Description: The Wise Man is where traditional village pub meets rustic gastro cuisine. Situated in the heart of the pretty village of West Stafford, only two miles from Dorchester, Philip and the team ensure a friendly welcome to all and will endeavour to make your visit a memorable one. We are also close to Hardy's Cottage which can be enjoyed on one of the many beautiful walks or popular cycle routes in the area. Our head chef Leigh leads a passionate team who endeavour to create great flavours and experiences. All of our dishes are made in house using the freshest ingredients and where possible we always buy local and in season. To sum up our menu its a collision of world flavours with rural Dorset and Great British Classics.

I visited here on holiday with my wife and two daughters.
The service was friendly and very good,
We all ordered different meals and were impressed with the quality.
Came here about 3 years ago it was very good then and still is.
Highly recommended.

We went to this pub on a Friday night .
All the food was home made and delicious.
We had a baked camembert ,home made bread and cranberry sauce to start. Which was yummy and sociable eating. My husband had a home made pork pie which was very special.
For main course I had sole pan fried with prawns butter. This was cooked to perfection . The men had fish and chips with him e made mushy peas, tartar sauce and chunky chips. Good British pub fare well presented and yummy. They would have this again. My friend had chicken supreme which she reported was good but I thought it looked rather unexciting.
We were greedy and had salted chocolate brownie with caramel ice cream with caramelized banana. In the words of Michael Winner "historic"
We would return. Our friends run a B and B and would recommend to guests.
For 4 people we spent 130 pound. We had white wine spritzers and the men drank 3pints each!
To be honest we ate far too much and the camambert was very filling. All however needed to be tested!

This is a lovely pub in a pretty Dorset village. I had the best steak I have had in ages. The menu was varied and even the sandwiches looked great. The desserts are to die for! The service was outstanding. Probably our favourite in the area.
Fabulous food, good beer and great service.

West Stafford is a very attractive village just 2 - 3 miles west of Dorchester and the Wise Man is a tremendous example of how a traditional village pub can be changed into a first class place to enjoy a meal and drink in very pleasent surroundings. We visit Dorset only 4 times a year but have developed the habit of having lunch at the Wise Man. It is easy to park your car and when the weather is warm and sunny there is a pleasent and well maintained beer garden at the back of the Wise Man.

Inside the Wise Man is smart and well decorated. The bar serves a great selection of top class beers and ciders including Sharps and Timothy Taylors - so beer enthusiats will be happy. The service is friendly, cheerful and very efficient which coupled with a well designed menu and meals that are well cooked and beautifully presented leads to a very satisfying experience. You can easily enjoy 2 courses and a round of drinks for £40 to £45 at lunchtime.
