few minutes walk, and seem to have reviewed them all! Attention to detail is brillant, no UHT milk with the in-room tea and coffee, a little jug in the fridge filled with the real fresh thing. They only serve breakfast, but that is a cut above the usual, even providing XO marmite (OK I admit, I love it!).

Being in the centre of Dorchester parking is a bit of a problem, but 24 hour parking is available about 100 yards up the road.

We didn't test this out, but the guide in the room says if you fancy a take away in your room, just let them know and you can borrrow crockery, cutlery and glasses for wine. Civilised or what!

Room Tip: Ones at the back would be best.

The Westwood is a lovely place to stay. From the warm welcome at the start to the great room to the superb breakfast, it was a terrific couple of days we had there. So central, yet not noisy - and hosts who went out of their way to help with everything.

This is an excellent guest house, ideally situated on the main street in Dorchester. Shops bars and restaurants are all within walking distance, so you can park the car and forget about it. There is a car park just up the hill, which costs £8.40 for three days. The ticket is also valid for other car parks in West Dorset. Rooms in this guest house are stylish and well equipped, and as other reviewers have said, feature very large, extremely comfortable beds. The owners are particularly pleasant and helpful, and will ensure that you have a good stay. The flat screen TV was a welcome addition, and the free wifi in the room a useful bonus. Breakfast was good with wide-ranging choices to suit all tastes. All in all I would highly recommend Westwood House for quality and value .

We spent two nights here in February 2012 and had a wonderful stay. The welcome was warm and genuine from the moment we walked through the door. The room was large, clean and very tastefully decorated and breakfast was great. So glad we chose this place and not the others we were looking at, which looked a bit tired and dated. Really enjoyed it and will definitely rebook when we come back to Dorchester in the spring.

We spent one night here in January 2012 and were very pleasantly surprised. A really lovely feel to the place, friendly and helpful, but not obtrusive hosts. Lovely clean and fresh room and they have also supplied a few extras of things you might have forgotten which was a really lovely touch. Rooms at front are not too noisy even though they are on the high street. Best hotel breakfast we have had, with a huge selection of locally made Jams and marmalade and perfectly cooked scramble egg. All round great place and great value. Absolutely lovely stay and will definitely return.

We found Westwood House by chance via the internet. It is a charming converted Georgian townhouse in the centre of the lovely old market town of Dorchester in Dorset. We were allocated a large and very comfortable en suite room (the Abbotsbury) on the first floor at the front. The breakfast served in the conservatory was excellent with a good choice of food, in fact the toast is the best we have had. Why is it so hard for hotels to serve good toast? We received a warm welcome from the two in house cats. Westwood House is very good value for money for the area and we will definitely return when next in the region as Dorchester is a good stopping off point for travellers going further West. The only down side was that as the hotel is on the road through the centre of town there was no adjacent parking.
