“Ghost Town...”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Poundbury really is a lovely place to visit. There's a a park, a garden centre with a great place to eat and some really nice cafes and shops.
The problem is it just feels... empty. You feel as if you've walked into toy-town but nobody's there. If Poundbury really had a centre or a community it would be a lovely place to both visit and live, but at the moment it just feels a bit false for that.

“Poundbury Market first Saturday every month, Festival every year!”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Great experience! Music, kitchen cooking demos, lots of food, near to park with young children's play area, farmers market with some of the best meat ever, near to garden centre and cafés. Not to be missed.

If you have not been to see this it is a must do Saturday morning event. The yearly Festival is all day with music all day too.

“Prince Charles' town”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

In my view an architectural masterpiecew, though I know it is not everybody's cup of tea. Well laid out, clean and tidy (the residents are very particular about that), with an amazing array of houses and buildings everywhere, but, foir me it hangs together very well. NIce to stop and walk around, as well as a simple drive through - well worth it.

“Giant uper-class housing estate”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

There are no well-priced stores or sandwich shops in the area. It is mostly deserted but maybe that’s a good thing as the people of Poundbury are some of the most obnoxious people ever, which is amusing considering some of the half million pound houses back on to social housing! Having read some other reviews I would have to agree it is very much like a village that was abandoned many moons ago or an empty film set. When I first spotted it, it was odd because it looks like a town extension, you know, like when people get a PVC conservatory on a beautiful Georgian style home. Just wrong. The style of architecture is oddly colonial but in reality is just a housing estate with a face lift. The gardens are tiny and mostly in shade as no thought were given by the architect to plan a south facing gardens. There are so few shops its barley worth the trip out of Dorchester. If you do decide to have a ponder round the housing estate (though I am unsure why) make sure firstly to wear shoes you don’t mind getting wrecked (someone cut costs on the paving and instead of a resin based gravel path or just leaving it tarmacked they just dumped loose gravel everywhere, nightmare for shoes, wheelchairs and prams and terrifying when its windy!))Secondly make sure to visit the garden centre, especially at Christmas, it is a gem. Although because nobody has gotten round to putting up the statue and roundabout it is a bit of a driving hazard, but there are no road markings in Poundbury anyway so this is true for everywhere. Park in the middle of the road because if you park at the side of the road a Poundbury resident will undoubtedly leave a very rude note on your car telling you that you have parked in their space. No you have not; it is all free public parking, the only benefit to Poundbury! It does not have the right… anything to go with the town and clearly nobody has listened to the people of Dorchester about it. Time and money could have been invested into revamping the town itself which is beautiful already just a little outdated!
