We were very pleased to have followed the previous reviews for the Old Rectory as it certainly lives up to them. Our room (Dorchester) had a beautiful four poster, a good size bathroom and two lovely easy chairs well positioned for enjoying the view into the garden. Breakfasts were lovely and there were helpful recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Would stay here again.

My partner and I were getting married near Dorchester and wanted somewhere peaceful, beautiful and away from the family (!) for the wedding night. In the run-up to the big day, I messed Caroline around with how and when we would pick up the keys - she was very patient and good humoured. The room was faultless and the house is fantastic. Hope to find an excuse to stay there again.

I feel so fortunate to have found this little gem of a hotel. Especially since many hotels sadly state 'no children'. Well, this hotel is very welcoming. We; myself, my husband and 5 year old son really enjoyed our two night stay there. Caroline welcomed us all upon arrival and it's clear why they get so booked up so early on. It's a beautiful hotel, decorated to a very high standard. There are beautifully maintained grounds to explore, and we were able to enjoy the evening sunshine whilst picnicking in the garden.

The breakfast was good and Caroline looks after her guests well.

The hotel is well located for exploring the beautiful Jurassic Coastline and Caroline has a good knowledge of the area recommending good routes and places of interest.

We'll definitely visit again!

This is the second time in 2 months that we have stayed with caroline and Gordon. Despite having family in the area, this is even better! As hostess, Caroline is wonderful, and we have been made so very welcome.
The first time we stayed was for a family birthday in Dorchester, (no room in the family inns!!)and despite having one body too many, Caroline managed to accommodate my grandson in her own daughter's bedroom (while she wes away). That just shows haw accommodating she can be. It was fantastic having the whole family together, and we didn't hesitae to book again when another family occasion cropped up. I just wonder how many more family events we can conjure up, so we have an excuse to stay again!!
Actually, that's not the point - I would want to stay anytime.
I should add that this area is where I grew up and went to school , and nostalgia plays a big part.
The Old Rectory, Caroline and Gordon add to that

My husband and I have just returned from a three night stay at The Old Rectory B&B. We can sum up our experience in one word. Delightful. Caroline {and Gordon} made us feel welcome from arriving on their doorstep. Caroline is a wonderful hostess and full of knowledge of the local area.
The property is situated in a chocolate box village, within lovely grounds. Our room "The Abbotsbury" was large, clean, well fitted out, with a good selection on the beverage tray. The bathroom was "decadent". Breakfast was superb, with a choice of fruit juices, fruits, cereals, full English breakfast, toast and tea or coffee. No need to leave the table feeling hungry. The booking procedure was simple, with a quick response.
Thank you Caroline, for making us so welcome. You have a beautiful home.

Caroline certainly makes you feel welcome.
Our room was very clean and well decorated.
We enjoyed our breakfast but would have preferred 'proper' bread to sliced! Perhaps we are knit picking but we have our own bread maker and like fresh bread.

Room Tip: You could have a family room with a 4 poster but we prefer a more modern room.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay. The Old Rectory is a really top class, comfortable B and B. Caroline is the owner, and nothing is too much trouble. She is friendly, thoughtful, and accommodating - a really good 'people person'. It's obvious that she loves her business and her guests. Not only was the room spotlessly clean, it was also beautifully appointed with quirky little windows, and a lovely en-suite with a large shower. As if this was not enough there is also a comfortable, large, but cosy sitting room with lovely furniture and a good sized TV.The prices may be a tiny bit more than some B and B's but represents really good value for money. If you want to relax in beautiful Dorset then look no further. You will not do better!

Room Tip: You cannot go wrong with any room. We had the Sherborne.
