“The Perfect Cottage”
Reviewed 19 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

I am writing this review following a third stay at Wren Cottage. Returning to this lovely cottage is very much like ‘coming home’. It is one of those places you rarely discover where everything is perfect.
In every respect a stay at Wren Cottage is ideal. It is clean, very well appointed, nicely located both within the village and the county of Dorset. Above all it is clear the owners take care to do everything they can to ensure your stay is enjoyable.
The nearby Martyrs Inn is an added bonus, with good food served by pleasant staff.
Dorset is a lovely county with many attractions and I cannot think of a better base than Wren Cottage to visit the County’s many charms.
Looking at previous reviews I see I am not alone in thinking Wren Cottage is excellent. The owners sister cottage, West Lane Cottage at Piddlehinton also gets excellent reviews which tells you far more than I ever can.
We left with regret we had not booked a longer stay.

I feel somewhat overwhelmed reading this! Thank you! It sounds cheesy, but I can't be on holiday in beautiful Dorset then the next best thing is allowing other people to enjoy it as much as we do. When our daughter was small, we used to regularly stay in a lovely cottage near Penzance and so I really know what you mean about "coming home". Because we use our cottages ourselves, we hope they are "home from home" to visitors as much as to us.

“Tranquil Retreat”
Reviewed 13 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Wren Cottage is a large, modern two bed house situated in the quiet village of Tolpuddle. The cottage is immaculate with a home from home feel. It has everything needed for a family self-catering holiday.
Al Fresco breakfasts were enjoyable in the sun trapped back garden :-)
The local pub serve delicious food and the drinks discount given made evenings out very affordable.
The local park offers something for all ages, my 11 & 14 year old sons enjoyed the mini basket ball court & footy goal.
Having spent some days visiting busier areas, Wren Cottage, Tolpuddle was welcome retreat at the end of the day.

It is so nice to hear back from people unprompted when they return from their holiday and to know what a good time they had. Thank you for taking the time to post here as well and pass on your thoughts to other potential holiday cottage travellers to West Dorset! We do try to provide all that is needed and have spent some time improving the interior and the gardens. It’s good to hear that your boys enjoyed the play area just over the road and that you all took advantage of our discount scheme with the Martrys Inn – so near and, as you say, offering excellent food. We hope you will be able to return.

“Child friendly mini break”
Reviewed 18 March 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We were so lucky to find Wren Cottage and it be available for the limited dates we had. A perfect holiday cottage in an idyllic village set in a very accessible location to all the Dorset "must sees". We have 2 and 5 year old girls and a miniature schnauzer and Wren Cottage was absolutely ideal for us. Beautifully decorated and very well equipped. Super comfy beds and my husband even said he preferred it to our bed at home! Lots of lovely fresh fluffy towels. A real home from home. The pub is well worth a visit, Mondays curry night was great value and the staff couldn't do enough for us.

Thanks so much for your review and for telling people how much you enjoyed both Wren Cottage and the village, including pub (it does offer great food and very reasonable prices doesn't it?) As you say, we are very well placed for visiting many of the great attractions in West Dorset and we have tried to make our cottage a real home from home and have not skimped on furnishings or equipment. We hope you can find the time to visit again some time!

What a nice surprise to read your review - thank you. We are so glad that you enjoyed the cottage and the area and it is so nice to hear that the shower room is a success! We thought it best to offer the choice of a leisurely bath or a super shower and we hope we have made the best use of the former 3rd bedroom! We are so lucky to have a good pub on the doorstep and many visitors comment on how good the service is there - we hope you made use of the Athelhampton membership card to get your discount. Mind you, there are so many great pubs in the vicinity - you'll have to come back again!!

Wren Cottage is beautiful home from home, very well equipped, comfortable & cosy. The cottage is tastefully decorated, soft towels, nice bed linen, comfortable beds. Plenty of space for a family of four. Our daughter and son loved the village park and open space.
The cottage is well situated in a quiet close off an A road which now has a bypass. Excellent for touring around Purbeck & Swanage, Dorchester, Poole, Sandbanks.
Great local pub with delicious specials evenings and lots of fantastic places to eat. There are plenty of places to site see, great beaches and beautiful scenery.
We would definitely stay at Wren a Cottage again! Thank you.

“lovely cottage”

A lovely cottage very well situated for touring Dorset. The cottage (well, modern house really!) is very well equipped and comfortable. Kitchen/diner and lounge downstairs, and 2 bedrooms upstairs with a bathroom and a shower room (not ensuite, but just outside each bedroom). The only thing I found odd here was that only the bathroom had a toilet; the shower room did not, which I have never encountered before! However there was a second toilet downstairs.
We found all our dealings with the owner (phone or email) to be very welcoming and efficient, and the cottage had masses of leaflets/books/maps about the local area. Free wi-fi as well - very helpful as I didn't have a very good mobile signal (O2).
The village of Tolpuddle is extremely quiet. No shop (closest one is 2 miles away); but with a very nice pub - the staff were extremely friendly. I can recommend the Monday curry night - all you can eat plus a drink for under a tenner - great value! We also went back another night and ate from the main menu. Nearest supermarket is in Dorchester.
Places we enjoyed visiting nearby (all within 30mins or less) were Monkey World, Swanage Railway (plus Swanage), Corfe Castle, Kingston Lacy (national trust), Weymouth, Dorchester and Kingston Maurward.

Thanks for taking the time to post a review and for passing on your comments about the cottage, the local pub and the area generally.

We created the new shower room from the third bedroom and when planning it we thought that three toilets in a 2 bedroom house was perhaps unnecessary and decided, on balance, that guests might prefer to have a nice spacious room instead.

It is good to hear that you thought the cottage well equipped and I certainly try to keep up with the Tourist information Office with regard to what is available to do in the area!
