5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2011

When we arrived at The rectory we received a warm and friendly reception from Caroline who went out of her way with tips and advice regarding places to eat and things to see. The room was very comfortable, though not large. The breakfast was excellent. Thoroughly recommend this B&B.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Old Rectory. What an amazing place!
Caroline and Gordon are fantastic hosts....so welcoming. The house is beautiful and has a separate lounge for guests to relax in. We stayed in the 4 poster Dorchester Room which was spacious and very well appointed with a large en-suite bathroom. The bed was probably the most comfortable we've ever slept in!
The breakfasts were lovely and taken in the conservatory. We even saw a deer in the garden on our last morning.
The village is situated just off the A35 which gives quick and easy access to local attractions. We visited so many places in the time we were there. Nothing seemed to be more than a 30 minute drive away.
There are two excellent places to eat within a 20 minute drive (The Greyhound and Yalbury Cottage). Both are well worth reserving a table.
Dorset has so much to see and do. The Old Rectory is a perfect place to stay to explore all the area has to offer.
Very highly recommended!

My wife and I stayed here after our wedding and it was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. We were able to drop our car and luggage off early on the saturday before our stay which was very helpful. The breakfast was very nice with a wide choice and the house was well appointed and tastefully decorated. Will probably stay again next year!

This house has been tastefully refurbished to provide a high standard of accommodation. Our room (The Sherborne) was spacious, as was the en-suite bathroom - unlike some B&Bs where they have been squeezed into a tiny space.

What made our visit so enjoyable was the friendly welcome from Caroline who always had time to discuss the merits of local restaurants or advise on places to visit. The excellent breakfasts in the conservatory make a great start to the day and provide a chance to tap into Caroline's local knowledge before finalising your plans for the day.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay in a beautiful Dorset village (though lacking a local pub) The Old Rectory must be at the top of your list.

An excellent place to stay clean, friendly, a home from home. Caroline was very helpful with places to eat and places to visit. A great breakfast, a wide choice. Tea & coffee in room everyday.

Lovely setting and house. Very welcoming family and a huge effort made for guests. But, the mattress was worn out and needs replacing and despite being tastefully decorated, the room and bathroom were a bit pokey. Breakfast was good but would have liked more choice of breads. A very good place but definitely not the best we have been to.

We have bought a new bed and redecorated this room over the winter. Unfortunately we can't make the room any bigger but not bad for £70 per night!

My husband and I stayed at the Old Rectory for four nights after we got married (our 'mini-moon') and we had a wonderful stay. The Old Rectory is a lovely building in a beautiful rural setting. We stayed in the Dorchester room (with the four poster bed) and it was fabulous - spacious, luxurious and very comfortable. Breakfast in the conservatory was great (we couldn't help over-eating!).

Caroline was a perfect, charming host and provided great advice on places to see/visit and suggestions for pubs and restaurants. Everything she suggested was just the sort of thing we were after. Also, she very kindly chilled our champagne when we asked and was brilliant when, having finished our break and returned home, I had carelessly left some make-up behind - Caroline e-mailed to let me know and posted it back straight away.

With Caroline's help we were able to make the most of the location in beautiful Dorset and could have stayed a lot longer as there was still loads of places/attractions we would have liked to have visited, but we ran out of time.

Without doubt this is the best B&B we've stayed in and we hope to visit again very soon.
