“Quite simply the best Bed and Breakfast I have ever stayed in!”
Reviewed 14 July 2010

We only stayed for two nights but the next time we visit it will be for longer! The house itself is in a fabulous location in a very pretty little village but only a short drive away from all the 'sights'. The stone house is stunning to look at from the outside and has been refurbished by the current owners to a very high standard. The room (we stayed in the Sherbourne) was beautiful, well dressed and immaculately clean. The en suite shower room was spotless and very tastefully decorated. The breakfasts are superb - lots to choose from, locally sourced produce and well cooked! I liked the fact that there was a toaster in the breakfast conversatory so you could make as much as you wanted, at whatever time you wanted. Caroline is a superb hostess, who is not only friendly but has an excellent knowledge of the area and is able to point out many hidden gems which you may have otherwise missed. Sadly, our stay ended far too soon but we will definitely be going back soon!

My wife and I were made to feel most welcome. Our room ( the Dorchester ) was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent. During our long lives ( we are in our 70s ) and our travel all around the world this was one of the very best places to stay.

What a wonderful place. Caroline immediately makes you feel welcome the moment you open the gate. Nothing is too much trouble. Her vast local knowledge ensures that you see all the best stuff and eat in all the right places. Caroline is someone who truly loves what she does, and this is reflected in the attention to detail in her characterful home.

Our room was comfortable with a bathroom that was decadent! The breakfast was yummy!

Given the chance, We'll be back...........

We have just returned from a week at this lovely establishment. We agree with all but one of the revues (no pleasing some people) and the photos on trip advisor just do not do it justice (see owners web pages instead). Nothing is too much trouble for the Wakeford family and the only disappointment is having to go home!
Book this one before the Americans find it...

This is a tasteful conversion of an impressive Victorian rectory with an outlook over lovely gardens. The accommodation is spotlessly clean & comfortable - especially the Dorchester with its four-poster bed & we were served an excellent breakfast by Caroline, the exceptionally friendly & helpful hostess. A wonderful place to stay.

The Old Rectory ranks among the top of the B & B's we have found:
Hosts were absolutely wonderful - warm, friendly & very helpful - even helped paint out a scratch on our rental car!
Dorchester room & ensuite were beautiful
Breakfast was great & served in the "conservatory" - which faces the courtyard
Booking from overseas was easy - email communication was prompt & efficient
Location - very pretty surrounds & close to Dorchester & Maiden Castle

Was looking for somewhere in the Dorset area to go during the Half term week. Saw a picture of The Old Rectory and thought it looked nice so gave them a call to see if they could accomodate the four of us. Caroline was very friendly and accomodating so I went with my gut instint and booked two nights and wasnt dissapointed with my decision. The house is beautiful and Caroline couldnt have been a better host. I would definately recommend it, also ate at Yalbury Cottage and The Greyhound, both were lovely.
