“Very enjoyable stay”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

My partner and I and her parents stayed at the Eastbury for her birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We stayed as part of a Travelzoo deal which incorporated a "gourmet" dinner experience. This was excellent and the service was attentive and professional. In fact service was excellent at all times staring with a very helpful and friendly yet professional receptionist on arrival through to the equally good service at breakfast. I thoroughly recommend this hotel. I do note some of the less positive comments and can not comment on others experiences except to say they seem to date from a much earlier period. The only caveat I would add, in fairness, is that the bathroom in the room in which we stayed (Michaelmas) has, as someone says in an early review, a lowish ceiling. No problem for us but if you are tallish you might want to clarify points such as this when booking. A lovely hotel in a very good position in an equally lovely small English country town.

We stayed at The Eastbury Hotel for two nights during June 2012. The hotel is very well situated and has lovely gardens. It has charming character and the staff are very friendly. Our bedroom although spacious was partly in the roof and the entrance to the room rather awkward; there was no view from any of the windows and by that we mean the windows had obscured glass. The water pressure was very poor and a bath took a long time to fill; we resorted to having showers as there was a separate shower cubicle in the room. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel very clean. We ate dinner one night in the restaurant and the quality of the food was very good although the portions rather on the small side. The breakfast choice was somewhat limited for a hotel of this star rating. A couple of the items had "run out" but were replenished without fuss. We would stay there again due to its location and general ambience.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view overlooking the gardens and check on water pressure.

Requested a room change due to noisy fan sound from kitchen chimney adjacent to room. Our requested was met with the minimum of fuss. All staff are friendly and attentive. Meals were excellent.

Room Tip: Anemone room was a top floor large attic room. Lots of space and large bathroom with walk in shower...

Ok so this has taken a while to post as i was taken here a few weeks back. Overall i had a very enjoyable stay. I know that these words are not my usual gushing or trouncing language that have used in reviews, but in reality it was enjoyable.

The food: The umpteen course tasting menu was out of this world and the wines that accompanied the food were generous and well thought out) and the breakfast was also great.
Rooms: have to say that certain parts of the room where looking tired
Staff: overall exceptional levels of service

The one gripe I have was that the wifi does not work in all the hotel, which for me is a little annoying…. Gripe over …

This is a really great base to explore the lovely town of Sherborne and its surroundings. The staff and owners were very welcoming, warm and friendly; the food in the restaurant is Michelin standard; the walled garden and outside seating are perfect for a warmer day and the room we stayed in was first class. Having stayed there on a number of occasions it is worth knowing that the rooms vary considerably in size and suitability depending on your needs, and the owners and ethos are very child friendly. In short, an extremely well run and cosy hotel that means we return time and time again.

Lovely Hotel, with Lovely Gardens. Stayed in the Tamarix Room which was lovely and quiet although should have a blackout blind at the bathroom window. Staff were very friendly. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Eastbury last week as part of a Travelzoo deal. The hotel itself is lovely, with beautiful gardens at the back. We stayed in the Jasmine room - while it wasn't totally immaculate (the odd scuff and stain here and there), it was well presented and offered everything we could ask for. Plenty of room, comfy bed, shower with plenty of oomph.

The seven course tasting menu was gorgeous, seriously quality cooking. We were impressed. Breakfast was really tasty too, and the staff were all friendly. All in all an excellent stay, would highly recommend to others who fancy visiting the area or trying the restaurant.
