The Meadow View Barn is ideal for everyone. I went there with my 10 year old daughter and we had a wonderful and relaxing time. The cottage is in excellent condition, with all amenities you could want. Very well equipped and delightfully furnished; we really felt comfortable and at home.
Its in a little hamlet that is ideally situated between Sherborne and Yeovil and has good access to anywhere else you would like to visit.
We would definitely come back here again and thoroughly recommend it ...... 5*.

“Charming, great location”

Over Compton is more a hamlet than a village, half way between Sherborne and Yeovil, and very picturesque. Meadow View Barn is one of three properties within a barn conversion, next to a fairly quiet single track road which leads to Nether Compton.

Downstairs, accessed through patio doors from the small garden area to the front (with table, chairs and charcoal BBQ), is a living/dining room with open plan kitchen. There's a widescreen TV with home cinema system and the now-mandatory wifi. The kitchen offers plenty of space for holiday cooking, and there's enough space to stretch out in the living area although the sofas are small and rather firm.

Upstairs, the master bedroom has a 5 foot wide bed and ample clothes storage, while the second bedroom has two single beds (twin beds to North Americans) and a wardrobe. The alarm clock/radio in the master is also an iPod dock, and an excellent touch is a universal phone charger stuck into its USB port.

The sole bathroom has an average sized bathtub (shower over bath) and is slightly lacking in storage space by the sink. The fact that there is only one bathroom makes Meadow View Barn most suitable, I think, for couples rather than families with children. The narrowness and steepness of the staircase might bother the less mobile.

The centre of Yeovil is only 3 miles away (though Yeovil traffic is heavy, so it can take a while to get through the town), not that you'd know it from the tranquility of the barn. The road outside is currently covered in gravel, awaiting resurfacing, so it's a little noisy if you're sitting outside but should be quieter once the roadwork is complete. The patio was pretty good for stargazing of an evening, and during the day you might get a visit from the local peahen. One evening, we were visited by a young, friendly cat.

The owners use the property themselves, so a decent amount of thought has gone into making it a livable place to be. The only major downsides were the bedding and mattresses, which were somewhat "budget" and trampoline-like (enough so that my wife and I could not share the master bed - if one of us turned over, it affected the other hugely), and the towels, which were simply not very absorbent. We ended up buying our own bath towels from M&S in Yeovil!

I would certainly recommend Meadow View Barn to couple, with the proviso that if you're picky about mattress quality you might feel a bit let down. As a location, it was fabulous and we really do miss it.

This is a great self catering holiday hire. Everything is there you would need plus so many extras. Everything was spotlessly clean. The owners are incredibly helpful and communicative. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Liked best: Better than we had expected. This always helps!
Liked least: Parking, can be tricky, there is an allocated space but it is up against a wall and needs some manoeuvring. But this is really being picky.

“Exceptional Accomodation in a Lovely Area”
Reviewed 11 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

I stayed for a weekend at Meadow View Barn with my partner and our two children aged 5 and 6 we wanted to get away for a couple of days to relax after a busy few weeks and this was a perfect choice.

We arrived late in the evening and were immediately impressed when we opened the door and walked into the Barn, the accommodation was spotlessly clean and there was a lovely welcome pack waiting for us. The downstairs area is all open plan and informally divided into a family living area with a TV with a free sat box, DVD player and WII console, dining area with a large table and six chairs and a fully equipped kitchen including a dishwasher & washing machine. The kitchen has everything that you can possibly need when being in self-catering accommodation and there are plenty of glasses, plates and cooking utensils etc.

Upstairs is equally as impressive with two bedrooms and a large family bathroom. The main bedroom can easily accommodate another bed without any issues and also has a TV with free sat box, DVD player and IPOD docking station. There is a second bedroom with two single beds and a spacious family bathroom. Both bedrooms have plenty of storage space for clothes and our girls loved their bedroom and immediately set about finding homes for their clothes and toys. The Barn is very tastefully decorated In neutral colours and everything matches and works well together and is in keeping with character of the Barn. We tried and tested everything during our stay at the Barn and it stood up to everything very well including having four showers in a row and still having plenty of hot water at the end. I also noticed additional equipment that you could use if you had a young baby such as a travel cot and high chair.

As it was dark when we arrived we were looking forward to finding out in the morning what the area was like around the barn and we were not disappointed. Meadow View Barn sits at the end of a block of 3 barns in a very quiet drive where the only other cars going past are those belonging to the other two Barns, there is a main road that passes the Barn but again this is very quiet and there is more traffic from horses than cars ! The Barn has a lovely gated courtyard area with a table and chairs and a BBQ and you could imagine sitting outside in the summer having a BBQ and enjoying the sunshine. Our two girls loved playing in the courtyard and because of the large windows in the Barn you could see them playing whilst being inside. On the Saturday morning we decided to take a walk to a local deli, the walk was very picturess going past some lovely houses and a very pretty church. The deli is members only and there is a card amongst the information pack that you just need to take with you. The deli sells all sorts of home made items including ready meals, bread and cakes etc along with cheeses, meats, wine and a whole variety of other goods.

During our stay we visited the Haynes Motor Museum which is undergoing major refurbishment at the moment but still a good place to visit for a couple of hours and some activities for the children to do whilst you go around the various exhibitions, this will be a great place to go later on in the year when the refurbishment is completed, we also spent a lovely afternoon at Weymouth Beach which was very easy to get too and only a short drive away.

We found the Barn very well equipped in a lovely location with lots of places nearby to visit most of which you can find information about in the information pack provided , we look forward to visiting the Barn again in the summer to explore the area more and enjoy the courtyard in the sunshine and we would recommend it for families as well as couples wanting a holiday retreat.

“A great place to stay in the Dorset countryside”

The barn is in a lovely quiet village ideally situated to visit lots of places in Dorset, Somerset and Devon. There is a great deli within short walking distance which sells lovely gourmet food and wine.

The accommodation is contemporary, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped. The pretty courtyard garden was a great sun trap.

There was a lovely welcome basket of goodies, and wine and milk in the fridge when we arrived which was a nice touch.

The booking process was easy and the owners friendly and helpful.

We will definitely go again.
