“Fabulous break but some improvements needed!”

Stayed here for an annual get together of 5 families with 5 children between us. Stayed at Easter 2017 for a midweek break.

I'll start by saying the barn is modern, comfortable, spacious and has luxurious bedrooms. It has amazing views from the master bedroom. Its the first let EVER that I haven't felt the need to clean or have a little wipe round and also the first bed I haven't wanted to leave and my own bed felt uncomfortable when I got home!!!

Received a fantastic welcome by Annie and had a fabulous time overall. The farm is surrounded by huge fields which Annie kindly let us use (thank you!). So we held a sports day, played rounders, football and frisbee! Pack everything if you have children! The children in our party 'camped' in the converted barn on airbeds as we had hired the whole property.

There was more than enough space for everyone to have privacy and more bathrooms than I was able to count. The cost was extremely reasonable and competitive to say so much thought and cost has gone into making this accessible for the highest disability access and needs (one of our party is disabled).

However, I have to say my negatives are;
- There should be a key for absolutely every door in the property and multiple sets of keys available for everyone to use. There are only two sets?! We had an unfortunate incident where we could not secure the barn due to no key on any keyring for a door that was left open, maybe by the owners/cleaners, meaning two of our party missed out on our only day out into Weymouth. We were unable to contact Annie all day until very late on the evening after ringing the whole village from the welcome book. This is wholly unacceptable. I am sure it is against fire regs as the door was lit up as a fire door so should it have been locked then we would not have had a key to get out in the event of a fire. Anyhow, apologies were accepted but this really must be taken on board for obvious reasons. A friend of the owners came to the rescue around 10pm with a spare key. A bit too late but we were thankful of their time.
- There is no owners mobile number in the welcome book!!! Say no more. Landlines are in the past nowadays.
- It would be helpful to have MUCH larger fridge/freezers in both properties since it caters for very large numbers. We struggled with freezer space, two tiny freezer boxes aren't enough.
- The cupboards really need to just be cleared and have space in them to put shopping away. Every cupboard was full of bits and bats and we have to re jig to put basics away such as bread. More irritating than anything else.
- There are no large wheelie bins and no clear instructions on waste disposal in the welcome book apart from someone 'may' come on a Tuesday or maybe a Friday... Who knows?! Good to see recycling though which we used.
-Some of the sofas in the larger property need replacing as they are not comfortable and have smelt better (sorry).
- If hiring the whole property there is no large sitting area. We carried all the sofas into the larger property kitchen and made it work. If the weather was bad we may have had a problem. The large converted barn is massively under used!! This could be a fantastic space for large groups hiring the whole place and ought to be considered.
- Please be more clear on what is provided ie loo rolls, washing powder & softener, dishwasher tablets, milk, homemade cake etc. This is a selling point and we brought un-necessary items.
- On the same note, owners own website needs WORK. Managed to search several other sites (air bnb etc) just to get more pictures and basic info to decide if to book or not. Website is out of date, lacks photos and lacks basic info.
- I waited well over a week to hear back about the £400 damage deposit and had to send two emails. We left the property pristine.
- A large BBQ would be ideal and is really expected in a holiday house let these days.

We had a lovely time and did consider returning in 2018 but we ultimately decided to book elsewhere. As two lets, I imagine this is idyllic but I'm not sure the organisation and set up to hire the whole house for a very big group is quite there yet.

The bedroom linens, towels, garden, interiors (except sofas!) All top end quality.

We had a lovely time and would recommend to anyone but please take the above into consideration!!

Thank you for having us Annie.

We loved this holiday cottage. Excellent wheelchair facilities for me and lots of space for two active grandchildren to run round. The setting in beautiful Dorset countryside is beautiful, especially the views from the living room and master bedroom.

“A very peaceful environment and good disable facilities”

The accommodation was ideal for my two children in wheelchairs, wished we ordered a bath trolley for showering but that is something you can do. The owner was lovely and helpful.

“Simply fabulous....”

I can not think of anything myself and my family did not like about this rental. We stayed as an extended family group for my son's wedding. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to ask me!
We've made all sorts of plans to go back another time....but realistically life tends to get in the way of such large family gatherings.

“Ideal for a large group”
Reviewed 31 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We booked both parts of this property for a holiday with our extended family. The quality, location and design of the property are outstanding. It is very quiet and in the morning we could watch flocks of birds and deer from our bedroom.
Tips:
In our other rental properties we have been provided with tea, coffee, milk etc. on arrival. Here you need to bring your own starter pack.
Harts, a general store in Sturminster Newton, is worth a visit. Also in Sturminster Newton, Comins Tea House has an interesting range of teas, and just outside Sturminster Newton Olives et al. has foods extending well beyond olives and olive oil.
Further afield, Mere is the base for the French wine specialists, Yapps. It is also close to the gardens at Stourhead.
