“Luxurious B&B accomodation in a historic family home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

The hospitality that Andrew and Mulu Thomson gave us made our three day stay at The Old Manor a real treat. A very comfortable bed, delicious breakfasts and the attention to detail in their spectacular Elizabethan home was made even more special when, after a long days walking, we were able to indulge in a back massage from Mulu in her treatment room.

This beautifully kept and historically fascinating manor house was a pleasure to stay in. It was a privilege to stay in such a place. The rooms were stylishly and well appointed, and comfortable; the breakfasts were very good; the owners very accommodating and welcoming. I would recommend this usefully located place (just outside Dorchester) to anybody and would certainly stay here again.

They gave us some good tips on where to visit and where to eat. One useful tip they gave us: if visiting the Abbotsbury Gardens (maybe the most wonderful gardens I have ever visited), have lunch in the one hotel/restaurant/pub in West Bexington and walk the low route (parallel to the seashore) to Abbotsbury (took us one hour).

I have to agree with all the other 5 star reviews, this really is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed for 1 night and used it for a quick trip to visit the wonderful Dorset coast. The rooms are wonderful with beautiful antiques and all very clean. I think that power shower in the bathroom is one of the best that I have ever used. As other people have mentioned the hosts are very friendly and I enjoyed spending time chatting to Andrew. The grounds are wonderful and it is well worth taking some time to walk around the lake. We certainly plan to go back next winter if only to see the wonderful fireplace in use!

My husband and I spent one night here whilst exploring the Dorset coast. Our hosts, Mulu and Andrew, were friendly and made us feel very welcome. The Manor has a fascinating history and our room was charming....but chilly. My husband, a hardy northerner, never usually feels the cold but even he suffered despite the extra heater in the room! Likewise, I did not make use of the adjoining bathroom because it was so very cold.
Our room had pleasant views across the garden and was wonderfully peaceful. We slept well. The breakfast was superb (the scambled eggs were delicious) and plentiful.
One slight disappointment was not to have made use of the sitting room in the evening. Our hosts had guests and although told that we were most welcome to join them, we felt slightly awkward about intruding.
Apparently The Old Manor was only days from demolition back in the 1960s when it was 'rescued'. It's great that it has been brought back to life and restored so sympathetically- hopefully to be enjoyed for many more generations to come.

We booked a room here for our wedding night and a place for myself and bridesmaids to get ready. We mainly choose it to start with because of its proximity to our wedding venue. However, once we arrived we could see what an extra special hotel/B&B this truly is. We booked the Maurward Sutie, well what a spectacular room this is, not only was there a four poster bed but a separate seating area. Making plenty of room for the four of to get ready and provided some stunning preparation pictures. We were greeted on arrival by the wonderful owners, who had already received my wedding flowers and our lunch before we had arrived. Ours bags were carried to our room and collected the next morning, when we were ready to leave. After the wedding we were told to come to the front door and ring the bell, where we were met by Mulu, who had waited up for us and escoted us to our room. The breakfasts are to die for, I highly recommend the scrambled egg, best ever...

I could rave on about this stunning old house but simple you have to try it to understand.
