Great to have found the B&B Bakehouse which is on the same street as my son prep-school. The owners were just a lovely Familly that I really appreciate chatting with during the breakfast. The room is super clean and comfortable and that will be for sure the place where I will stay when visiting Sherborne in the future. Thank you very much for your kindness.
Best,
Siham & Nabil

We stayed one night at The Bakehouse, visiting nearby friends. We were welcomed by Malcolm the proprietor who went out of his way to help us and make our visit a complete success. There were three of us - my wife, young daughter and I. Our upstairs room was warm and comfortable and honestly a bit quirky too. The place has been furnished by someone interested in collecting interesting antique articles, so impressive oil paintings adorn the walls, and the beds don't match or conform - but are very clean and comfortable. This is an ancient building and quirky with it, but the shower worked perfectly; there was a proper kettle and plenty of milk for tea. With four beds, an antique wardrobe and a massive tv, the room looked a bit cramped, but there was plenty of room really. If you like sanitised order and regimentation, then this may not be your cup of tea. But if you want good creature-comforts, in a bit of a rustic but clean setting then this should suit you. Breakfast was delicious, with great service and plenty of tea. We will be back!

I don't think I've ever written a bad review, because I research places carefully and always get it pretty right. But this place was a huge disappointment. For 80 pounds it was a rip-off, frankly - it hurts me to say this, because Malcolm and his wife seemed sincere and pleasant, and I don't like to not be nice....but this is the worst place I've stayed since I was in my 20s and unable to afford better. From the dirty, manky, unvacuumed carpet to the thin towels to the foam mattress (not inner-spring), it just has a depressing air of decrepitude and unloved-ness. I spent the first half-hour after I arrived wondering if I was going to be able to take it - it was that bad. And I looked up the TripAdvisor reviews and wondered how I had been so deceived - I just can't believe that people would say 'good value', because I've been staying in B&Bs all over the south-west of England in the past week and I've never paid more than 65 pounds for really lovely, homely, cared-for places. I was expecting something pretty good for 80+ pounds a night! This is not actually a B&B, it's a 'cheap hotel' in style - the thin towels, foam mattress, unloved carpet, cheap gimcrack furniture (wobbly cheap cane tables) all reminded me of that style. It seriously makes me doubt the veracity of some of the TripAdvisor reviews. I was also kept awake by the owner's son till after 11pm (he seems to sleep in whichever room isn't being used) who was on a loud Skype call or something till I banged on the wall to give him the hint that other people were trying to sleep. I could go on, but won't. I love old and characterful B&Bs (and have lived in Victorian-era houses in Australia for much of my life) - this isn't one of them.

Room tip: Go somewhere else, or negotiate a very cheap rate

every now and then you can get one of these you get one of these reviews , ! its a shame but clearly this woman has some issues with us , i am very happy with the state of this place and consider the review unfair and not true ,she arrived late and very agitated , could not find us ,, wheres the f...king car park , it that dog safe ? it went on . in our defence the rooms are freshly painted , the carpets are six months old , as for my son , hes across the corridor from us , hes 9 yrs old and asleep at 8 pm , we tried our best to placate her but clearly she should have gone to a higher grade b and b ,she stayed 2 nights so had ample chance to change her bed and breakfast but she didnt , so why stay 2 nights ? anyway we are sorry she didnt like it here and wish her well

This is a lovely BnB in a very characterful house. The owners (and their dog!) were very welcoming and friendly. It's very near the Abbey and Sherborne high street. Everything was clean and comfortable.

Stayed for one night. A very nice room and a comfortable bed. An excellent breakfast. All very near the centre of Sherborne but quiet and easy to access. No parking but it's fairly easy to find a spot on the street nearby.
