We're not used to B&Bs but I suspect we're spoilt - this was a superb B&B. Decor and ambience is immaculate and the room excellent. A very comfortable bed and quality shower/ ensuite. Breakfasts are excellent - we didn't need lunch four days running! Sue is a wonderful hostess - she is smashing and it means the world to her that you enjoy your stay. We did!

My wife and I booked A Great Escape on the back of a short review in The Times. The journalist mentioned some extra unusual touches and he was not wrong. I have never before stayed in a B and B with a fridge in the room, supplied with fresh milk, water and chocolates replenished daily. Fresh milk just makes the morning tea taste so much better than the usual fare of UHT.
The Hotel was refurbished about 2 years ago and our room was spotless, decorated in neutral colours. Bathroom included a modern walk in shower, tiled throughout, with more than adequate pressure. The bed was very comfortable and the linen fresh cotton. We were in the attic which got a little hot but without any asking on our oart, our host, Sue, delivered a fan to make the temperature more bearable.
Talkng of Sue, she could not have made us more welcome and was genuinely interested in making our stay in Swanage as enjoyable as possible. We took her up on 2 of her restaurant suggestions for dinner.
Breakfast menu was varied with Traditional cooked accompanied by juices, cereal, toast and tea or coffee.
All in all a very comfortable and pleasant stay at a lovely Guest House that we would not hesitate to recommend.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend at A Great Escape; Sue was the perfect hostess and we cannot fault a single thing! Hospitality, breakfast, cleanliness, decor and comfort were all A*. We only wish we could have stayed longer, maybe next time...... :)

Looking at previous reviews there's very little else we can add to make this B&B sound any better as everything has already been said and we agree with all of it! We arrived during one of Swanage's busiest weeks (Regatta & Carnival week) and still managed to get parked near the B&B which proves it's the perfect distance from the town - No parking issues and only a short walk into the town centre.

Sue was the perfect host and very obviously cares about her guests complete satisfaction and is very informative about local events, places to go, things to do etc. Breakfast was lovely and she was even happy to to provide a packed breakfast for the scuba divers that were with us who needed to leave slightly earlier than the normal breakfast service hours and would have otherwise missed breakfast altogether.

We would definitely recommend and return again to this great little B&B

Sue was so welcoming, as was our room. Lots of little extras that make all the difference to a stay, like chilled water in the fridge and a large selection of drinks to make. Sue took great pride in making us welcome and telling us about the area. Her breakfast was outstanding too. Can't think of anything that wasn't "outstanding". Thanks Sue, and Tony too.

We wanted a truly "English" holiday in the South West and found it in Swanage which has everythng from fish and chips to deck chairs to Punch & Judy.
We couldn't have bettered the choice of B&B too with a A Great Escape which is run with boundless enthusiasm by Sue - a great character! We had the Room at the Top, a delightfully furnished room with all the stuff you could ask for - tea/coffee, flat-screen TV, hairdryer - plus a fridge with milk, water and chocolates waiting for us. Sue'e breakfasts are terrific as everything is fresh and superbly cooked.
Parking is on the road outside which worked OK for us but you might need to park around the corner - SatNav is accurate, or at least my 4 year-old Garmin was.
We really enjoyed Swanage and A Great Escape lived up to its name in all respects! A few minutes walk down to the town and sea front where there is a great choice of restaurants and pubs - we particlarly enjoyed The Ship for good food in pub surroundings with a sea view.

We ended up here inadvertently, after a mix up on booking which resulted in the other two of our party staying in another B&B a few hundred metres away.
However, this was a fortuitous error as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A Great Escape was only opened after refurbishment in June 2009 and everything still looks brand new. We stayed in room 1, which has a small mini-bar sized fridge, stocked with milk and water, and a balcony outside the room with a small table and two chairs. These two features combine to allow you to chill some white wine and enjoy a glass on the balcony, after a hectic day’s sightseeing, before strolling into Swanage for dinner. There is a general store/wine shop a short walk away with a good selection to choose from.

We reckon that there are three key elements to you enjoying a night’s stay anywhere: a comfortable bed; a powerful shower; a good breakfast. A Great Escape delivered on all three fronts. In particular, the fresh fruit salad was very welcome in the morning and we even abstained from the cooked breakfast on some days, demonstrating considerable will power as it was very good. In addition, Sue the owner and host, was very welcoming and keen to help out with any queries that you may have. The other staff were also friendly and attentive. We managed to park on the road outside each night, but anticipate you may have to hunt round if all the spaces are taken. We would definitely stay here again and have already been recommending it to friends.
