“The perfect weekend”
Reviewed 16 August 2010

We booked two nights at Westwood House for a family wedding - and then when we arrived, we found that other family members had booked up the rest of the house, bar one room! From the moment we arrived, the weekend could not have been better. We were given a warm welcome by Tom, who runs the hotel with his wife, Demelza. Nothing was too much trouble while we were there - it was almost like staying in the home of old friends. The hotel is beautifully kept, extrememly comfortable and spotlessly clean. Our superior room was lovely - very comfortable and quiet. The breakfasts were fabulous - among the best I have had. There are two very friendly cats who live in the hotel and they were happy to join us at breakfast in the morning! The hotel is on the main street in Dorchester and is central for everything. There is a car park just up the road, which costs £8.40 to park for the wholeweekend - very reasonable, I thought. I would certainly return to this hotel again and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

We were staying here for a course at Dorchester Hospital and it was booked by our Health Board so we had no say in the booking. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find an immaculately clean guest house and good sized rooms. If you are unable to cope with steep and uneven stairs should probably give this guest house a miss. Also if you are allergic to cats don't stay here as there are two very beautiful, friendly, but unobstrusive cats that are in the breakfast room. In saying this, the whole place is well run and the owners could not have been friendlier or more helpful, changing breakfast times to suit our early start at the weekend. Breakfast is excellent with a good choice of cereals, fresh bread and a well cooked breakfast selection, cooked to order, which was delicious and kept us going most of the day. It is well placed for a quick walk into the quaint, quiet town which is well served with many good restaurants for evening meal. We did not have a car - so parking was not an issue and the hospital was only a 5 minute walk away. Overall a very pleasant stay and I would recommed this guest house to anyone staying in Dorchester.

We enjoyed our stay. The owners were hospitable, our room (a superior one) was spacious and comfy with a big bathroom, and also quiet in spite of overlooking the High Street. Breakfast was very hearty, so we didn't really need lunch.
We did think the room was over-heated (easily rectified) and had an electric air-freshener, which we personally dislike (and took a bit longer to rectify with the help of open windows).
The hotel was one of the quietest I have ever been in, probably because of its Regency townhouse lay-out, which contributes to a good night's sleep.

I stayed here for one night with a group of friends and our partners and we booked the entire guest house - all 7 rooms. The room was smartly decorated and spotless. It was also a good size. The en-suite was less inspiring but also spotless and it had a good shower. Most importantly for me, the room was silent even though it overlooked the main street. Breakfast was faultless (and included in the room price) - there was a lot of choice and although I didn't have a cooked breakfast my friends enjoyed theirs. I absolutely loved the breakfast conservatory which was exactly as it should have been. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. The house has two cats which are kept downstairs and although I'm allergic to cats I had no problems at all - probably because the house is kept so clean.

I would recommend this guest house unreservedly. Thank you very much for such an enjoyable stay!

Good all round Hotel/B&B bang in the centre of Dorchester High Street with good local Council car park nearby. Friendly and speedy booking via e-mail with quick responses to e-mails. Warm greeting on arrival day. Breakfast was very nice and well cooked. Our only small gripe was that our rooms on the top floor were a little chilly during the night.

We had to book this hotel at short notice when my father was taken ill in the dorchester area. We had no idea how long we needed the room, but the staff here went far beyond the call of duty to ensure we were all taken care of. My Mother was made extremely comfortable, they fitted the service of her room around hospital visiting and when extra vistors came and went through the week, they ensured we had all we needed.
The room was beautiful, very spacious and an extremely large bathroom with a full size bath, which was very much appriciated. The breakfast was extensive and most delicious.
There isn't any parking, but there is plenty 'cheap' parking within a short walking distance.
I cannot fault this hotel at all, if we find ourselves in this area again, this will certainly be our number one choice to stay.

This is more a guest house than a hotel. It is in a small town house in the centre of Dorchester. It was well kept and maintained but nothing special. I didnt really appreciate the cat in the dining room at breakfast time although I was asked if I minded. There is no car parking and the price was high for the accommodation.

Thank you for your review.
I would like to point out that we ARE a Guest House NOT a Hotel.
Unfortunately we do not have a car park, which is stated on our website, there is, however, a public car park 150 metres from the house which is 50p for an overnight stay.
