Our family room was on 2nd floor, we had our 9 years old granddaughter with us. It was hard work having to climb 2 sets of stairs, the 2nd set curving steeply round, with our luggage. The fan in the bathroom was very noisy and a broken pane of glass in the window above our granddaughters bed was reported to reception within 10 minutes of our arrival. Neither problem had been addressed on leaving 2 days later. Dinner and breakfast service was very good, girls very helpful and pleasant.
Car park very poor, very small. We had to pay to park on the road.

Arrived for a three night stay, greeted very professionally by reception and shown to excellent room.
After a few drinks in the town returned to be served an excellent meal in the hotel restaurant, perfectly served by all staff involved.
Enjoyed an excellent nights sleep in the sumptuous four poster and woke in the morning to enjoy tea and biscuits and a read of the complementary newspaper.
Breakfast was an absolute delight served by bright young, well trained girls who showed excellent customer skills.
After all this what a fabulous weekend we had in store! No! We went out for a short walk and then Disaster, I tripped on some steps, suffering a very serious cut which required hospital treatment.
The outcome was that we were forced to return home immediately.
When we went back to the hotel the crisis was dealt with very professionally, so much so, we will return in the future.

Room Tip: No fitness or pool cannot cancel the rating! Go for the higher priced rooms good value

I would really have liked to give a rating of 4 because it is a great building (that with some care could be even better) and the staff were friendly. However, the food was a let down on both days we ate and the room had a broken extractor fan in the bathroom that emitted a terrible noise whenever it was on (and it had to be on whenever the bathroom was used as it was powered by the same cord as the light). The people upstairs made a hell of a noise continuously walking over creaking floorboards all night (what were they doing up there!).

Breakfast was good, however.

We often stay Here for one or two nights for a quick break as not too far from home. All the staff are friendly and attentive and nothing is too much trouble. We have stayed in the Honeymoon Suite as well as other rooms and they are all very clean and comfortable.
The food is excellent and the breakfasts are filling with a wide choice. Nick the Chef and his team produce fantastic dishes and we would recommend dinner.
We are always happy to go here to stay and see the staff who have become friends. Having stayed in many hotels this is one of the best.

Good location, very attentive and friendly staff.
First night stayed in 104, bed unbearably hard, very little sleep. All bed linen looked clean as did bathroom and rest of room, but was extremely dirty under the divan bed (only looked because my wife lost her ear-ring). All pillows of poor quality.
We complained in the morning and promised it would be resolved, which it was to our satisfaction and moved to another.
No thermostatic valves on showers, so temperature in over bath showers fluctuated.
Breakfast food quality average, but well served.
Ratings based on 1st room, as this is what the hotel thought was an acceptable quality.

Room Tip: Room 104 was small, very hard bed, bathroom tiny with extra small bath, water came out of the shower...

Spent 2 nights here. Lovely hotel in excellent location. Friendly, extremely helpful staff. Room clean but so hot. Not helped by heat wave and no air con. Initially put in room directly above kitchens but the heat was unbearable. After first night we asked to be moved and the management couldn't have been more obliging and put us in a super ground floor room in the courtyard. A downside is the lack of parking as the car park is tiny. 11 cars only. However we were lucky to get a space both days. Others weren't so fortunate. All in all a very enjoyable stay and i would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a reasonably priced smaller hotel in a convenient location. A suggestion- could air con be installed in each room?

Stayed in William templeton room. Stunning !!! Small but beautiful. Needs a little sprucing up in areas but for the price wonderful.
Staff great.... However we weren't shown to the room which was a fair distance from reception. Otherwise marvellous... Will be jack.
