“Nostalgic but could be improved”

Dorset Teddy Bear Museum

The visit was part of the package for a passport for five Dorchester museums. A little disappointed in the overall feel of the place. Could have been improved with information on the bears in the cabinets and the overall development of the teddy bear movement. The bears dressed up in various rooms were looking tired but my son liked them even if one caught my eye with human feet, a little feeling of a doctor who scenario.
If you love teddies, would recommend but don't expect too much.

My four year old grandaughter took her teddy here and loved having her picture taken next to Edward and his family. The museum took a little bit of a walk to find but was worth it from her point of view. A bit of nostalgia for the older children at heart. It would be nice if the stories that were being read were a little louder though, as the young ones liked listening to them. A very bijoux museum which would benefit a few more affordable souvenirs for 'the smaller 'person.

This is one of 5 linked attractions in Dorchester that you can either buy separate tickets for or a 'passport' one that saves you money. In my opinion buying the separate ticket for this one is simply not worth the money: The whole museum is the upstairs of a terraced house, with one of the 6 rooms being a shop. The teddies are interesting to look at and posed well (if a bit creepy)but the whole thing looks tired and there is little if anything telling you about each teddy eg: its history, or even the development of the teddy industry/how they were made.

There was however a questionnaire that children could fill in as they went around for which they got a sticker as a reward which went down well with my 2 and 4 year old.

This attraction would definitely benefit from being refreshed to make it worth the cost.

A lovely museum with lots to look at. Great for children and adults alike. Trip down memory lane with all the old toys.

Just a load of manikins with bear heads on and bear mittens. They are not cuddly bears by any stretch of the imagination. The bears feet are just like human feet which adds to the whole Frankenstein's monster eerie feel to the whole thing. Cramped house with bad karma.

Wouldn't rush to go back, especially with young children - it'll give them nightmares!
